  • In this paper, a watt-level 2.4-GHz RFCMOS linear power amplifier (PA) with pre-distortion method using variable capacitance with respect to input power is demonstrated. The proposed structure is composed of a power detector and a MOS capacitor to improve the linearity of the PA. The pre-distortion based linearizer is embedded in the two-stage PA to compensate for the gain compression in the amplifier stages, it also improves the output P1dB by approximately 1 dB. The simulation results demonstrate a 1-dB gain compression power of 30.81 dBm at 2.4-GHz, and PAE is 29.24 % at the output P1dB point.

  • This paper describes the design and fabrication of an MMIC variable gain LNA for 5GHz wireless LAN applications, using 0.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ gate length GaAs MESFET transistors. The advantages of high gain and low noise performance of E-MESFETS and excellent linear performance of D-MESFETS are combined as a cascode topology in this design. Behavioral model equations are derived from the MESFET nonlinear current voltage characteristics by using Turlington's asymptote method in a cascode configuration. Using the behavioral model equations, a 4${\times}$50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ E-MESFET as a common source amplifier and a 2${\times}$50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ D-MESFET as a common gate amplifier are determined for the cascode amplifier. The fabricated variable gain LNA shows a noise figure of 2.4dB, variable gain range of more than 17dB, IIP3 of -4.8dBm at 4.9GHz, and power consumption of 12.8mW.

  • A linear power amplifier is particularly emphasized on the CDMA system using a linear modulation scheme, because IMD which cause adjacent channel interference and co channel Interference is mostly generated in a nonlinear power amplifier. In this paper, a new type of linearization technique proposed. It is presented that balanced MESFET predistortion linearizer added. Experimental result are present for Korea PCS frequency band. The implemented linearizer is applied to a 30dBm class. A power amplifier for simulation performance. Two-tone signals at 1850 MHz and 1851.23 MHz are injected into the main power amplifier. The main power amplifier with a 12.1dB gain and a P1dB of 30 dBm(two-tone) was utlized. The reduction of IMD is around 22dB.

  • In this paper. We tested and fabricated the error amplifier for the 15 Watt linear power amplifier for the IMT-2000 baseband station. The error amplifier was comprised of subtractor for detecting intermodulation distortion, variable attenuator for control amplitude, variable phase shifter for control phase, low power amplifier and high power amplifier. This component was designed on the RO4350 substrate and integrated the aluminum case with active biasing circuit. For suppression of spurious, the through capacitance was used. The characteristics of error amplifier measured up to 45 dB gain, $\pm$0.66 dB gain flatness and -15 dB input return loss. Results of application to the 15 Watt feedforward Linear Power Amplifier, the error amplifier improved with 27 dB cancellation from 34 dBc to 61 dBc IM$_3$.

  • The design and fabrication of Q-band 3-stage monolithic microwave integrated circuit(MMIC) driver and power amplifiers for WLAN are presented using 0.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ AlGaAs/InGaAs/GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor(PHEMT). In each stage of the MMIC DA, a negative feedback is used for both broadband and good stability. The MMIC PA has employed a balanced configuration to overcome these difficulties and achieve high power with low VSWR over a wide frequency range. In the MMIC DA, the measurement results arc achieved as an input return loss under -4dB, an output return loss under -l0dB, a gain of 14dB, and a PldB of 17dB at C-band(36~ 44GHz). The chip size is 28mm$\times$1.3mm. The developed MMIC PA has the l0dB linear gain over 360Hz to 420Hz band and 22dBm PldB performance at 400Hz. The size of fabricated MMIC PA is 4mm x3mm. These results closely match with design results. This MMIC DA Sl PA will be used as the unit cells to develop millimeter-wave transmitters for use in wideband wireless LAN systems.

  • A 6-Gbps single-ended receiver with a linear equalizer and a self-reference generator is proposed for a high-speed interface with the double data rate. The proposed single-ended receiver uses a common gate amplifier to increase a voltage gain for an input signal with low voltage level. The continuous-time linear equalizer which reduces gain to the low frequencies and achieves high-frequency peaking gain is implemented in the common gate amplifier. Furthermore, a self-reference generator, which is controlled with the resolution 2.1 mV using digital averaging method, is implemented to maximize the voltage margin by removing the offset noise of the common gate amplifier. The proposed single-ended receiver is designed using a 65-nm CMOS process with 1.2-V supply and consumes the power of 15 mW at the data rate of 6 Gbps. The peaking gain in the frequency of 3 GHz of the designed equalizer is more than 5 dB compared to that in the low frequency.

  • This paper proposes a theoretical analysis of hidden device detection and a design of multiband circular polarization patch array antenna for non-linear junction detector system application. A good axial ratio of circular polarization patch antenna is realized by a new approach that employs inclined slots, two rectangular grooves and a truncated ground for the conventional antenna. A good axial ratio of the 1.5 dB lower is measured by having an asymmetric gap distance between the ground planes of the coplanar waveguide feeding structure. The common ground plane of the linear array has an optimum trapezoidal slot array to reduce the mutual coupling without increasing the distance between the radiators. The higher gain of about 1 dBi is realized by using the novel common ground structure. The measured return loss, gain, and axial ratio of the proposed single radiator, as well as the proposed array antennas, showed a good agreement with the simulated results.
