Effect of Transplant and Harvest Time on Grain Quality of Rice in Reclaimed Paddy Field (간척지에서 이앙기 및 수확시기가 쌀의 품질 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The yield and quality characteristics of three rice varieties(Seojinbyeo, Ilpumbyeo, and Chuchungbyeo) in reclaimed saline paddy field were investigated under different cultural practices, three transplanting times (May 15, May 30 and June 15) and four harvest times (40, 50, 60 and 70days after heading) in order to obtain basic information for the production of high quality rice. Brown rice yield of three rice varieties were significantly higher in early and medium than late season cultivation. The protein content of milled rice showed high interaction effect between transplanting time and harvest time. Palatability values of Seojinbyeo and Ilpumbyeo were significantly higher in late than medium season cultivation, but Chucheongbyeo did not show any difference in its palatability value by different transplanting time. The palatability values of three rice variety was the highest in the harvest at 40 days after heading. The grain yield of three rice varieties were higher in early and medium than late season cultivation, whereas palatability values of three rice varieties were significantly higher in the early and late season cultivation than medium season cultivation. The palatability value measured by rice taster showed a highly negative correlation(r=$0.43^{**}$) with cumulative air temperature during ripening period.

  • The above results indicate that vegetable crop production using vinyl houses continously increases. However, technical support and facility improvement are still insufficent to establish a full production system. In order to improve the cultural environment in facilities for better vegetable culture, several facters should be considered. 1. Facility design and arrangement should be made to improve micro-environments for crop growth and development because direction of facility and covering materials can affect the amount of light trasmitted into vinyl houses. 2. Cultivation of several leading varieties in each crop may not provide stable production and profit especially under undesirable environmental conditions. Thus, it is required to grow not only leading varieties but also other cultivars to decrease the economic losses. 3. Crops should be carefully managed when planted in early season not to experience low temperatures which induce growth retards. Early season cultivation requires proper selection of cultivars which are resistant to low temperture. 4. Active control of micro-environment in facilities should be made via improving the ventilation and irrigation systems.

  • This study aims to analyze the hair styles featured in the collections from S/S season of 1995 to F/W season of 2004 both qualitatively and quantitatively by using content-analytical methods. This study was able to form a classifying system that divides hair styles into those artificial and those natural through systematic and scientific research. The resulting system, in turn, broadened the basis for understanding modern fashion and hair style expressions. In addition, by analyzing design-related characteristics, certain expressive techniques employed, and trends in detail, this study contributed to establishing the hair styles, which form part of socio-cultural phenomena, as an academic subject.

Cultural Analysis of Apology in American TV Series -Taking Desperate Housewives as an Example- (미국 드라마에서 사과 언어의 문화적인 분석 연구 -<위기의 주부들>을 중심으로-)

  • In this study, most of the previous researches on the analysis of apology are limited to comparative study of apology in different countries from the perspective of cross-cultural communication and analysis of apology in daily life. Therefore, by introducing pragmatics on apology strategy and cultural interpretation theories, this study tried to analyze apology and apology strategies in the seventh season of American TV series Desperate Housewives. Specifically speaking, based on Trosborg's classification of apology strategies, this study sorted out, classified and counted apology strategies in the seventh season of Desperate Housewives, and then 200 apology strategies were randomly selected and analyzed in detail. The statistical results showed that 'expression of apology' strategy was used at the highest frequency of 64.0%, followed by 'explanation or account' and 'minimizing the degree of offence'; 'Acknowledgement of responsibility', 'offer of repair' strategy, 'expressing concern for hearer' and 'promise of forbearance' were used relatively less frequently. The results can be interpreted by America's high individualism, low power distance and low-context culture having great influence on the frequency of American apology strategy. This study can increase understanding of apology and culture, reduce offence in communication with Americans, and make cross-cultural communication smooth, and meanwhile it is expected to enrich the research scope of TV drama art by analyzing language in TV drama art.

Predicting Influence of Changes in Indoor Air Temperature and Humidity of Wooden Cultural Heritages by Door Opening on Their Conservation Environment (개방에 따른 실내 온습도 변화가 목조문화재 보존환경에 미치는 영향 예측)

  • This study was conducted to predict the effect of door opening in wooden cultural heritages (WCHs) on their conservation environment. For this prediction, measured relative humidity (RH) and surface wood moisture content (MC) of inner part of wood columns in open wooden building and neighboring closed wooden building were compared with minimum RH, including the duration of minimum RH, and MC required for spore germination and resultant growth of wood-degrading fungi reported in some literatures. Moisture conditions, namely RH of inside wooden building and MC of wood was unsuitable for decay and sap-stain fungi all the year round; however, moisture conditions during summer season was suitable for spore germination and resultant growth of surface mold fungi, regardless of door opening. When compared, the duration of minimum (75%) or higher RH and the number of wood columns with MC level greater than the minimum MC (15%) during summer season, the surface mold related to the conservation environment of inside wooden building was somewhat better in open building than in closed building. Rather, doors should be opened in closed building for reducing indoor RH as a necessary measure during summer season when outdoor RH is high.

  • Modern society is a multi-cultural consumer society, and there are multiple trends to cater to the tastes of diverse consumers with different sociocultural background. To grasp fashion trends in fast-changing society, how consumer life is changing and what sort of trend is prevailing should be understood above all. A major fashion trend keeps on changing in every season, and that is an extensive and compound measure of what affects the lives and values of cultural receivers who take the lead in it. The purpose of this study was to delve into what sorts of trends were presented in the 21st century's different cultures, how those cultures were reflected in fashion trends, and how design elements predicted by fashion trends could serve as the sources of design that could create a new fashion. The findings of the study were as follows: First of all, the theories of popular culture and trends were reviewed to describe how general receivers found meaning and delight in the products of cultural industry in their own way and how the products were converted into diverse cultural media. Secondly, consumer styles were discussed by classifying consumers into six groups, twixter, duppie, Ubi-Nomad, NONOS, LOHAS and chav, who were generated by changing cultural codes. Thirdly, sociocultural trends and consumer changes brought a lot of diverse changes to fashion trends. The visual materials about the 2005 S/S, F/W Collection were examined to track how changing trends affected fashion style.

Cultural Practices for Improving Grain Quality of Rice in Southern Plain Area (남부평야지 미질향상을 위한 재배기술 개선)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the cultural practices for improvement of rice grain quality under different cultivation times and fertilizer levels at panicle initiation, heading and different drainage times after heading. The obtained results could be summarized as follows. In consideration of brown rice whole kernel form, and analyzed physico-chemical properties cultivation time required the optimum season before June 5. Feltilizer level at panicle initiation and heading needed 3kg/10a or less. Drainage time desired late drainage at 30-40 days after heading.

  • Human desire is required to be changed variously as time flows. A theme park which is planned to male a good memory including a variety of story, drama, and experience with one of themes is increasingly and currently broaden to be a good economic value of cultural tourism for the local autonomy institution or individual business. The plan for a theme park should be developed to give the tourist satisfaction at studious and ecology educational needs in conformity with our country's distinctive four seasons, its surrounding environment, facilities, and its contents. This design which is called 'Bear theme park' has only one theme focused on a combined effort with a landscape designer and a sculptor. It is estimated that the park must be our country's unique model of a theme park The purpose of this study is to request the designer's direct construction to participate in it by themselves, to solve any problems on the design side, to experience the real construction procedure, and to take the designer's techniques, and skills as soon as the design completed.

  • The investigation was carried out to identify the main pathogen infected with sheath blight in corn plant during 1986-1987. The main fungi of sheath blight isolated from corn plant was identified as Rhizoctonia sobni. Sheath blight in corn plant was first found in early July and infected extremely from late July to end August. Severe sheath blight disease was observed in Gyeongido (Yeoju and Suweon) and Jeonnam (Kwangju) area. The rate of attack was associatied with management and cultural environments of corn plant. Dense planting increased sheath blight, but application of cattle compost reduced the rate of infection. A positive correlation was found between infection rate of shealth blight and concentration of soluble carbohydrate in corn plant (r=0.96). The varieties of Jinjuok, Suweon 83, Suweon 87, Suweon 89, P.3055, P.3160, DK689 and XCG 51 showed remarkable tolerance to sheath blight disease.
