  • Currently, in our society with a substantial and increasing fraction of the elderly population, transport safety for elderly drivers is becoming the center of attention. However, deficient data on vehicle crashes in South Korea limits the growth of traffic accident research pertaining to the country. So, we complemented South Korean vehicle crash data by examining USA vehicle crash data, especially the data of Ohio State, and analyzing the influential factors of elderly driver-involved crashes of the State. Subsequently, we suggested a way of improving the South Korean dataset. Notably, our study showed that the influential factors were vehicle speed, posted speed, and following other vehicles too close and provided them in the South Korean dataset.

  • Drivers need to process dynamic stimulus in real - time with full attention from Telematics environment. However, as the information technology revolution brings more and more data into vehicles, all of it competing for the drivers' attention, the development of automated assistance for driver information processing becomes increasingly import ant. There for e, drivers' workload is very essential factor for safety driving in Telematics environment. In this paper, we have discussed driver distraction caused by driver conversation while driving and proposed voice activity detection algorithm for measuring driver workload. Finally, we show how voice activity detection system works for measuring driver workload.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate problems of design, fitness, suitability for movement, and comfort in current Korean military tank driver's clothing through analysis of actual wearing condition by questionnaire and field evaluation and. to provide basic data for developing a improved design of Korean military tank driver's clothing. The survey was done for 477 military tank driver and the field evaluation was also done for evaluation. The overall satisfaction for design of military tank driver's clothing(3.25) was higher than that for the easiness in wearing and taking off(2.76). The military tank drivers evaluated that current coverall type of clothing is more suitable than two-piece type of clothing. The overall satisfaction for fitness of clothing was as a whole low(2.82~3.09), Especially, the satisfaction for fitness of from front and back rise length was the lowest one. In the satisfaction for clothing materials, the satisfaction for the breathability of material was the lowest, followed by clothing insulation and air permeability. The satisfaction for movement was low in bending waist and raising forward and aside. The part which surveyors think most dissatisfactory was also front and back rise length. The frequency in use of pocket was the highest in chest pocket, followed by waist and pants pockets. The satisfaction for opening easiness of hips opening part was very low(2.64).

  • The number and age of elderly drivers are continuously increasing according to the extension of the human lifespan. Therefore, in transportation, efforts are being made to differentiate and manage elderly drivers by age group. This study aims to identify the factors affecting the crash severity of early and late elderly drivers, compared to middle-aged drivers, and to identify the characteristics between these groups. Crash data that occurred on nationwide roads for the past 5 years (2017-2021) was applied. Unlike previous studies, this study only targeted drivers in their 40s and older, when presbyopia begins: middle-aged driver (40-64), early elderly driver (65-74), and late elderly driver (75+). As a result of logistic regression analysis, a total of 18 variables were found to affect serious injuries including fatalities in early and late elderly drivers. Most of these variables appeared to lead to severity more sensitively in the late elderly group. The results of this study are expected to be useful as basic information for establishing traffic safety policies for elderly drivers in the future.

  • In this paper, web based monitoring systems are implemented for multi-axis force control systems of an intelligence robot. A web based monitoring system is implemented by porting Linux at embeded systems which include Xscale processors. A divice driver is developed to receive data from multy-axis force sensors in Linux operation systems. To control this device driver, a soket program for web browser is also developped.

  • Experimental trials were conducted using computer simulation to investigate driver's cognitional process of signals at differential speed limit. The Korean railway safety law, as it stands, is not stated the driver requirement about cognitive abilities which are able to make a positive reaction at different types of speed. Therefore, some effective alternatives suggested in this study may be used as basic data for supporting the Korean railway safety law.

  • This paper presents design of a vehicle stop-and-go cruise control strategy based on analyzed results of the manual driving data. Human drivers driving characteristics have been investigated using vehicle driving data obtained from 100 participants on low speed urban traffic ways. The control algorithm has been designed to incorporate the driving characteristics of the human drivers and to achieve natural vehicle behavior of the controlled vehicle that would feel comfortable to the human driver under low speed stop-and-go driving conditions. Vehicle following characteristics of the cruise controlled vehicle have been investigated using a validated vehicle simulator and real driving radar sensor data.

  • This work proposes and characterizes switched-capacitor type cyclic digital-to-analog converter for display data driving. The proposed digital-to-analog converter composes simple structure, and can be implemented for low-power, small area display driver ICs. By circuit level simulations, it is verified that the op-amp input referred offset is attenuated at the DAC output and the circuit performance is robust at 0.5% of capacitor mismatch.

  • In this paper, we propose a method which implements warning to drivers through real-time analysis of risky and unexpected driver and vehicle behavior using only a smartphone without using data from digital tachograph and vehicle internal sensors. We performed the evaluation of our system that demonstrates the effectiveness and usefulness of our method for risky and unexpected driver and vehicle behavior using three information such as vehicle speed, azimuth and GPS data which are acquired from a smartphone sensors. We confirmed the results and developed the smartphone application for validate and conducted simulation using actual driving data. This novel functionality of the smartphone application enhances drivers' situational awareness, increasing safety and effectiveness of driving.
