  • Widths between the first permanent molars and the mesio-distal widths of the four anterior teeth were measured on 32 lower and 33 upper dental casts of young adults aged 18-25 yerars. The casts were grouped in five categories-two where no anterior crowding existed, and three in which varying degrees of crowding were present. Subjects with a difference between arch width and anterior tooth widths greater than 4mm in the upper arch, or 10mm in the lower arch, rarely had crowding. As arch width changes very little from age 7 onwards, measurements at this age may be used as a screening mechansim for future arch crowding.

  • When a patient shows severe crowding, premolar extraction should be considered to provide required available space for alignment. If the third molars have already erupted and demonstrate a poor prognosis, third molar extraction and distalization of the posterior dentition can be used instead of premolar extraction to obtain space. Interproximal stripping (IPS) may also be used to gain space in cases of crowding. This case report describes the treatment of a 25-year-old man with severe crowding and mild lip protrusion. Although the crowding in the lower arch was severe enough to require first premolar extraction, distalization of the entire lower dentition with orthodontic mini-implants, extraction of the lower third molars, and IPS could successfully resolve the crowding and lip protrusion.

  • The research work has been conducted in order to establish facts on posterior available space in patients with crowding. The relation between crowding and posterior available space was worked out through a cross sectinal study of fifty eight patients showing class I malocclusion. In addition, a longitudinal overlapping study was done by examing twenty patients who had their bicuspid extracted and forty nine patients who did not, at the orthodontic department of dental clinic affiliated in Chosun University. The patients had been examined for three years and eight months on a regular basis, and the study yielded the following conculusion. 1. There was a great difference in posterior available space between patients with serious crowding and those with slight crowding. The former marked 15.2mm of posterior available space and the latter 19.9mm. 2. Posterior crowding index was acquired by joint consideration of the diameter of posterior teeth and posterior available space, and manifested the highest relationship with crowding among measured items. 3. Patients who had their bicuspids extracted exhibited increase in posterior available space of 1.6mm/year and those who did not 1.8mm/year. 4. The absorption of anterior border of ramus turned out to be most deeply related with the increase of posterior available space. 5. Anterior border of ramus was absorbed at the average rate of 0.7mm/year during the period of observation. 6. The extraction of bicuspids had little influnce on the change in posterior available space.

  • This paper studies on the influence of customers' perceived store crowding, shopping emotions, shopping value, and repatronage intention. The result is as follows. First, human crowding and spatial crowding influence two dimensions of shopping emotions: positive shopping emotions and negative shopping emotions. Especially human crowding influences positively on positive shopping emotions while spatial crowding influence positively on negative shopping emotions, which means that shoppers visiting stores feel negative shopping emotions toward spatial crowding, but that shoppers' crowding in stores can arose positive shopping emotions which intrigue interest and liveliness. Second, positive shopping emotions and negative shopping emotions influence two dimensions of shopping values: hedonic shopping value and utilitarian shopping value. Especially positive shopping emotion influences positively on utilitarian shopping value and hedonic shopping value while negative shopping emotion influence negatively on utilitarian shopping value and hedonic shopping value. Third, the result shows that shoppers' shopping values influences positively on repatronage intention.

  • In recent years, conoeptualizations of the residential crowding phenomena have developed form deterministic approaches to functionalistic ones which emphasize the interaction of environmental , social, and personal variables. The influences of each variables which are believed to mediate the crowding perception have been tested. This study examines the association of the influence of socio-demographic variables, residential setting and previous residential experience with the residential crowding. Futhermore, the residential adoptation behavior in response to the crowding phenomena is analyzed. The results of a survey are as follows; 1)The most important variables which influence residential crowding are the residential setting variables such as the floor space and the measure of persons per room. Also the household income and the family structure influence the residential crowding. No previous residential experience effects were found. 2)The residential adoptation behavior is influenced by sex, age and socio-economic status of the family. Female and the age group of 20s and 30s tend to prefer such alternatives as moving or residential alterations and additions. On the other hand, male and the age group of 40s and 50s tend to prefer staying without nay alternatives or structural family adoptation. The group of higher socio- economic status tend to show higher preference to moving and alterations, and the lower ones tend to stay or take the alternative of the structural family adoptation. Years of education and the family structure do not influence the residential adopation behavior.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship of dental crowding to tooth size and arch dimension in Korean subjects. Two groups of dental casts with Class I molar relationship, were selected on the basis of crowding. One group, consisting of 82 pairs of study cast (29 males and 53 females), exhibited at least 7 millimeters of crowding in each arch. A second group, consisting of 82 sets of study cast (37 males and 45 females), exhibited normal occlusion with little or no crowding. Mesiodistal tooth diameters, and buccal and lingual dental arch widths were measured and compared between the crowding and normal occlusion groups. Significant differences were observed between the two groups not only in arch widths but also in tooth sizes. The results of the present study suggest that both extraction and expansion can be used as a treatment approach for the crowding cases.

  • Currently, subway crowding is estimated by observing a specific point at specific hours once or twice every 1 or 2 years. Given the extensive subway network in Seoul Metropolitan Area covering 588 stations, 11 lines and 80 transfer stations as of 2017, implementing crowding mitigation policy may have its limitations due to data uncertainty. A proposal has recently been made to effectively use smart card data, which generates big data on the overall subway traffic related to an estimated 8 million passengers per day. To mitigate subway crowding, this study proposes two viable options based on data related to smart card used in Seoul Metropolitan Area. One is to create a subway passenger pattern model to accurately estimate subway crowding, while the other is to prove effectiveness of early bird policy to distribute subway demand that is concentrated at certain stations and certain time. A subway passenger pattern model was created to estimate the passenger routes based on subway terminal ID at the entrance and exit and data by hours. To that end, we propose assigning passengers at the routes similar to the shortest routes based on an assumption that passengers choose the fastest routes. In the model, passenger flow is simulated every minute, and subway crowding level by station and line at every hour is analyzed while station usage pattern is identified by depending on passenger paths. For early bird policy, highly crowded stations will be categorized based on congestion level extracted from subway passenger pattern model and viability of a policy which transfers certain traveling demands to early commuting hours in those stations will be reviewed. In particular, review will be conducted on the impact of policy implemented at certain stations on other stations and lines from subway network as a whole. Lastly, we proposed that smart card based subway passenger pattern model established through this study used in decision making process to ensure effective implementation of public transport policy.

  • This study was undertaken to examine the extent to which tooth size and jaw size each contribute to dental crowding. Two groups of dental casts were selected on the basis of dental crowding. One group, consisting of 94 pairs of dental casts (46 males and 48 females) with normal occlusion. A second group, consisting of 84 pairs of dental casts (98 males and 46 females) with crowding. The results were as follows. 1. Means and standard deviations of the two groups were used to compare the two groups. 2. Significant differences were observed between two groups on the basis of tooth size, arch dimension and arch perimeter. 3. Between noncrowded group and crowded group, was crowded group was found to have large troth size than noncrowded group, while smaller arch dimension and perimeter. 4. Significant differences were observed between males and females on the basis of tooth size, arch dimension and arch perimeter. 5. Author found ideal arch shape of normal occlusion.

  • This paper investigates how In-store crowding influences behavioral intention with mediating consumer emotion within store. We performed covariance structural analysis based on 486 subjects on family restaurants. The results showed that perceived In-store crowding negatively influences positive-customer emotion and positively influences negative-customer emotion. In addition, In-store crowding on intention to behavior channeled through consumer emotion. Finally, we discuss the results of analysis and suggest research limitation and future study.

  • This study focused o investigating the variables dauther-in-law and mother-in=-law's subjective household crowding. And which is the best index among space per person, persons per room, and the number of family members was the next issue. the results of this study were as follows. 1. Variables that effected on the dauther-in-law's subjective household crowding were expectation about the number of rooms, the educational level of the dauther-in-law, duration of marriage, educational level of mother-in-law, space per person. In the case of mother-in-law, these were duration of marriage, space per person, expectation about the number of rooms, educational level of mother-in-law. 2. The best objective household crowding index was the space per person. Finally we need to look at the suv-dimension that composed of subjective household crowding of the old.
