Korean funeral customs are an important part of the mourning process in Korea. A survey was conducted in the southern part by the Nak-dong river, centered around the city of Busan to examine Korean funeral rites. This study was conducted with survey research. The target population included 234 teachers and experienced the death of a family member within the last three years. Results showed that they presented their condolences 5 to 6 times on average per year. Funeral rites were performed usually at a hospital funeral hall. The preference of burial to cremation was about the same. According to the survey, funeral expenses averaged 9,570,000 won and donations received for funeral expenses, 12,630,000 won. Problems the respondents expressed about the process included large funeral expenses, the decision whether to bury or cremate, and fatigue from staying up all night. When classified according to the demographic characteristics, there were significant differences in the variables. Frequency of attending funerals depended on gender, age, and health status. Condolence style depended on religion. The type of funeral (burial or cremation) depended on family income. The type of reception depended on gender. Funeral expenses depended on the age Second, in the process of preparing for a family member's death, they thought it was important to prepare a funeral ceremony portrait of the deceased and a scroll by themselves, and the preparation
Purpose: This study was conducted to understand the meaning of the DNR experiences of nurses. Methods: The data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and field records with five nurses from November 2009 to February 2011. The data were analyzed using narrative inquiry methodology. Results: Three fundamental themes were derived from data analysis as following: 'faithfulness to care for comfort,' 'helping for peaceful farewells between the patient and the family,' 'reflecting one's lives with a collision of feeling toward the death.' Conclusion: The results indicate that nurses take a role of an advocate in caring for DNR patients and being concerned about their families' conflict and anguish. In addition, this study indicates the importance of education on living will, advanced directives and preparation for the death tailored to the public including healthcare professionals.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a web-based senescence preparation education program to promote successful aging. Methods: This program was developed based on Network-Based Instructional System Design (NBISD) model, using the following 5 processes: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The program was operated for 10 weeks from March 17 to May 25, 2008. Results: There were 4 menu bars, introduction, related data, lecture room, and communication on the main page. In the operation of this program, HTML, ASP, JAVA Script, Namo web editor, Edit Plus, Front Page and multimedia technology were applied. The program content consisted of understanding elderly people, physical health, activity & exercise, nutrition, medication use, psychological health, intellectual health, understanding death, welfare system and leisure activity. Conclusion: This program could be a useful means to provide senescence preparation information to middle-aged adults. Also, it is expected to offer individualized learning opportunities to many learners in various settings. Nurses should further develop and facilitate various learning strategies including web-based programs for elder care.
Acute toxicity of a combined preparation of the standardized extracts Scutellaria baicalensis GEORGI and Salvia miltiorrhiza BUNGE in a ratio of 3:1 was examined in male and female ICR mice. Mice were treated with the test substance intragastrically at a dose of 0 mg/kg, 5 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg or 2,000 mg/kg and observed for two weeks. No death or abnormal clinical sign was shown during the observation period. Also there were no difference in net body weight gain, organ weight, and gross pathological findings at the terminal sacrifice. The results suggested that acute oral toxicity of a combined preparation of the standardized extracts is very low at the conditions employed in this study.
Cardiac arrhythmia is irregular heart rate. It's one of the reason of unpredictable sudden death. Accurate diagnosis and management of cardiac arrhythmia are the most important factors for the life of patient. To obtain a good prognosis, Dentist should be know and manage the multi-types of cardiac arrhythmia during dental treatment with the cooperation of medical doctor majored in cardiac circulation medicine. We casually found the cardiac arrhythmia in mandible prognathism patient during preparation for orthognathic surgery. Orthognathic surgery for cardiac arrhythmia patient was done successfully under general anesthesia with the temporary cardiac pace-maker.

The purpose of this study is to examine whether there is a difference in the awareness of death based on happiness (since attitude or way of life differs among the general public, depending on the perception of death), and to investigate whether there is a difference in the interest in hospices between a group with a high happiness index and a group with a low happiness index. A survey was conducted on 200 men and women aged over 20 who participated in a walking event held in a metropolitan city on April 22, 2017. The survey consisted of eight demographic items: gender, age, education, occupation, marital status, family cohabitation, religion, and health status. It included 29 questions regarding happiness and nine questions regarding the perception of death. For the statistical tests, a chi-square test, an independent sample t-test, correlation analysis, and canonical correlation analysis were performed on the items of the survey based on a happiness index. The results of the study showed that, for a suitable place for death, medical institutions was the highest score (46.3%) for the group with a low happiness index, and own house was highest (59.4%) for the group with a high happiness index. This was a significant difference. It is thought that management systems should be supplemented by professional manpower, educating people so as to increase the utilization rates of home-based hospice as a way for patients to die in a comfortable and familiar place because, for Korea, death is much more common in hospitals. It is also necessary to increase the awareness of death and to make effective use of hospices through individual and various other approaches, considering the demographics of the subjects.

We should step forward from the cremation-centered funeral and consider the well-ending of the diseased from a welfare perspective. Therefore, it is necessary to re-highlight our funeral culture from a welfare perspective and to explore developmental policies in association with the well-ending of the deceased. This study aims to examine the changing history of funeral culture, to identify problems arising in the funeral culture of the Seoul Metropolitan City, and finally present policy and practice implications for funeral culture. We conducted the survey on awareness of funeral culture with recruiting 500 citizens in Seoul City. Well-ending culture is the process which secures human dignity until the last moment of the death and improves the quality of death culture. Systematic approach to well-ending culture will gain the objectives of qualitative improvement of the death. Therefore, the funeral culture paradigm should be shifted for the settlement of funeral culture applicable to aging society. Education for well-ending preparation will give a meaning of life for both the persons waiting for the death as well as the family members. We also should establish funeral facilities as culture welfare facilities where all the generations share.

This study was conducted to grasp senior education programs with the purpose of providing senior education services and researching program development of public libraries for elderly population of an aging society. Senior education programs provided by 33 Senior Welfare Centers and 41 public libraries in Seoul were compared in terms of, 6 subjects such as health, literacy/education, information education, death preparation education, hobbies and employment/volunteer. The Senior Welfare Center provided much more senior programs, whereas the public libraries appeared that the number of institutions participating in senior services was very few, and the program provision for elderly population appeared to be extremely insufficient. A specific course schedule of the program of 'making of a happiness map' of death preparation education, which is one theme among them, was developed.

The effect of alcohol and aqueous extracts of the leaves and stem of Pluchea lanceolata on the spontaneous movements of both the whole worm and the nerve muscle preparation of Setaria cervi, and on the survival of microfilariae in vitro was studied. Alcohol and aqueous extracts of the leaves and stem of P. lanceolata caused the inhibition of spontaneous movements of the whole worm and the nerve muscle preparation of S. cervi, characterized by short lasting small increase in tone and amplitude of contractions followed by paralysis. The concentrations required to inhibit the movements of whole worm and nerve muscle preparations for alcohol extract were 200 and $25\;{\mu}g/ml$, and for aqueous extract were 250 and $100\;{\mu}g/ml$, respectively, suggesting a cuticular permeability barrier. Both the extracts (alcohol and aqueous) caused death of microfilariae in vitro, $LC_{50}$ and $LC_{90}$ being 12 and 18 ng/ml for alcohol extract and 25 and 40 ng/ml for aqueous extract, respectively.
