  • In this paper, we propose an efficient adaptive write scheme that improves the performance of write operation in MLC STT-MRAM caches. The key idea of the proposed scheme is to perform the write operation fast if the target MLC STT-MRAM cells contain a dead block. Even if the fast write operation on the MLC STT-MRAM evicts a cache block from the MLC STT-MRAM cells, its performance impact is low if the evicted block is a dead block which is not used in the future. Through experimental evaluation with a memory simulator, we show that the proposed adaptive write scheme improves the performance of the MLC STT-MRAM caches by 17% on average.

  • Fire is a disaster of uncertainty, but since it is an artificial disaster essentially, this study is to emphasize that prevention and suppression of fire should be done more efficiently to develop the national love and trust of fire fighting. And it examines small neighboring living facilities which can be the typical dead ground of fire fighting based on researcher's experiences, intuition and related materials. The main course of the study defines the concept of fire fighting administration, dead ground and small neighboring living facilities. compares and analyzes fire fighting at small neighboring living facilities and the whole fire fighting cases and divides the causes of dead ground of fire fighting into preventive administration and suppressive administration sides. Those causes were resulted from discrepancies of political and social structures, but some of them can be improved depending on firemen's efforts. In addition, the means available for preventing the dead ground of fire fighting based on analyzed causes are suggested. Institutional approaches should be consulted with related agencies and legalized, but most managerial approaches can be introduced easily. Other means are approached for PR.

  • In this paper, optimal control of the fuel cell and design of a high-efficiency power converter is implemented to build a high-priced fuel cell system with minimum capacity. Conventional power converter devices use a non-isolated boost converter for high efficiency while the battery is charged, and reduce its conduction loss by using MOSFETs instead of diodes. However, the efficiency of the boost converter decreases, since overshoot occurs because there is a moment when the body diode of the MOSFET is conducted during the dead time and huge loss occurs when the dead time for the maximum-power-flowing state is used in the low-power-flowing state. The method proposed in this paper is to adjust the dead time of boost and rectifier switches by predicting the power flow to meet the maximum efficiency in every load condition. After analyzing parasite components, the stability and efficiency of the high-efficiency boost converter is improved by predictive compensation of the delay component of each part, and it is proven by simulation and experience. The variation in switching delay times of each switch of the full-bridge converter is compensated by falling time compensation, a control method of PWM, and it is also proven by simulation and experience.

  • Recently PWM inverters are widely utilized for many industrial applications e.g. high performance motor drive and PWM techniques are newly developed for an accurate output voltage. Among them space voltage vector PWM(SVPWM) inverter has high voltage ratio and low harmonics compared to the conventional sinusoidal PWM inverter. However output voltage of PWM inverter is distorted and has error duet o the conducting voltage drop of switching devices and the dead time that is inevitable to prevent the shoot-through phenomenon. This paper investigates 3-phase SVPWM inverter which has a new compensation method against dead time and voltage drop. Proposed algorithm calculates gate pulse periods which directly compensates the dead time and nonlinear voltage drop without modification of reference voltages. Direct compensation of gate pulse periods produces exact output voltage and does not need additional circuits. The propose algorithm is verified through the simulation and experiments.

  • In this paper we propose a controller design method, called Quasi-LQG/$H_{\infty}$/LTR for nonlinear servo systems with hard nonlinearities such as Coulomb friction, dead-zone. Introducing the RIDF method to model Coulomb friction and dead-zone, the statistically linearized system is built. Then, we consider $H_{\infty}$ performance constraint for the optimization of statistically linearized systems, by replacing a covariance Lyapunov equation into a modified Riccati equation of which solution leads to an upper bound of the LQG performance. As a result, the nonlinear correction term is included in coupled Riccati equation, which is generally very difficult to thave a numerical solution. To solve this problem, we use the modified loop shaping technique and show some analytic proofs on LTR condition. Finally, the Quasi-LQG/$H_{\infty}$/LTR controller for a nonlinear system is synthesized by inverse random input describing function techniques (ITIDF). It is shown that the proposed design method has a better performance robustness to the hard nonlinearity than LQG/$H_{\infty}$/LTR method via simulations and experiments for the timing-belt driving servo system that contains the Coulomb friction and dead-zone.

  • This paper deals with the application of a Generalized Predictive Control (CPC) to a Pressurized Water Reactor (P.W.R) Nuclear Power Plant. Generalized Predictive Control is a sort of Explicit Self-Tuning Control. Current self-tuning algorithms lack robustness to prior choices of either dead-time (input time delay of a plant) or model order. GPC is shown by simulation studies to be superior to accepted self-tuning techniques such as minimum variance and pole-placement from the viewpoint that it is robust to prior choices of dead-time or model order. In this paper a GPC controller is designed to control the P.W.R. nuclear power rlant with varying dead-time and through the designing procedure the designer is free from the constraint of knowing the exact dead-time. The controller is constructed based on the 2nd order linear model approximated in the vicinity of operating point. To ensure that this low-order model describes the complex real dynamics well enough for control purposes, model parameters are updated on-line with a Recursive Least Squares algorithm. Simulation results are successful and show the possibilities of the GPC control application to actual plants with varying or unknown dead-time.

  • Dead time which is inserted in PWM signals of VSI distorts the inverter output voltage waveforms and deteriorate the control performance of an induction machine by producing torque ripples. In this paper, dead time compensation method in a vector controlled induction machine is proposed. The method is based on a feedforward approach that compensates dead time effect by adding the compensating voltages to the inverter output voltage references in 2 phase stationary frame. The proposed method is only software intensive and easy to realize without additional hardware. The experimental results show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Although the mummies of Lee Myeong-Jung and his wife who were a member of the Moon family, were buried in similar sites in around 1560, the degree of decay of the dead bodies and antiquities between two people were quite different. This study was focused on the cause of-those differences in terms of engineering geology. Cranular soil found several metered depth around the study site has good drainage ability and such characteristic could be a factor of excellent conservation of dead body. From the physical characteristics of the lime-containing material that is considered to be a barrier from water and air, it was observed that the material around dead body of wife was more compact and denser than that of husband. Such results could be a clear evidence that the lime containing material around dead body of wife was excellent barrier for keeping away from water and air. To investigate those differences of physical characteristics and constituent materials between two lime-containing materials, minerals had to be identified from the two materials. It was revealed that lime-containing material around dead body of wife contains gypsum and more calcite, which could be the reason for better barrier preventing from water and air than those around husband.

  • In order to inspect the danger of forest fires, the thermal characteristics and the ignitability of the dead leaves and the living leaves for the main species of trees in Youngdong areas have been studied by the TG/DTA and the group flammability tester. From this work, the thermal delay has been increased with the increase of the heating rate. The fractions of the thermal weight loss for the dead leaves and the living leaves of the coniferous trees were higher than those of the broadleaf trees. Also, it was confirmed that the ignitable dangers of the dead leaves and the coniferous trees were higher than those of the living leaves and the broadleaf trees, due to the low auto ignition temperature and thermal resistance.

  • DEAD/DExH-box RNA helicases catalyze the folding and remodeling of RNA molecules in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, as well as in many viruses. They are characterized by the presence of the helicase domain with conserved motifs that are essential for ATP binding and hydrolysis, RNA interaction, and unwinding activities. Large families of DEAD/DExH-box proteins have been described in different organisms, and their role in all molecular processes involving RNA, from transcriptional regulation to mRNA decay, have been described. This review aims to summarize the current knowledge about DEAD/DExH-box proteins in selected protozoan and nematode parasites of medical importance worldwide, such as Plasmodium falciparum, Leishmania spp., Trypanosoma spp., Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica, and Brugia malayi. We discuss the functional characterization of several proteins in an attempt to understand better the molecular mechanisms involving RNA in these pathogens. The current data also highlight that DEAD/DExH-box RNA helicases might represent feasible drug targets due to their vital role in parasite growth and development.
