The subjects were 517 children in the 5th and 6th grades attending elementary schools located in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Province. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, Pearson's correlation, multiple regressions and SPSS Win 19.0 was used. The results were as follows: (1) School-age children's overt narcissism differed in boys and girls. However, this was not the case for covert narcissism. (2) The overt narcissism of school-age boys and girls was positively correlated with self-control. However covert narcissism was negatively correlated with self-control. (3) The active-responsive and active-restrictive parenting of mothers influenced on the overt narcissism of school-age boys, while the active-responsive parenting of mothers influenced the overt narcissism of school-age girls. Also, the active-responsive and active-restrictive parenting of mothers influenced the covert narcissism of school-age boys, while the active-responsive and passive-permissive parenting of mothers influenced the overt narcissism of school-age girls. (4) The active-restrictive parenting of mothers was the most powerful factor in the overt/covert narcissism of school-age boys and the covert narcissism of school-age girls.

  • This study examined the mediation effects of covert narcissism on the relationship between game addiction and aggression. For this study, 578 middle school boys in Chungcheong areas were included in the analysis. The results are as follows. First, correlation analyses showed that game addiction was positively correlated with covert narcissism and aggression. In addition, covert narcissism showed positive correlation with aggression. Second, step-wise regression analyses were conducted to examine the relative size that sub-factors of game addiction and covert narcissism explained aggression. It could be known that three factors of game addiction(tolerance, disregard of everyday life, damage of control) and two factors of covert narcissism(exploitation/self-centeredness, oversensitivity/vulnerability) showed significant explanatory power for aggression. Third, the Structural Equation Model was designed in which factors of game addiction and covert narcissism with significant explanatory power for aggression were included. Covert narcissism was found to partially mediate the influence of the boys' game addiction on aggression. Finally implications of this study and directions for future research were discussed.

  • Objective: This study aimed to examine the mediating effects of internalized shame and rejection sensitivity in the relationship between covert narcissism and displaced aggression in late childhood. Methods: The participants included 1,060 children (grades 5 and 6; 547 boys and 513 girls) from four elementary schools located in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheong-do. Results: The primary results of this study were as follows. First, child covert narcissism had a direct effect on displaced aggression; children who perceived higher levels of covert narcissism exhibited more displaced aggression. Second, child covert narcissism had an indirect effect on their displaced aggression through internalized shame and rejection sensitivity. Children who perceived higher levels of covert narcissism reported more internalized shame and rejection sensitivity, which led to more displaced aggression. Conclusion: The findings of this research indicate that individual and interpersonal psychological factors need to be considered to explain displaced child aggression. Further, it is important that we help children to gain positive relationships with family and peers. It will help them break away their negative self or others representation, especially their internalized shame and rejection sensitivity.

  • This study aims to explore the relative influences of covert narcissism and evaluative concerns perfectionism on SNS addiction tendency, and the mediating effect of evaluative concerns perfectionism in the influence of covert narcissism on SNS addiction tendency of undergraduates. The results of this study can be summarized in the following. First, control failure and disturbance of adaptive, avoidance of negative emotion, and virtual life orientation and withdrawal were best accounted for by exploitation/self-centeredness. On the other hand, absorption and tolerance was best accounted for by hypersensitivity/vulnerability in undergraduates. Also, SNS addiction tendency was accounted for by only socially prescribed perfectionism of evaluative concerns perfectionism. Second, evaluative concerns perfectionism partially mediated the relations between covert narcissism and absorption and tolerance and between covert narcissism and virtual life orientation and withdrawal, while it didn't mediate the relations between covert narcissism and control failure and disturbance of adaptive and between covert narcissism and avoidance of negative emotion.

  • The purpose of this study aims to analyze the comparative effects of luxury consumption behavior for Chinese consumers. Many research have been conducted in luxury consumption behavior based on perspective of culture, brand, and purchase motives. However, previous studies seem somewhat limited in fully explaining luxury consumption behavior due to less understanding of consumers' psychological trait. In order to fill this gap, this study adopts narcissism (overt narcissism and covert narcissism) to explain consumers' psychological trait. Based on specific psychological trait, consumers would lead to different luxury purchasing behavior depending on purchase motives. Especially, overt narcissism would show high tendency of self-esteem, arrogance, which means that it is closely related to need for uniqueness. Conversely, covert narcissism would show high sensitivity to others, which indicate that it is involved with need for approval. Also, each narcissism would result in different behavior for luxury purchasing based on generation difference (20-30s, vs. 40-50s). The result of this study shows that overt narcissism, covert narcissism, need for uniqueness, need for approval have significant influence on luxury consumption behavior. Especially, overt narcissism has interaction effect with need for uniqueness and young generation (in the 20s, 30s) for luxury purchasing behavior. On the other hand, it was found that covert narcissism has no interaction effect with other variables.

  • This study aims to prove the mediating effect of emotion dysregulation and perceived social support in the relationship between covert narcissism on the relation addiction. The researchers surveyed college students for about 3 weeks through a questionnaire on college campus or with the help of their colleagues and professors. The subjects were 362 students. SPSS, AMOS and Mplus were used for statistical analysis, correlation analysis and structural equation analysis. The conclusions are as follows : First, emotion dysregulation, relation addiction and covert narcissism showed positive correlation and covert narcissism, emotion dysregulation, relation addiction and perceived social support showed a significant negative correlation. Second, it was found that after investigating the mediation effect of emotion dysregulation and perceived social support in the influence between covert narcissism and relation addiction, emotion dysregulation turned out to have a significant mediating effect while perceived social support did not. Third, dual mediating effect was significant in emotion dysregulation and perceived social support in the influence between covert narcissism and relation addiction. These findings proved that covert narcissism, emotion dysregulation, perceived social support are variables that effect relation addiction, and also clarified that emotion dysregulation is a strong mediating variable in the influence between covert narcissism and relation addiction. Finally, when counseling a client with the same tendency as covert narcissism, it gives an opportunity to be aware of the emotional problem and an opportunity to positively perceive its own social resources, so as not to reach interpersonal problems such as relationship addiction pointed out the need for an approach.
