An investigation on the changing process of policy in Japan has a great significance, we think. This study compared and analyzed the reason of promoting multi-cultural policies, changes of the related laws and institutions and the policies between Korea and Japan, investigated characteristics and differences between them, deduced implications and presented a new theory for multi-cultural policy appropriate for Korean conditions. In order to establish a new multi-cultural policy in Korea, firstly, acceptance of diversity and mutual recognition, secondly, establishment of policy direction through social consultation and thirdly, establishment of multi-cultural regulations followed by reestablishment of economical and political regulations should be required.

  • It has been proved that pollutants stuck on the surface of stone architecture have significant direct and indirect harmful effects on them. Among them some do not look evidently harmful, but they have potentials to ruin stone architecture as time goes on. Since the cultural assets have magnificent meanings as historical aspects, their future states should be considered seriously as well as that of the presence. The past method to get rid of the pollutants from the surface of cultural properties has been changed a lot till the present along with scientific development of technology on this field. Existing method to eliminating pollutants are based on physical and chemical processing, which can make damages on them too. Recently cleansing using LASER has been developed in Europe and proved as effective and relatively less harmful to remove pollutants, and it has been adopted widely. After the success of the way by LASER, there are several trials to adopt the way to our cultural properties which have similar materials. Those showed satisfactory results and studies for developing the securer and more dependable ways to apply. From now on the report will show the effective ways to apply the method using LASER on to the similar materials and different materials as well and discuss about the pros and cons about the method.

  • The maintenance works for brick-structured buildings are a new field in Korea, and practical cases are yet inadequate so that such works may cause adverse effects of damaging the buildings after all. Therefore, this study has extracted a preservation technology believed to be most desirable in minimizing the damage to the original state of the buildings and preserving the value as the cultural assets through maintenance work details from 1986 to 2010 regarding brick-structured buildings designated as cultural properties. Firstly, a brick replacement method of using the brick used at the time of construction is efficient in replacement and repair of brick material for preserving value of cultural assets and minimizing damage of the original form. Secondly, use of lime mortar through material analysis is effective in repair of masonry joint and mortar but it is not used often due to high experimental cost. Finally, reinforcement of structure using a form for a building with severe damage is most efficient when considering additional problems. However, damage on the original form of a building can be minimized and value of a building can be preserved only when consideration on sufficient case analysis, materials to be used, and conditions of a building is supported.

  • This study was conducted to identify wood species from main pillars of Daeungjeon Hall, the main building of Jeonghyesa Temple located in Suncheon, Jeollanamdo Province in Korea. It was known that this temple had been built in the $8^{th}$ century by Hyeso, a national master in the Unified Silla period, and was designated as Treasure No. 804 in 1984 due to its historic and academic values. The results of wood species identification showed that main pillars from Daeungjeon Hall of the Jeonghyesa Temple were made of hard pine, Korean fir (Abies spp.) and Zelkova tree (Zelkova spp.). In addition to the wood species identification, floor plan documentation was also done to help identify what wood species had been used for main pillars. These results could be applied and utilized for the conservation and restoration of Daeungjeon Hall in future. This study may help with the authenticity of conservation works.

  • Many efforts to understand the deterioration processes of the beeswax-treated volume of "The Annals of Joseon Dynasty" have been made. However, most previous studies have focused on individual sample sheet of the beeswax-treated paper but not book volume format. In this study, humid cycling accelerated aging for duplicated beeswax-treated book volume and Hanji book volume were carried out to examine differences in the deterioration of different parts of each volume as well as between the two book volumes during the aging. As results, it is found that the deterioration rate for the beeswax-treated volume is higher than that for the Hanji book volume. Different parts in each volume show different magnitude of deterioration. In particular, outer sides in both beeswax-treated and Hanji book volumes, which are directly exposed to the air, are deteriorated more seriously than inner sides. It is also observed that inner sides are considerably deteriorated during the aging, implying that inner deterioration may have different mechanisms from outer deterioration.

  • The cultural condition of Pseudomonas mendocina for polysaccharide production was examined. The optimal medium contains following composition per liter of distilled water: Sucrose 23.75g, $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ 1.57g, Yeast extract 0.5g, $KH_2PO_4\;2.9g,\;MgSO_4.\;7H_2O\;1.0g,\;CaCO_3$ 2.5g. The optimum temperature and pH were $30^{\circ}C$ and 6.5. At the condition. Ps mendocina produced 5.98g/l of polysaccharide. The culture viscosity after 3 days was 191mPa.s at $70sec^{-1}$. The product yield $(Y_{p/s})$ and specific productivity $(Q_p)$ were 25.18% and 32.83mg/g-cell/h.

  • Common issues in research and policy on cultural heritage can be extracted among Eurasian countries although countries in the region show different colors of policies and studies. Among them one thing peculiar to Central Asian countries is that in general they do not have well delineated laws and regulations on the protection of cultural heritage. It may be because they had no enough time and experience to legislate and implement relevant laws and regulations ever since they got independence. Research on cultural heritage in Central Asian countries is often made in cooperation with foreign institutions. As shown in archaeological excavation projects in Central Asian countries, cooperative projects exceed noncooperative ones in terms of size and longevity. UNESCO, through its projects on the Serial and Transboundary World Heritage Nomination of the Silk Roads in Central Asia, also supports countries in Central Asia and others along the Silk Road in order to facilitate inclusion of their cultural heritages in the Tentative List of the World Heritage. With regard to activities on the protection of cultural heritage, while respective countries in Central Asia have made good efforts, they could not produce effective outcomes due to short of budget and specialized manpower. They have rich resources of cultural and documentary heritage but their registered heritages on the UNESCO's World Heritage List and Memory of the World are under-represented because of short of technology and experience among other things. A new trend in cultural heritage studies that combined cultural heritage with tourism has merged in recent years. While some critics have raised some negative questions, this new fashion became popular and will continue with the support of governments of Silk Road countries. In conclusion, Korean institutions are further encouraged to organize cooperative networks for research and policy with respective Eurasian countries.

  • In this research, for the smooth cultural life of seniors, we recruit 92 smart seniors (male: 22, female: 70) and survey their preferred content sub-genre. The survey is mainly based on the two devices (PC, Smartphone) to be used. As a result of the study, there was a little difference in preference on the web pages between both devices, the video contents showed the similar preference, regardless of the device. Also, sub-genres surveyed show higher correlations with similar sub-genres in other content genres. So, If the result of this study is reflected in the development of cultural contents and the composition of content pages, it will be helpful for senior to enjoy the improved cultural life by lowering entry barriers accessing digital media contents.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning of cultural practices of videogame audience with 'mod'. Videogame audience members are recognized as very active and interactive beings compared with other interpretive media audience members. Especially mod is one of the most dramatic cultural situation of videogame. It's very prominent properties are 'activity' and 'interactivity'. Videogame audience members, so called 'gamers' modify videogame software as their own sake and use it as their own intention. Modifying and playing with videogame, or 'modding' is very strong cultural program of gamer. Mod is one of avant-garde technology but its practice is not always radical. I observed practices of the members of Naver cafe 'Elderscroll' playing . They used mods of for their phallocentric desire. And they construct a hierarchical and top-dowon membership. So advanced technology and cultural media and text from it does not assure the same advanced contents.
