  • The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of atmospheric stability on near-field pollutant dispersion from rooftop emissions of a single cubic building using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This paper used the shear stress transport (here after SST) k-${\omega}$ model for predicting the flow and pollutant dispersion around an isolated cubic building. CFD simulations were performed with two emission rates and six atmospheric stability conditions. The results of the simulations were compared with the data from wind tunnel experiments and the result of simulations obtained by previous studies in neutral atmospheric condition. The results indicate that the reattachment length on the roof ($X_R$) obtained by computations show good agreement with the experimental results. However, the reattachment length of the rooftop of the building ($X_F$) is greatly overestimated compared to the findings of wind tunnel test. The result also shows that the general distribution of dimensionless concentration given by SST k-${\omega}$ at the side and leeward wall surfaces is similar to that of the experiment. In unstable conditions, the length of the rooftop cavity was decreased. In stable conditions, the horizontal velocity in the lower part around the building was increased and the vertical velocity around the building was decreased. Stratification increased the horizontal cavity length and width near surface and unstable stratification decreased the horizontal cavity length and width near surface. Maintained stability increases the lateral spread of the plume on the leeward surface. The concentration levels close to the ground's surface under stable conditions were higher than under unstable and neutral conditions.

  • $Ni_{0.65}Zn_{0.35}Cu_{0.1}Fe{1.9}O_4$ has been studied with Mossbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure is found to be a cubic spinel with the lattice constant $a_0=8.390{\AA}$. Mossbauer spectra of $Ni_{0.65}Zn_{0.35}Cu_{0.1}Fe{1.9}O_4$ has been taken at various temperatures ranging from 12 K to 705 K. The isomer shift indicates that iron ions are ferric at tetrahedral [A] and octahedral sites [B], respectively. The Neel temperature is determined to be $T_N=705\;K$. As the temperature increases toward $T_N$ a systematic line broadening effect in the Mossbauer spectrum is observed and interpreted to originate from different temperature dependencies of the magnetic hyperfine fields at various iron sites. The quadrupole splitting just on $T_N$ is 0.41 mm/s whereas the quadrupole shift below $T_N$ vanishes. This implies that the orientation of the magnetic hyperfine field with respect to be principal axes of the electric field gradient is random.

  • The structure and dielectric properties of poled <001>-oriented 0.7Pb($Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.3PbTiO_3$ (PMN-0.3PT) crystals have been investigated for orientations both parallel and perpendicular to the [001] poling direction. An electric field induced monoclinic phase was observed for the initial poled sample. The phase remained stable after the field was removed. A quite different temperature dependence of dielectric constant has been observed between heating and cooling due to an irreversible phase transformation. The results of mesh scans and temperature dependence of the dielectric constant demonstrate that the initial monoclinic phase changes to a single domain tetragonal phase at 370K and to a paraelectric cubic phase at 405K upon heating. However, upon subsequent cooling from the unpoled state, the cubic phase changes to a poly domain tetragonal phase and to a rhombohedral phase. In the ferroelectric tetragonal phase with a single domain state, the dielectric constant measured perpendicular to the poling direction was dramatically higher than that of the parallel direction. A large dielectric constant implies easier polarization rotation away from the polar axis. This enhancement is believed to be related to dielectric softening close to the morphotropic phase boundary and at the phase transition temperature.

  • A higher order zig-zag shell theory is developed to refine the predictions of the mechanical and thermal behaviors partially coupled. The in-plane displacement fields are constructed by superimposing linear zig-zag field to the smooth globally cubic varying field through the thickness. Smooth parabolic distribution through the thickness is assumed in the out-of-plane displacement in order to consider transverse normal deformation and stress. The layer-dependent degrees of freedom of displacement fields are expressed in terms of reference primary degrees of freedom by applying interface continuity conditions as well as bounding surface conditions of transverse shear stresses. Thus the proposed theory has only seven primary unknowns and they do not depend upon the number of layers. In the description of geometry and deformation of shell surface, all rigorous exact expressions are used. Through the numerical examples of partially coupled analysis, the accuracy and efficiency of the present theory are demonstrated. The present theory is suitable in the predictions of deformation and stresses of thick composite shell under mechanical and thermal loads combined.

  • Three-dimensional natural convection from a discrete flush-mounted circular heat source on the bottom of a cubic enclosure was studied by using a holographic interferometric tomography. The heat source was located at the off-center of the bottom plate so that three-dimensional temperature field can be achieved. A set of multidirectional holographic interferogram was recorded by employing a double-reference beam, double-exposure holographic technique in order to eventually reconstruct the temperature fields. The recorded interferometric data appear good enough to be further processed to extract optical pathlength data from them and finally reconstruct the temperature fields. A complete analysis of the temperature fields including the field reconstructions and comparison with thermocouple measurements is underway and will be reported shortly.

  • Propellers operating in a given nonuniform ship wake generate unsteady loads leading to undesirable stern vibration problems. The skew is known to be the most proper and effective geometric parameter to control or reduce the fluctuating forces on the shaft. This paper assumes the skew profile as either a quadratic or a cubic function of the radius and determines the coefficients of the polynomial function by applying the simplex method. The method uses the converted unconstrained algorithm to solve the constrained minimization problem of 6-component shaft excitation forces. The propeller excitation was computed either by applying the two-dimensional gust theory for quick estimation or by the fully three-dimensional unsteady lifting surface theory in time domain for an accurate solution. A sample result demonstrates that the shaft forces can be further reduced through optimization from the original design.

  • Fluoride({{{{ { CaF}_{2 } }}}}) films exhibited a cubic structure with similar lattice constant to that of Si and have sufficient breakdown electric field as gate dielectric material. Therefore, {{{{ { CaF}_{2 } }}}} are expected to replace conventional insulator such {{{{ { SiO}_{ 2},{Ta}_{2}{O}_{ 2} and{Al}_{2}{O}_{5}. However, {CaF}_{2}}}}} films showed hystereisis properties due to mobile charges in the film. To solve this problem we performed thermal treatment and achieves field. C-v results indicate a reduced hystereisis window of {{{{ }}}}ΔV =0.2v, LOW INTERFACE STATE {{{{{D}_{it}=2.0 TIMES {10}^{11}{cm}^{-1}{eV}^{-1}}}}} in midgap, and good WIS diode properties. We observed a preferential crystallization of(200) plane from XRD analysis. RTA treatment effects on various material properties of {{{{{CaF}_{2}}}}} are presented in this paper.

  • The suspension system of cars is composed of dampers and springs, which usually have nonlinear characteristics. The nonlinear characteristics make the differences in the results of analytical models and experiments. In this study, the nonlinear system identification method which does not assume a special form for nonlinear dynamic systems and minimize the error by calculating the error reduction ratio is devised to estimate the nonlinear parameters of the suspension system of an EF-SONATA car from the field running test data. The results show that the spring has a cubic nonlinear term and the damper has a coupled nonlinear term. Also, the numerical results with the estimated nonlinear parameters agree well with the field test data for the different running speeds.

  • In the course of magnetic study on several perovskite-type oxides, A2Fe(Ⅲ)BO6 (A = Ca, Sr, Ba and B = Sb, Bi), we have observed a strong irreversibility in their dc-magnetizations. When the structural data and the Mossbauer spectra are considered, such an irreversibility is to be associated with some competitions between the nearest-neighbors (nn) and the next-nearest-neighbors (nnn) in their magnetic sublattices. Particularly, the Mossbauer spectra indicate that Sr2FeBiO6 of cubic perovskite-structure is apparently well ordered crystalline compound. Nontheless this antiferromagnet shows a magnetic property which resembles that of a spin-glass. The strong history dependence is observed below 91 K and the irreversible magnetic behavior is also observed from the measurement of hysteresis loops at 10 K after zero-field-cooled (zfc) and field-cooled (fc) processes. Considering the nn and the nnn superexchanges of almost same order in ordered perovskite, it is proposed that there exists a competition and cancellation of antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic superexchange between the nearest-neighbors and the next-nearest-neighbors, thus introducing a certain degree of frustration.

  • A new approach for the design of extrusion die surface of arbitrarily shaped section is presented. In order to generate the extrusion die surface. an automatic surface construction method based on B-spline surface and scalar field theory is proposed. The isothermal lines and stream lines designed in the scalar field are introduced to find the control points which are used in constructing B-spline surfaces. Intersected points between the isothermal lines and stream lines are used to construct B-spline surfaces. The inlet and outlet profiles are precisely described with B-spline curves by using the centripetal method for uniform parameterization. The extrusion die surface is generated by using the cubic curve interpolation in the u- and v-directions. A quantitative measure for the control of surface is suggested by introducing the tangential vectors at the inlet and outlet sections. To verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method, automatic surface generation is carried out for extrusion dies of arbitrarily shaped sections.
