This study was performed in 22 unthinned Larix olgensis plantations in northeast China. Data were collected on 95 sample trees of different canopy positions and the diameter at breast height ($d_{1.3}$) ranged from 5.7 cm to 40.2 cm. The individual tree models for the prediction of vertical distribution of live crown, branch and needle biomass were built. Our study showed that the crown, branch and needle biomass distributions were most in the location of 60% crown length. These results were also parallel to previous crown studies. The cumulative relative biomass of live crown, branch and needle were fitted by the sigmoid shape curve and the fitting results were quite well. Meanwhile, we developed the crown ratio and width models. Tree height was the most important predictor for crown ratio model. A negative competition factor, ccf and bas which reflected the effect of suppression on a tree, reduced the crown ratio estimates. The height-diameter ratio was a significant predictor. The higher the height-diameter ratio, the higher crown ratio is. Diameter at breast height is the strongest predictor in crown width model. The models can be used for the planning of harvesting operations, for the selection of feasible harvesting methods, and for the estimation of nutrient removals of different harvesting practices.
Crown ratio is the ratio of live crown length to tree height. It is often used as an important predictor variable for tree growth equation. It indicates tree vigor and is a useful parameter in forest health assessment. The objective of the study was to develop crown ratio prediction models for Tectona grandis. Based on the data set from the temporary sample plots, several non linear equations including logistics, Chapman Richard and exponential functions were tested. These functions were evaluated in terms of coefficient of determination ($R^2$) and standard error of the estimate (SEE). The significance of the estimated parameters was also verified. Plot of residuals against estimated crown ratios were observed. Although the logistic model had the highest $R^2$ and the least SEE, Chapman-Richard and Exponential functions were observed to be more consistent in their predictive ability; and were therefore recommended for predicting crown ratio in the stand.

Statement of the problem: In cases of low bone level in maxilla followed by extraction due to severe periodontitis or enlarged maxillary sinus, crown-root ratio of implant prosthesis will increase. The prognosis of these cases is not good as expected. Purpose : The purpose is to compare stress distribution due to crown-root ratio and effect of splinting between two implants in maxillary molar area under different loads Material and methods: Using ITI($4.1{\times}10$ mm) implant. two finite element models were made(model S: two parallel implants, model A: one of two is 20 degree inclined). Each model was designed in different crown-root ratio(0.7:1, 1:1, 1.25:1) and set cement type gold crown to make it splinted or non-splinted clinical situations. After that, 300 N force was loaded to each model in four ways.(load 1 : middle of occlusal table, load 2 : middle of buccal cusp, load 3 : middle of lingual cusp, load 4 : horizontal load to middle of buccal cusp), and stress distribution was analyzed. Results: On all occasions, stress was concentrated on neck of implant near cortical bone. In the case of inclined implant, stress was increased compared with parallel implants. Under load 1, 2, 3, stress was not increased even when crown-root ratio increases, but under load 4, when crown-root ratio increases, stress also increased. And more stress was concentrated under load 1 than load 2, 3. When crown-root ratio was same, stress under load 1, 2, 3 decreased when splinting, but under load 4, stress did not really decrease. Conclusion: Under vertical load, stress distribution related to crown-root ratio did not change. But under horizontal load, stress increased as crown-root ratio increases. Under vertical load, splinting decreased stress but under horizontal load, effect of splinting was decreased as condition of implant changes for the worse such as increase of crown-root ratio, inclined implant.
Tooth mobility is one of the most important clinical parameters in examination, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment planning procedure. In order to determine the differences of tooth mobility according to radiographical bone level, clinical root length, clinical crown/root ratio, and bleeding on probing, 90 male adults with periodontal disease and 10 male adults with periodontal health($25{\sim}45$ years old) were selected through clinical examinations including occlusal relationship, probing depth, attachment level, and bleeding on probing. On the mandibular anterior teeth, standard periapical radiographs were taken, and tooth mobility was measured by Periotest(Siemens Co., Germany). The radiographic bone level of individual tooth was evaluated as coronal 1/3, middle 1/3, and apical 1/3 to anatomical root length, and clinical crown length from incisal edge to bone level and clinical root length from bone level to root apex were measured with Boley gauge, and subsquently clinical crown/root ratio was calculated. The difference of tooth mobility(Periotest value) according to radiographical bone level, clinical root length, clinical crown/root ratio, and bleeding on probing was statistically analyzed by unpaired Student t-test. Tooth mobility was significantly higher in bleeding group than non-bleeding group on probing in the teeth radiographic bone level of middle 1/3, with clinical root length longer than 6mm, and with clinical crown/root ratio over 0.3(p<0.01). But there was no statistical difference in tooth mobility between bleeding group and non-bleeding group on probing in the teeth with radiographic bone level of apical 1/3, with short clinical root length less than 5mm, and with clinical crown/root ratio under 0.2(p>0.05). The results note that the tooth mobility depends on clinical root length, clinical crown/root ratio and gingival inflammation, and in the teeth with relatively good alveolar bone support gingival inflammation is one of the most important factors that affect tooth mobility.

We report herein synthetic results obtained six new types of bis-benzocrown ethers containing imine group. Bis crown ethers l~3 are aminobenzo-15-crown-5-ether linked with terephthalaldehyde, isophthalaldehyde, phthaldehyde respectively by imine reaction. Bis crown ethers l~3 are different distances in each crown ether rings. Bis crown ether 4 has large cavity in crown ethers. Functionalized crown ether 5 is synthesized amonobenzo-l5-crown-5-ether and terephthaladehyde same ratio at one to one. Bis crown ether 6 has phothosensitive linkage between crown ethers. Bis crown ether 7 is prepared by amonobenzo-l5-crown-5-ether and triethyl ortho formate. 4'-Nitrobenzo-crown ethers and 3',4'-dinitrobenzo-crown ethers were prepared by nitration of benzo crown ethers, obtained from the reaction of catechol and oligoethylene glycol ditosylate. Crown ethers containing aldehyde group were synthesized from the reaction of 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde and corresponding ditosylate respectively. The synthesized crown ethers were characterized respectively by IR, NMR. GC-Mass.
Radical copolymerization behavior of 4'-vinylbenzo-15-crown-5, a vinyl monomer having a pendant 15-membared crown ether unit (VCE) with di(ethylene glycol) ethyl ether acrylate (DEGEEA) was carried out in toluene solution using 2,2-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator. The copolymers were characterized by means of FT-IR, $^1{H-NMR}$, and $^{13}{C-NMR}$ . The reactivity ratio of VCE and DEGEEA, determined by Fineman-Ross and Kelen-Tudos method, gave values 0.55 for VCE, and 0.11 for DEGEEA respectively.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of investing conditions on the marginal discrepancy of conical telescope outer crown with Co-Cr-Ti alloy(Dentitan) and to compare the marginal discrepancy and the retention force of outer crowns using different pattern materials(plastic foil, casting wax, pattern resin). To evaluate the effects of investing conditions on the marginal discrepancy, patterns with plastic foil were invested under three different liquid/powder ratio conditions using phosphate bonded investment(Univest-nonprecious): standard, 10% decreased and 10% increased. At each liquid/powder ratio condition, metal ring was lined with single or double layers of ceramic ring liner. The marginal discrepancy of outer crown at different investing conditions was measured by ${\times}100$ compact measuring microscope(STM5, Olympus, Japan). For measurement of the marginal discrepancy and the retention force of outer crown using different pattern materials, the investing condition of 10% decreased liquid/powder ratio and double layers of ring liner was selected because this investing condition resulted in the best fit of outer crown. Marginal discrepancy was measured in the same way above and retention force on universal testing machine. Under the conditions of this study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. The thickness of ring liner had more influence on the marginal discrepancy of outer crown than the liquid/powder ratio, and the acceptable marginal fitness could not be expected at the investing condition directed by investment manufacturer 2. There were no differences in the marginal discrepancy of outer crown among three different pattern materials(P>0.05). 3. Casting wax showed the greatest retention force(1640g) of outer crown, followed by pattern resin(1110g), plastic foil(820g). However, there was no significant difference between plastic foil and pattern resin(P>0.05). 4. Plastic foil showed the least variation in marginal discrepancy and retention force.
D.B.H., height, crown length, crown width, crown form, crown area, and crown volume of dead and live trees were measured and the discriminant analysis was conducted to assess individual tree risk-rating in the pine forest seriously infested by the pine needle gall midge. Thecodiplosis japonensis. Crown length, crown form, crown area, and crown volume of live tree were significantly higher than those of dead tree, while D.B.H. and tree height were not different significantly. These results represent that the trees with higher and wider crown and larger crown volume have relatively higher probability to survive from the infestation by the pine needle gall midge. Variables selected in the functions of discriminant analysis were crown area, ratio of crown length, crown form, ratio of crown volume to crown area, and ratio of crown width.
Statement of the problem: Under anatomical limitations on maxillary posterior region, a poor crown-to root ratio acting on dental implants can result in undesirable stress in surrounding bone, which in turn can cause bone defects and eventual failure of implants. Purpose: The purpose is to compare stress distribution due to different crown-root ratio and effect of splinting between natural teeth and implants in maxillary molar area under different loads. Material and methods: Analysis of stress arising supporting bone of the natural teeth and the implant was made with 3-dimensional finite element method. The model simulated naturel teeth was made with 2nd premolar and 1st molar in the maxillary molar region (Model T). The model simulated implants placed on same positions with two parallel implants of Straumann Dental Implant cemented abutment (Model I). Each model was designed in different crown-root ratio (0.7:1, 1:1, 1.25:1) and set cement type gold crown to make it non-splinted or splinted. After that, 300 N force was loaded to each model in five ways (Load 1: middle of occlusal table, Load 2: middle of buccal cusp, Load 3: middle of lingual cusp, Load 4: horizontal load to buccal cusp of anterior abutment only, Load 5: horizontal load to middle of buccal cusp of each abutment), and stress distribution was analyzed. Results and conclusion: On all occasions, stress was concentrated at the cervical region of the implant. Under load 1, 2 and 3, stress was not increased even when crown-root ratio increases, but under load 4 and 5, when crown-root ratio increases, stress also increased. There was difference in stress values between natural teeth and implants when crown-root ratio gradually increases; In case of natural teeth, splinting decreased stress under vertical and horizontal loads. In case of implants, splinting decreased stress under vertical loads 1,2 and 3, but increased maximal stress under loads 2 and 3. Under horizontal loads, splinting decreased stress, however the effect of splinting decreased under load 5 than load 4. Furthermore, the stress was increased, when crown-root ratio is 1.25:1. Clinical implications: This limited finite element study suggests that the stress on supporting bone may be increased under non-axial loads and poor crown-root ratio. Under poor crown-root ratio, excessive stress was generated at the cervical region of the implant, and decreased splinting effect for stress distribution, which can be related to clinical failure.

This study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of crown fuel biomass and to develop allometric equations for the estimation of crown fuel biomass by subjectively categorized the crown component in Pinus densiflora stands. A total of ten representative trees were destructively sampled in Youngju region. Crown fuel were weighed separately for each fuel category by size class. The results of this study showed that foliar moisture content was 119% while the average crown moisture content was 105.3%. The crown fuel/total fuel loading ratio was 30%, needles and twigs with less than 1 cm diameter accounted 50.3% for its fuel/crown fuel loading ratio. Adjusted multiple coefficient of determination of suggested allometric equations ranged from 0.6846 to 0.9246 for crown fuel biomass, 0.8308 for crown volume.
