  • The ultrasonic non-destructive method was used for wood decay test. The temperature change and moisture contents of wood were estimated how the ultrasonic wave velocity changes. The relationship between weight loss of wood decayed by T. palustris and ultrasonic wave velocity was investigated. The non-destructive methods of different condition of logwood were estimated. Decay map of old wood was made by non destructive methods. Through these tests, we can accumulate the data to judge the degree of wood decay. The decay map of wood could be used for the analysis of old wood.

  • Neural networks we increasingly being seen as an addition to the statistics toolkit which should be considered alongside both classical and modern statistical methods. Neural networks are usually useful for classification and function estimation. In this paper we concentrate on function estimation using neural networks with weight decay factor The use of weight decay seems both to help the optimization process and to avoid overfitting. In this type of neural networks, the problem to decide the number of hidden nodes, weight decay parameter and iteration number of learning is very important. It is called the optimization of weight decay neural networks. In this paper we propose a automatic optimization based on genetic algorithms. Moreover, we compare the weight decay neural network automatically learned according to automatic optimization with ordinary neural network, projection pursuit regression and support vector machines.

  • This paper presents the results of the study of vertically natural frequency of tractor tires are effected by changing different ground contacts and inflation pressures using the Free Decay Method. The results show that the natural frequencies of the tire are not affected while the vertical acceleration increased strongly due to the increase of inflation pressure when the tire performs free decay vibration on rigid ground. In addition, the number of natural frequency peaks of the tire also increases with increasing tire inflation pressure. On the other hand, the natural frequencies of the tractor tire increases strongly while the vertical acceleration decreases slightly with the increase of tire inflation pressure as the tire performs free decay vibration on soft soil. Further, the natural frequencies of tire-soil system are always higher than that of tire only, and it changed with changing the soil depth. Results also show the natural frequency of tire and tire-soil system is in the range of 3.0 to 10.0 Hz that lie within the most critical natural frequency range of the human body. These findings have to be mentioned and used as design parameters of the tractor suspension system.

  • The parent and daughter nuclides in a radioactive decay chain arrive at secular equilibrium once they have a large half-life difference. The characteristics of this equilibrium state can be used to estimate the production time of nuclear materials. In this study, a mathematical model and algorithm that can be applied to radio-chronometry using the radioactive equilibrium relationship were investigated, reviewed, and implemented. A Bateman equation that can analyze the decay of radioactive materials over time was used for the mathematical model. To obtain a differential-based solution of the Bateman equation, an algebraic numerical solution approach and two different matrix exponential functions (Moral and Levy) were implemented. The obtained result was compared with those of commonly used algorithms, such as the Chebyshev rational approximation method and WISE Uranium. The experimental analysis confirmed the similarity of the results. However, the Moral method led to an increasing calculation uncertainty once there was a branching decay, so this aspect must be improved. The time period corresponding to the production of nuclear materials or nuclear activity can be estimated using the proposed algorithm when uranium or its daughter nuclides are included in the target materials for nuclear forensics.

  • The reversed two station method (RSTM) devised by Chun et al. (1987) is widely used to obtain $Q_{Lg}^{-1}$ for Lg wave data with hypocentral distance greater than 90 km. By applying RSTM to the Lg data of central South Korea with hypocentral distance between 95 and 381 km, we obtained high $Q_{Lg}^{-1}$. The value of $Q_{Lg}^{-1}$ is very similar with that of southeastern S. Korea, which is derived from the same method for similar distances. The studied hypocentral range seems to distort $Q_{Lg}^{-1}$ to high value because decay rate in this range is higher than 0.5, which is typical decay rate of surface wave.

  • In this paper, we studied the diagnostic method of insulation deterioration for 22.9kV CNCV cable using D.C potential decay component. At first, arbitrary D.C high voltage is appeied the CNCV cable for two minutes and switched off in vacuum. And then D.C potential decay components is measured for ten minutes. It is detecting source for cable insulation deterioration that its gradient is. Provisionally, we decided the criterion voltage and select the high voltage meter and S.W.

  • In order to understand long range wave propagation in railway tracks, it is required to identify how far vibrations can travel along a rail. To answer this question, the attenuation characteristics of the main propagating waves are required as a function of distance. In this work, it is identified which wave types predominantly propagate on various regions of the rail cross-section. Then decay rates of propagating waves in railway tracks are investigated for frequencies up to 80 kHz. A numerical method called the Wavenumber Finite Element (WFE) method is utilized to predict dispersion curves and decay rates for a rail on a continuous foundation. In order to validate the simulated results, measurements have been performed on a test track and an operational railway track. The measured results are compared with the output of the simulations and good agreements are found between them.

  • The objects of this paper are to formulated a model for the transport of a chain of radioactive waste products in a fractured porous medium, to devise an effective and efficient numerical method for approximating the solution of the model, and to demonstrated the convergence of the numerical method. The formulation begins from a model in an unfractured (single porosity) medium, passes through a double porosity model in a fractured medium, and ends with a modified single porosity model that takes the relevant time scales of the flow and the nuclear decay.

  • In this study, time-dependent concentration variations of VOCs from fixed furniture and Ondol floor widely used as finishing material of the floor were measured, and prediction equations were developed based on the measured results. VOCs were measured and analyzed based on EPA TO-17 and NIOSH 1500, 1501 method respectively, and GC/FID were used for the analysis of VOCs concentration. Measurements were carried out for 10 days after the installation of furniture and for 40 days after the installation of the floor in the residence constructed more than 10 years ago. In both case of floor and furniture installation, time-dependent concentration decay of VOCs can be properly converted into logarithmic scale. Especially in case of furniture, toluene showed the highest concentration and took longest time to decay. As a result of the prediction of VOCs concentration decay under different air change rate using estimated equations, concentration decay rate of indoor VOCs increased rapidly as the air change rate also increased.

  • Surface states of silicone polymer treated by plasma were investigated by the analysis by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and surface voltage decay. Plasma treatment causes the silica-like oxidative layer, which is confirmed with XPS, and lowers surface resistivity with increasing the plasma treatment time. Using the decay time constant of surface voltage, the calculated surface resistivity was compared with the value directly measured by a voltage-current method. A good agreement between two methods was obtained. In addition, we estimated the thermal activation energy for surface conduction, Based on our results, we could understand the relationship between surface chemical states and surface electrical properties.
