Redundant Operation of a Parallel AC to DC Converter via a Serial Communication Bus

  • The redundant operation of a parallel AC to DC converter via a serial communication bus is presented. The proposed system consists of three isolated CUK power factor correction modules. The controller for each converter is a dsPIC30F6010 microcontroller while a RS485 communication bus and the clock signal are used for synchronizing the data communication. The control strategy of the redundant operation relies on the communication of information among each of the modules, which communicate via a RS485 serial bus. This information is received from the communication checks of the converter module connected to the system to share the load current. Performance evaluations were conducted through experimentation on a three-module parallel-connected prototype, with a 578W load and a -48V dc output voltage. The proposed system has achieved the following: the current sharing is quite good, both the transient response and the steady state. The converter modules can perform the current sharing immediately, when a fault is found in another converter module. In addition, the transient response occurs in the system, and the output voltages are at their minimum overshoot and undershoot. Finally, the proposed system has a relatively simple implementation for the redundant operation.

LED Driver ICs칩의 소형화를 위한 Chip on Chip 기술에 관한 연구 (Study on Chip on Chip Technology for Minimizing LED Driver ICs)

  • This research was analyzed thermal characteristics that was appointed disadvantage when smart LED driver ICs was packaged and we applied extracted thermal characteristics for optimal layout design. We confirmed reliability of smart LED driver ICs package without additional heat sink. If the package is not heat sink, we are possible to minimize package. For extracting thermal loss due to overshoot current, we increased driver current by two and three times. As a result of experiment, we obtained 22 mW and 49.5 mW thermal loss. And we obtained optimal data of 350 mA driver current. It is important to distance between power MOSFET and driver ICs. If thhe distance was increased, the temperature of package was decreased. And so we obtained optimal data of 3.7 mm distance between power MOSFET and driver ICs. Finally, we fabricated real package and we analyzed the electrical characteristics. We obtained constant 35 V output voltage and 80% efficiency.

입제 비료 변량 살포 제어시스템의 분석 및 설계 (Design and Analysis of a Control System for Variable-Rate Application of Granular Fertilizers)

  • This study was conducted to improve the control performance of a current variable-rate controller for granular fertilizers. Simulation model was developed. Optimized proportional, integral and derivative gains were determined by simulation model using 2nd order PID gain learning algorithm, and these control gains were evaluated through the field tests. Important results of this study are as follows; 1. Principles of pre-existing variable-rate application of granular fertilizers were investigated. 2. Simulation model of a PID controller that could simulate the control system was developed by using Matlab/Simulink program. The program was to determine PID control coefficients through the simulation model and 2nd order PID gain learning algorithm. 3. PID control coefficients obtained from the simulation were applied to the developed model. When the step input was given, Maximum overshoot were 1.96%, rise time were 0.05 sec, settling time were 0.06 sec and steady state error were 0.21 % respectively. 4. The simulation model was verified through field tests. The errors of maximum overshoot were 10%, rise time were 0.11 sec, settling time were 0.40 sec and steady state error were 8% because of loads and noises. Rise time was decreased to one third of that of the pre-existing system. 5. If the speed of a fertilizing machine is $0.3{\sim}0.6\;m/s$ and the maximum rotation speed of a discharging roller is 64 rpm, rise time would be 0.26 sec and fertilizing machine would cover the distance of $0.07{\sim}0.15\;m$ with settling time of 0.4 sec, fertilizing machine would cover the distance of $0.12{\sim}0.24\;m$.

  • 대용량 전원장치의 정류기는 입력전류의 고조파를 줄이기 위해, 입력 전류 제어기능을 갖는 3상 PWM 정류기의 적용이 확대되고 있다. 3상 PWM 정류기의 전압제어기는 일반적으로 PI 제어기가 사용되며, 출력 전압의 안정성을 얻고 신뢰성을 확보하기 위하여 전압 제어기는 출력전압의 과도상태에서 오버슈트(Overshoot)를 작게 설계한다. 그러나 부하 변동이 급격한 대용량 통신용 전원 장치에 3상 PWM 정류기가 적용될 경우 빠른 부하 변동에 대한 안정적 전압 응답을 얻기 위하여 보다 넓은 대역폭을 갖도록 전압 제어기를 설계할 필요가 있다. 넓은 대역폭을 갖는 PI 제어기는 과도한 출력전압의 오버슈트가 발생될 수 있으며, 이 과도한 출력전압 오버슈트는 통신용 전원의 안정성을 해칠 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 과도 상태에서 출력전압의 오버슈트를 작게 하기 위하여 IP 제어기를 갖는 3상 PWM 정류기의 전압 제어기를 제안한다. 제안된 전압 제어기는 3상 PWM 정류기의 기동 시와 부하 변동시의 과도 응답특성을 개선될 수 있음을 시뮬레이션 및 실험을 통해 확인하였다.

  • The Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor has the characteristics of MOSFET and BJT. The characteristics of proposed device exhibit high speed switching, the voltage controlled property, and the low ON resistance. This hybrid device has been used and developed continuously in the power electronic engineering field. We can simulate many IGBT circuits, such as the motor drive circuit, the switching circuits etc, with PSpice. However, some problems in PSpice is that the IGBT is old-fashioned and is very difficult to get it. In this paper, the IGBT in PSpice is considered as the basic structure. We changed the valuse of base width, gate-drain overlaping area, device area, and doping concentration, then calculated MOS transconductance, ambipolar recombination lifetime etc. Using this resultant parameter, we could predict the transient response characteristicsof IGBT, for examplex, voltage overshoot, the rising curve of voltage, and the falling curve of current.

  • This paper is on speed control of induction motor using space vector PWM. Indirect vector control which controls independantly flux and torque current component in order to drive induction motor, is applied for driving motor. Voltage sourced inverter with space vector PWM is used to generate the practically perfect sinusoidal flux density in induction motor. The appropriateness of speed control is proven by appling IP(Integral-proportional) controller which is known to have a good speed response and still to have less overshoot than the now used PI(Proportional-Integral) controller.

  • This paper presents a study on fuzzy speed and flux controller used in a vector control of a CRPWM(Current Ragulated PWM) induction motor drive. In this paper, an approach for an easier design of the fuzzy controller is presented in order to obtain the desired value for the response time with minimal overshoot and to improve the steady state performance for speed step commands. The fuzzy controller is constructed only upon the knowledge of the motor behaviour and the desired speed response, and provides fast and robust control by reducing the effects of nonlinearities, parameter changes and load disturbance. The results of applying the fuzzy logic controller to an IM drive system are compared with those obtained by application of a conventional PI controller. The fuzzy controller provided a better response than the PI controller.

  • In this paper, A last time delay damper is presented for HB ( HyBrid ) step motor, which has large oscillation characteristics.The design objective is to develop a cost-effective and good-performance damper that would be applyed to HB step motor / driver system without the addition of transducer that would add a weight, size and cost to the system. The Back EMF signal which is recovered from current and voltage signal is used for the measuring the rotor position. It would be possible to get more accurate delay time for the motor driver system. It is proved that the maximum overshoot can be reduced to 13% at stopping through experiment.

  • In this paper, we developed the dynamic model of a fuel cell system suitable for controller design and system operation. The transient phenomena captured in the model include the flow characteristics and inertia dynamics of the compressor, the intake manifold filling dynamics, oxygen partial pressures and membrane humidity on the fuel cell voltage. In the simulations, we paid attention to the transient behavior of stack voltage and compressor pressure, stoichiometric ratio. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the model capability. For load current following, stack voltage dynamic characteristics are plotted to understand the Electro-chemistry involved with the fuel cell system. Compressor pressure and stoichiometric ratio are strongly coupled, and independent parameters may interfere with each other, dynamic response, undershoot and overshoot.

  • This paper presents auto-tuning to compensate the integrator windup of the current and the speed PID controller of DC motor, which suppress the overshoot of transient response without delay of rising time. The simulation results using Matlab show the validity of auto-tuning methods.
