An open-end winding (OEW) permanent magnet synchronous motor with dual inverters can synthesize large voltages for a motor with the same DC link voltage. This ability has the advantage of reducing the use of DC/DC boost converters or high voltage batteries. However, zero-sequence voltage (ZSV), which is caused by the difference in the combined voltage between the primary and secondary inverters, can generate a zero-sequence current (ZSC) that increases system losses. Among the methods for eliminating this phenomenon, combining voltage vector eliminated ZSV cannot be accomplished by the conventional Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) method. In this study, a PWM carrier generation method using functionalization to generate a switching pattern to suppress ZSC is proposed and applied to analyze the control influence of the center-zero vector in the switching sequence about the current ripple.
This paper presents development of variable speed generation (VSG) system with energy saving function. The rubber tyred gantry crane (RTGC) requires the power from diesel-engine. Significant fuel savings by reducing the engine speed can be achieved, because all of operation modes except hoisting are required lower power than rated value of engine. When low speed operation output voltage of generator is decrease until acceptable range of motor driver inverters and auxiliary load supplier. According to power demand engine speed is varying from 20 to 60Hz, and voltage is varying between 210Vac and 480Vac. When idle mode or low power operation dc/dc converter operates by constant output voltage control and inverters dc site voltage is compensated by it. This paper proposed 3-phase interleaved boost converter which has the same structure as the commercially available 3-phase inverter and current sharing capability. 400kW interleaved converter is designed and a performance of converter is evaluated through several experiments with a RTGC system. Energy saving VSG system can cut down fuel consumption by 36% and 21.3% at idle and unidirectional load operations.

A maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system with fast-tracked time and high power efficiency is presented in this paper. The proposed MPPT system uses an unbounded binary search (UBS) algorithm that continuously tracks the maximum power point (MPP) with a binary system to follow the MPP under rapid-weather-change conditions. The proposed algorithm can decide the correct direction of the MPPT system while comparing the previous power point with the present power point. And then, by fixing the MPP until finding the next MPP, there is no oscillation of voltage MPP, which maximizes the overall power efficiency of the photovoltaic module. With these advantages, this proposed UBS is able to detect the MPP more effectively. This MPPT system is based on a boost converter with a micro-control unit to control analog-to-digital converters and pulse width modulation. Analysis of this work and experimental results show that the proposed UBS MPPT provides fast, accurate tracking with no oscillation in situations where weather rapidly changes and shadow is caused by all sorts of things. The tracking time is reduced by 87.3% and 66.1% under dynamic-state and steady-state operation, respectively, as compared with the conventional 7-bit perturb and observe technique.

This paper presents a new single phase front-end ac-dc bridgeless power factor correction (PFC) rectifier topology. The proposed converter achieves a high efficiency over a wide range of input and output voltages, a high power factor, low line current harmonics and both step up and step down voltage conversions. This topology is based on a non-inverting buck-boost (Zeta) converter. In this approach, the input diode bridge is removed and a maximum of one diode conducts in a complete switching period. This reduces the conduction losses and the thermal stresses on the switches when compare to existing PFC topologies. Inherent power factor correction is achieved by operating the converter in the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) which leads to a simplified control circuit. The characteristics of the proposed design, principles of operation, steady state operation analysis, and control structure are described in this paper. An experimental prototype has been built to demonstrate the feasibility of the new converter. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the improved power quality at the AC mains and the lower conduction losses of the converter.

Recently, as the demand of the environmental-friendly energy storage system such as an electric double-layer condenser increases, that of the bidirectional charger/discharger for the systems also increases. However, when charging/discharging mode-change occurs, the charger/discharger employing a bi-directional DC-DC converter with a commercialized analog controller has a complex circuit scheme, and a poor transient response. On the other hand, if a single digital controller is used for the bi-directional mode, the system performances can be improved by application of an advanced power-processing algorithm. In the paper, an environmental-friendly power storage systems including an Electric Double Layer Capacitor(EDLC) banks were developed with a bi-directional buck-boost converter and a digital signal processor (TMS320F28335). A simulation test-bed was realized and tested by MATLAB Simulink, and the hardware experiment was performed which shows that the dynamic response was improved such as the simulation results.
This paper reports on a single-inductor multiple-output step-up converter with digital control. A systematic analog-to-digital-controller design is explained. The number of digital blocks in the feedback path of the proposed converter has been decreased. The simpler digital pulse-width modulation (DPWM) architecture is then utilized to reduce the power consumption. This architecture has several advantages because counters and a complex digital design are not required. An initially designed unit-delay cell is adopted recursively for the construction of coarse, intermediate, and fine delay blocks. A digital limiter is then designed to allow only useful code for the DPWM. The input voltage is 1.8 V, whereas output voltages are 2 V and 2.2 V. A co-simulation was also conducted utilizing PowerSim and Matlab/Simulink, whereby the 55 nm process was employed in the experimental results to evaluate the performance of the architecture.

In this paper, we proposes the three-phase embedded Z-source inverter consisting of the three embedded Z-source converters and it's the output voltage control method. Each embedded Z-source converter can produce the bipolar output capacitor voltages according to duty ratio D such as single-phase PWM inverter. The output AC voltage of the proposed system is obtained as the difference in the output capacitor voltages of each converter, and the L-C output filter is not required. Because the output AC voltage can be stepped up and down, the boost DC converter in the conventional two-stage inverter is unnecessary. To confirm the validity of the proposed system, PSIM simulation and a DSP based experiment were performed under the condition of the input DC voltage 38V, load $100{\Omega}$, and switching frequency 30kHz. Each converter is connected by Y-connection for three-phase loads. In case that the output phase voltage is the same $38V_{peak}$ as the input DC voltage and is the 1.5 times($57V_{peak}$), the simulation and experimental results ; capacitor voltages, output phase voltages, output line voltages, inductor currents, and switch voltages were verified and discussed.
In most power electronic applications, the AC power input provided by the electronic utility needs to first converted to a DC voltage. Such conversion is accomplished by a diode rectifier due to its circuit simplicity and low cost. However, since diode rectifiers have some intrinsic problems such as low power factor and high harmonic distortion, a wide use of such rectifiers may cause noises, malfunction and heat damage in both electrical power systems and electrical machinery systems. This paper proposes soft switched three-phase single switch boost-type converter. The proposed circuit can perform Zero Voltage Switched(ZVS) without using any current and voltage sensors. For this circuit, both simulation and experiments have been performed. The results not only confirmed the ZVS but also indicated that, compared to the conventional hard switched converter, the prosed circuit can improve the efficiency as much as 1.7 to 4.7[%] while keeping the same high power factor and small harmonic distortion in their AC input.
In this paper, a wide input range active multi-pulse rectifier for utility interface of power electronic converters is proposed. The scheme combines multi-pulse method using a V-A transformer and boost rectifier modules. A current control scheme for the rectifier modules is proposed to achieve sinusoidal line currents in the utility input over a wide input range of input voltage and output load conditions. A design example is included for a 208V to 460V input, $700V_{dc}$ do 10kW output rectifier system. Simulation results are shown.
