Transformational Leadership and Consequences: The Role of Organizational Identification

  • Purpose - The purpose of this research is to test the impact of transformational leadership on subordinates' performance (job performance and creativity) in Chinese companies. In addition, it intends to verify the mediating effect of subordinates' organizational identification on the relationship between transformational leadership and employee performance. Research design, data, and methodology - To this end, a survey was conducted on the members of Chinese companies. Out of 400 returned responses to the final questionnaire, 349 were used for analysis after excluding invalid responses. Data were analyzed using SPSS 24 and AMOS 24. Result - The analysis results are as follows. First, transformational leadership has a direct effect on subordinates' job performance and creativity. Second, transformational leadership was found to increase subordinates' organizational identification. Third, the mediating effect of organizational identification was verified in the relationship between transformational leadership and performance (job performance and creativity). Conclusion -This study analyzed the effect of the transformational leadership on subordinate's job performance and creativity amid the deepening of China's market economy policies after economic opening. The study expands the related studies.

Supported and Unleashed - The Impact of Work Environment on the Creative Performance of Knowledge Workers: An Empirical Study in Saudi Arabia

  • Organizations pursue innovation to improve performance and gain competitive advantage, and knowledge workers represent an integral part of creating knowledge and helping organizations in their innovation efforts. The current paper seeks to examine the impact of the work environment on knowledge workers' creativity. Building on The Investment Theory of Creativity, The Componential Theory of Creativity, the Job Demand-Resource model, and the Resource Based View, we develop and test a model suggesting a relationship between work environment-social support, sufficient resources, organizational freedom, and organizational regulations-and the quantity and quality of the creative performance of knowledge workers. Using a sample of 167 engineers in Saudi Arabia, an emerging but wealthy country with huge innovation inspirations, the results of our Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression analysis indicate that all four elements of the work environment included in our study positively impact the quantity and quality of knowledge workers' creative performance. Our paper provides important contributions to the literature on the work environment, creativity, and knowledge management, with an emphasis on creativity in developing countries. Our study highlights the importance of creating a supportive and encouraging work environment for knowledge workers to foster their creativity. The study offers several theoretical and managerial implications, along with suggestions for future research.

시멘트와 거푸집을 이용한 중학교 메이커 교육 프로그램이 창의융합 역량에 미치는 효과 (Development of a Maker Education Program Using Cement and Mold for Middle School Students and Effect on Convergence Ability for Creativity)

  • 최근까지 메이커 교육의 흐름은 3D 스캐너, 3D 프린터, 피지컬 컴퓨팅 도구 등과 같은 디지털 기기를 활용한 메이커 프로그램 연구들이 주류를 이룬 반면, 학생들의 창의적인 아이디어를 즉시 다양한 형상으로 구현하여 직접 손으로 만들 수 있는 메이커 교육 프로그램 개발은 다소 미흡한 실정이었다. 이 연구에서는 중학교 기술 교과를 학습하는 학생들을 위해 시멘트와 거푸집을 이용한 메이커 교육 프로그램을 개발하고 학생들의 창의융합 역량에 미치는 효과를 분석하였다. 이 연구의 준비 단계에서는 문헌분석을 통해 학습단원과 내용요소를 추출하였으며, 개발 단계에서는 교수-학습 자료를 개발하고 교수-학습 자료 타당도 및 창의융합 역량을 측정할 수 있는 평가도구를 선정하였다. 실행 단계에서는 교수-학습 자료와 창의융합 역량 평가도구에 대한 전문가 타당도 검증을 실시한 후 수업을 실시하였으며, 평가단계에서는 창의융합 역량을 분석하였다. 이 연구에서 개발한 프로그램을 바탕으로 t-검증을 실시한 결과 학생들에게 창의융합 역량에서 유의미한 변화가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 하위요인으로는 소통과 협업능력, 타 분야에 대한 지식, 인본주의 요인이 향상된 것으로 나타났다.

초등학생의 창의 과정과 산물의 관계를 탐색하기 위한 과학 창의성 검사 도구 개발 - 생명 영역을 중심으로 - (Developing a Scientific Creativity Test to Explore the Relationship between Elementary Students' Creative Process and Product - Focusing on Biology -)

  • 이 연구는 초등학생의 창의 과정과 산물의 관계를 탐색하기 위한 과학 창의성 검사 도구를 개발하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위해 연구자는 과학 창의성 관련 논문을 분석한 후, 창의 과정과 산물의 구성요인에 근거하여 문항을 개발하였다. 그리고 과학 교육 전문가 9명의 검토를 마친 검사 도구를 파일럿 테스트하였다. '동물', '식물'의 두 세트로 이루어진 검사 도구는 수정과 보완을 거쳐 최종적으로 5학년 학생 105명에게 투입되었다. 투입 결과는 WinSteps, SPSS와 AMOS 통계프로그램으로 분석되었다. 이 연구의 주요 결과는 첫째, 과학 영역에서 창의 과정은 과학 지식, 탐구기능, 창의적 사고기능(확산적, 수렴적, 연관적 사고)을 포함한다. 창의 산물은 새로우면서 과학적으로 유용한 아이디어가 어떤 형태로 나타난 것이다. 둘째, 이 연구에서 대표 탐구기능으로 선정된 관찰은 구성 타당도 측면에서 창의적 사고기능과 연관성이 없어야 했다. 셋째, 유용성 항목은 다른 항목 중 가장 낮은 평균치를 기록하였는데, 평가자인 교사의 관점에서 과학적 타당성과 유용성을 만족시키기 어렵기 때문으로 사료된다. 넷째, 동형검사 신뢰도를 알아보기 위한 '동물'과 '식물' 문항 간 스피어만 상관 계수는 독창성 항목을 제외하고 유의하게 나타났다. 다섯째, 검사 도구는 집중타당성, 판별타당성, 법칙타당성 세 가지 측면에서 구성 타당도를 대체로 만족시켰다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 창의 과정과 산물의 관계를 탐색하고 학교 현장에서 실제적인 평가 도구로 역할을 할 검사 도구의 유용성을 논하였다.

초등학생의 프로그래밍 능력과 특기적성간의 관계 분석 - 로고 언어 활용 사례 (The Analysis of the Relationship between the Elementary Students' Specialty-Aptitude and Programming Ability - a Case of LOGO Language Use)

  • 프로그래밍 학습 효과에 관한 기존 연구는 대개 창의력과 문제해결력의 향상도를 측정하는 것에 국한되어 있다. 본 연구는 이들 두 요소 외의 관련 요소들을 초등학생들의 특기적성 검사를 통하여 찾아보는 연구이다. 이를 위하여 초등 4학년을 대상으로 LOGO 프로그래밍 교육을 시행한 후 성취도 평가를 실시한 결과, 4개 영역으로 구성된 특기적성 검사 항목들 중 지적능력만이 하위 5개의 세부항목 모두 프로그래밍 능력과 높은 양의 상관관계가 있음이 밝혀졌으므로, 창의성 보다는 지적능력이 뛰어난 학생들이 프로그래밍 능력이 우수함을 알 수 있었고, 이는 본 연구의 실험 환경에 국한하여 프로그래밍 학습이 문제해결력과 창의성 발달에 긍정적 영향을 미친다는 기존 연구 결과의 반대 명제는 성립하지 않음을 나타낸 것이다.

중국 서비스 종업원의 내재적 동기와 종업원 창의성, 직무성과 : 동료지원의 조절적 매개모형 (Bridging Service Employee's Intrinsic Motivation and Job Performance : A Moderated Mediation Model)

  • Purpose - Our research aims to investigate the mediating effect of employee creativity on the relationship between intrinsic motivation and job performance using relationship using Chinese department salespeople samples. Another objective of this study is to be clear boundary conditions that strengthen or weaken the effects of intrinsic motivation on work outcomes (i.e., employee creativity and job performance). Drawing on JD-R theory, we suggest that the two types of coworker support play differential moderating roles in the intrinsic motivation, employee creativity relationship by increasing or decreasing job resources and demands in different ways. Research design, data, and methodology - This empirical study data were collected from gathered from a sample of full time salespeople in China. A total of 550 questionnaires were distributed and 300 responses were collected, indicating a response rate of 84.0%. Working with a sample of 300 salespeople working in a department store in China. SPSS 18.0, Process 2.16 Macro, and M-Plus 8.0 software were used in the data analysis. Descriptive statistics were used to evaluate the distribution of the employee profiles and correlations between variables. M-Plus 8.0 software was used to test the model fit, validity and reliability of the variables. Finally, all research hypotheses was estimated by SPSS Macro 2.16. Results - To test our research hypotheses, we employed an analytical strategy suggested by Hayes (2013; 2015) and Shrout and Bolger (2002). In this study, we tested the relationship between intrinsic motivation and job performance throughout employee creativity. Results showed intrinsic motivation and job performance was partially mediated by employee creativity. The positive relationship between intrinsic motivation and employee creativity when coworker emotional support was high than when it was low. In contrast, the positive association between intrinsic motivation and employee creativity was stronger when coworker instrumental support was low than when it was high. Coworker emotional and instrumental support further moderated the indirect effect of intrinsic motivation on job performance through employee creativity. Conclusions - This study extends the conceptual model and empirical researches in coworker supports literature by representing a fundamental mechanism of how salespeople's intrinsic motivation and job performance throughout employee creativity.

Math Creative Problem Solving Ability Test for Identification of the Mathematically Gifted

  • The purpose of this study was to develop math creative problem solving test in order to identify the mathematically gifted on the basis of their math creative problem solving ability and evaluate the goodness of the test in terms of its reliability and validity of measuring creativity in math problem solving on the basis of fluency in producing valid solutions. Ten open math problems were developed requiring math thinking abilities such as intuitive insight, organization of information, inductive and deductive reasoning, generalization and application, and reflective thinking. The 10 open math test items were administered to 2,029 Grade 5 students who were recommended by their teachers as candidates for gifted education programs. Fluency, the number of valid solutions, in each problem was scored by math teachers. Their responses were analyzed by BIGSTEPTS based on Rasch's 1-parameter item-response model. The item analyses revealed that the problems were good in reliability, validity, difficulty, and discrimination power even when creativity was scored with the single criteria of fluency. This also confirmed that the open problems which are less-defined, less-structured and non-entrenched were good in measuring math creativity of the candidates for math gifted education programs. In addition, it discriminated applicants for two different gifted educational institutions and between male and female students as well.

대학생들의 창의성 측정을 위한 TTCT의 적용과 학업성취 요소들 간의 관계 (Applying TTCT for Measuring the Creativity of College Students and its Relationship between the Elements of Academic Achievements)

  • 본 연구는 주로 공과대학 대학생들을 중심으로, 대학생들의 창의성을 측정 평가하고, 이를 바탕으로 학생들의 창의성을 증진시키는 교육과정을 마련하기 위한 창의성의 공학적 응용 기반 연구의 일환으로 진행되었다. 이를 위하여 창의성의 측정방법으로 제안된 TTCT의 주요 특성을 밝히고자 한다. 이는 대학생 집단의 창의성 지수에 대한 규준표의 제시, 창의성 점수의 성별, 전공별, 연령별 특성 분석, 창의성 점수와 성적과의 관계 분석 등으로 이루어진다. 이를 통하여 창의성의 정량적 측정을 위한 도구로서 TTCT의 활용가능성과 한계를 제시하고자 한다.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate high school students' competencies of creativity thinking, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and digital competence by implementing science fiction STEAM program. Based on the story of 'Fritz Haber' and the 'Garden of Dawn', a STEAM program was developed according to the ADDIE model. In the analysis stage, the purpose of the teaching-learning program using novels was set, and learners and learning environments were analyzed. At the design stage, the novels 'Fritz Harbor' and 'Garden of Dawn' were selected, learning goals were set according to the achievement standards of the curriculum, and learning contents and learning activities were sequenced and designed. In the development stage, teaching and learning materials were developed in a module format, implemented to classes, and evaluated. Pre-test and post-tests were conducted to identify the five major competencies such as creativity thinking, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, digital competence. The collected data was verified by paired t-test using SPSS. The results of the study showed statistically significant results in creative thinking, critical thinking, and digital competency.

한국과 미국의 비교를 통해 본 한국적 창의성 구인 연구 (The Components of Korean Creativity from the a Comparison Between the College Students in the US and Korea)

  • This study aimed to develop the components of Korean creativity and to examine differences between responses of Korean and US students. Seven experts were interviewed to establish components of Korean creativity. College students in Korea (1,210) and college students in the US (514) responded to the questionnaire. Analysis was by principal component analysis, independent sample t-test, and qualitative analysis. Results were: (1) five factors of Korean creativity consisted of elaboration, redirection, novelty, understanding-the-new-by-exploring-the-old (UE), and freethinking. (2) Korean students scored higher on elaboration and UE, and American students were better at redirection, novelty, and freethinking. (3) Each of the seven interviewees identified five factors of Korean creativity, but the factors varied according to their fields of expertise.
