  • There is currently a growing need to nurture creative and convergent talent in the face of the fourth Industrial Revolution. Developing such talent requires interdisciplinary convergent education across the science, engineering, humanities, social studies, and arts disciplines. Such interdisciplinary convergence could cultivate humanities and social knowledge and qualities along with scientific expertise. In Korea, there are currently six science schools for the gifted that aim to discover and nurture science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) researchers from an early stage, and two science and art schools for the gifted that aim to cultivate new talent combining students' scientific and artistic qualities. These schools establish and follow curriculums that are suited to achieving the education objectives guaranteed by the Gifted Education Promotion Act and its Enforcement Decrees. This study compares the curriculums and curriculum tables of the science schools for the gifted to those of the science and art schools for the gifted to evaluate their methods of operation and performance. Additionally, it determines which curriculums provide an opportunity for students to nurture convergent thinking, and discusses how suitable curriculums could be implemented to develop convergent thinking.

  • Purpose: This study was to investigate the attitudes of elementary school students on health curriculum. Methods: Based on the literary considerations and advanced research, a survey was conducted on Osgood's semantic differential scales on 329 fifth and sixth grade students in 6 elementary schools located in U metropolitan city regarding the attitudes towards health curriculum. Data were analyzed using t-test and multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: The overall attitude average grade was 3.46 in 26 factors, slightly exceeding the standard (3 points) which showed that students had a positive attitude towards health curriculums and thought health curriculums were valuable, necessary, and important classes. For each grade, the fifth grade believed health curriculums were more interesting, new, easy, necessary and valuable classes than compared to the sixth grade, and there were no differences between gender. The variables which affected attitudes in health curriculums included good feelings for health teacher, subject health status, and satisfaction in using the school health room. Conclusion: Because the better they think of health teacher, the higher the positive attitude towards health curriculums, a strategy which can build trust between student meetings not only during class time but also through operating a school health room will be necessary.

  • Twenty years have passed since the first game department was established in Korea. We now need to review and foresee the future of game department curriculums. In this paper, we characterize and analyze the current curriculums of game departments in Korean colleges. The study focuses on the detailed course works based on the game making processes, which are largely composed of game design, game programming and game graphic design. Then we analyze the past curriculum changes of the game programming and the game graphic design departments. Also, we survey the curriculums of cinema departments which are older than game departments, thus may show the hint for the future of game departments. As the results of the analysis, the curriculums of game departments have to strengthen the game design related courses and have to expand the game making exercise courses.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to make a comparative analysis of the curriculum segment of the dental hygiene education accrediting criteria, one of the six segments of the criteria, and the curriculums of 26 colleges in a bid to provide information on the modification or improvement of the curriculums. Method : The curriculums of 18 three-year-course colleges and eight four-year-course universities were selected, and the courses offered by 10 colleges or more were categorized into three different fields to tabulate the courses: primary education, prevention / education, and clinical dental hygiene. After the courses were analyzed, some of them that were possible to integrate in view of dental hygienist duties were presented in this study as inclusive courses. Results : There was connection among the degree courses of the three-year-course curriculums in the field of primary education. The curriculums failed to keep up with the worldwide globalization trend. 90 credits or more were allocated to major subjects, which satisfied one of the mandatory requirements of the accrediting criteria, and two colleges provided theoretical and practical courses in the ratio of 50:50. A wide variety of personality-education and teaching-profession courses were offered according to each college's circumstances. None of the colleges was equipped with an inclusive curriculum, and there was a tendency for the three-year-course colleges to offer segmented subjects in accordance with the national examination. The courses in the field of prevention and education that are bound up with the job performance of dental hygienists should be integrated into dental hygiene and practice, and the courses in the clinical dental hygiene field should be incorporated into an inclusive course of 치과임상학. The integration of the courses will make it possible to ensure the successful articulation of the different school systems and to stay abreast with the globalization trend. Even just inclusive courses should give more weight to practice than theory to bolster the job performance of dental hygienists, and an inclusive curriculum should be prepared for students to receive activity-centered hands-on education in different semesters.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the measures to improve the curriculums of the specialized vocational high schools aided by Small and Medium Business Administration through estimating whether they have satisfied the purpose of the aids and analyzing the related factors. Among specialized vocational high schools aided by Small and Medium Business Administration, 49 technical high schools which comprised the largest proportion were chosen as subjects for this study. Among the 49 subjects, 57.1%(28 schools) are reported to be suitable, 36.7%(18 schools) so-so, and 6.2%(3 schools) unsuitable for the curriculums. The curriculums of specialized vocational high schools aided by Small and Medium Business Administration were mostly associated with the local strategic business. However, many of them implemented the pre-existed curriculums because they didn't reflect the job analysis of the business properly. To establish more effective curriculums of the specialized vocational high schools aided by Small and Medium Business Administration, most of all, guides for them should be prepared in its level. Also, midium and long-term development plans of school departments should be made to reorganize the current departments which hinder the specialization in curriculums by government or offices of education. Finally, a conference of government departments on the curriculum establishment should be organized.

  • This study was attempted to analyze the current status of curriculums programs in the pet-related departments in the fifteen colleges in Korea which have operated the relevant courses of major practice since they were newly established in 2003 or later. Thus, this study aimed to suggest how to develop the curriculums for pet-related departments so that the study had the goal of creating the common gold standards between the Korean cultural industry of companion animal and the relevant curriculums. Based upon the results listed above, it is considered that pet-related curriculums should be developed and operated as follows: First, the curriculums preferred highly by both undergraduates and employees should be selected and operated. Second, liberal arts courses concerning companion animal culture required to cultivate cultural comprehension for basic abilities should be opened. Third, major courses concerning animal-assisted therapy (AAT) together with the existing major practice courses should be established so that undergraduates can grow into professionals. Fourth, to do so, appropriate machines and instruments for major practice laboratories should be introduced and maintained. fifth, some pet-related departments substituting major theory courses for major practice courses should improve their organizations. Sixth, standardized curriculums fur pet-related departments and an evaluating institute fur them should be arranged and founded. Finally, the college management should invest constantly in the suitable major practice laboratories and their facilities for companion animal industry as well as curriculum operations.

  • By 'National GIS Plan', various strategies and programs have been carried out for the professional training in the fields of geospatial information. The e-learning can make it possible to develop and manage the adaptable curriculums, to maximize the effect of the practical exercises, and to establish the cooperative systems with the industries. In this study, curriculums of the geospatial fields were developed and suggested for the cyber universities. These curriculums were divided into three stages, fundamentals, applications, and advances, and into three tracks, system development and construction, mapping and geospatial data construction, and practice and application, based on the current demands in geospatial industries. Owing to be the modularized structure, proposed curriculums would be easily adapted and updated to the change of the new demands.
