Objectives : We conducted a literature search to identify trends with respect to miniscalpel acupuncture points (MAPs) of the cervical region with the aim of providing guidance regarding miniscalpel acupuncture (MA) in the cervical region. Methods : We searched 2 overseas sites (PubMed and Google Scholar) and 5 domestic sites (NDSL, RISS, KISS, OASIS and Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal) for clinical trials of MA of the cervical region. The search terms used were "acupotomy or miniscalpel acupuncture or miniscalpel" and "cervical." Of 73 studies found, 11 were included in this review, 6 of which presented exact MAPs. Owing to the lack of data, we refer to 1 Korean and 4 Chinese articles to analyze the exact location and meaning of the MAPs used in the published studies and to propose other clinically applicable MAPs. Results : We identified 10 of the most commonly used MAPs in the published studies, including those located below the external occipital protuberance, 2-2.5 cm both side down of the external occipital protuberance, 4.5-5 cm both side down of the external occipital protuberance and C3-7 spinous process. Furthermore, we proposed 13 additional MAPs that can be used clinically. Conclusion : We hope that this study will form a basis for the development of MA and hope to improve the safety and reproducibility in future MA studies of the cervical region.

Objectives: This study evaluated the odor emission characteristics from fundamental environmental facilities at an industrial complex area in Daegu City. Methods: The odor samples were collected from May 2015 to January 2016 and were analyzed for specified offensive odor substances. The odor quotient and the odor contribution was calculated. Results: Ammonia was detected in all samples monitoring specified odor compounds, followed by hydrogen sulfide and acetaldehyde. According to contribution analysis, hydrogen sulfide shows the highest contribution in all facilities. At wastewater treatment plants A and B and sewage treatment plant F, it was followed by acetaldehyde. At wastewater treatment plant C, it was followed by imethyl sulfide. Conclusion: The major component of odor can be determined by evaluating the degree of contribution to the odor intensity rather than the concentration of the individual odor components. To increase the effectiveness of odor reduction, policies focused on materials with a high odor contribution are needed rather than focusing on high-concentration odor compounds.

Objectives : This study was designed to estimate the effects of BU herbal acupuncture theraphy on low back pain of sprain patients by using Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and pressure algometer. Methods : 13 volunteers were applied to BU herbal acupuncture stimulation on the BL23, BL24, BL25 and BL26 acupoints. The degree of improvement of low back pain of sprain was evaluated by VAS and pain pressure threshold(at the points of BL23 and BL24 before treatment, before 3rd treatment(after herbal acupuncture). Results : In VAS scores, there were significant differences between before and after herbal acupuncture stimulation. But there was no significant difference between before and after herbal acupuncture stimulation in pain threshold. Conclusions : The effectiveness of BU herbal acupuncture theraphy on low back pain of sprain was shown through VAS and pressure algometer. These imply that BU herbal acupuncture theraphy may be useful for low back pain of sprain. Further study is needed about BU herbal acupuncture.

A 69 year-old female patient with Bronchiectasis was treated. She was suffering from cough, sputum, fever, sweating, chills and general weakness. Her symptoms were diagnosed as Pe-Ong(肺癰), and she was administered Wikyung-Tang(葦莖湯). After taking Wikyung-Tang(葦莖湯) her symptoms improved. Results suggest that Wikyung-Tang(葦莖湯) is an effective treatment fer Bronchiectasis. Though, results support a role for oriental medical treatment for lung disease, further research into the effectiveness of oriental medical treatments for various lung disease is needed.

There are few cases of partial trisomy of 9q, known as partial 9q trisomy syndrome with low birth weight, microcephaly, hypotelorism, beaked nose, small lip, long finger, hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, ventricular septal defect, and mental retardation. We report partial trisomy of 9q derived from a paternal chromosome, which has different features of other syndromes, including prematurity, atrial and ventricular septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus, persistent left superior vena cava, congenital hydronephrosis, and scrotal hernia.

This research was performed to investigate the effects of NEP (Nutritional Education Practice) program developed by KHyDDI (Korea Hypertension Diabetes Daegu Initiative) for hypertension and diabetes patients. The subjects were 116 patients (hypertension 70, diabetes 46) who had completed basic education program at the education information center and four-session program was implemented for them. Nutrient intake was analyzed and compared before and after the program by 24-hr recall method and evaluate weight, waist circumference, body fat, blood pressure and eating habits in terms of nutrition knowledge, eating behavior, salty taste assessment. The improved results after the program were observed in weight, waist circumference, body fat ratio, blood pressure, slightly salty taste in salty taste assessment, nutrition knowledge, eating behavior, sodium, energy, carbohydrate and protein intake ratio to total energy (p < 0.001). Therefore, this program is effective in the improvement of weight, waist circumference and eating behavior, and the continued management would lead to the prevention of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases in the community.

Cryopreservation is used for blastocyst preservation of most mammalian embryos and is an important technique for breeding. We aimed to compare the efficiency of the cryopreservation method using the standard Cryotop device and the ReproCarrier device, a domestic product manufactured in Korea. The efficacy of the two devices was analyzed based on the survival rate, intracellular levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and apoptosis of the vitrified bovine blastocysts. The survival rates of the vitrified-warmed blastocysts were similar between the ReproCarrier group (58.4 ± 17.7%) and Cryotop group (59.9 ± 14.1%). Intracellular ROS levels and apoptotic index were determined by DCFDA staining and TUNEL assay. Changes in intracellular ROS levels, number of total nuclei, and cellular apoptosis of vitrified blastocysts after cryopreservation were not significantly different between the two groups. These results indicate that the ReproCarrier device method is as effective as the standard Cryotop method for vitrification of bovine blastocysts in vitro.

Applying the construct of country image this study examined city image for Daegu in Korea. Study 1 measured the city image for Daegu and Seoul, identified the city image dimensions, and compared the images of the two cities. Study 2 confirmed the city image dimensions and examined the Daegu image by residency and demographic characteristics of respondents in Daegu and Seoul regions. The study extracted 4 dimensions of city image including economy, people, conservatism, and development capability. High conservatism and low economic prosper represented the image of Daegu while the opposite did of Seoul. Regardless of residency, single and Young respondents with high income and education had negative images for Daegu, and residents in Daegu rather than in Seoul had more negative images.
