To reach this goal, dual-earner couple's variable of society and population, income for working hours, attitude of sex's role and working hours time were classified as individual variable of study model. In the end of 2000, positive analysis was completed through dual-earner couples' frequencies, percentage, means, paired-samples T Test, one-way ANOVA, duncan test, multiple regression and path analysis to 112 Korean couples in 'Research material for comparative analysis of family's time use in Korea and in the United States' performed by Lee, Ki-young, along with 3 person in the end of 2000. The time of household work performance at home at this stage is about 30 hours. 90% of 30 hours was given by housewife who was working for another job. In the aspect of dual-earner couple's life satisfaction, the life satisfaction is a little over the level of average. In variables couple's life satisfaction, wife's life satisfaction was additionally influenced by variable of wife's profession, age difference of couple, wife's household work time husband's household work time and wife's sex-role attitudes in oder. Husband's life satisfaction was perfectly influenced by his level of education, his household work time and wife's sex-role attitudes.
This study compared the pattern of couples' time-use in rural areas. Wives' and husbands' time spent in household work, leisure, and agricultural labor were compared. In addition, this study examined what factors determine the amount of time of couples spent in such activities. According to the results, in general, the pattern of couple's time-use in rural area was different. Regarding the pattern of time-use, three major results could be mentioned. First of all, husband in rural area spent most agricultural labour time in busy farming season. And then husband spent much time in leisure activities and wife spent in household work. Second, wife spent more time in inactive leisure and husband spent more time in active leisure. Third, husband in rural area spent less time in household work. In particular. they spent less time in female-typed work than male-typed work. To examine what factors determine the extent of time spent in such activities, three theories were employed and tested. According to the results, the models employed in this study were realistic in explaining the amount of time of couple in rural area, and more adjustable wife than husband. In conclusion, a combination of the multidimensional theoretical perspectives used in this study helpfully explains the variation in the amount of time-use of couple in rural area.
The purpose of this study is to examine the differences in perceived time pressure between employed and non-employed married women in Korea. The sample of married couple from the Korean Time Use Survey 2009 (n = 6,948 couple diaries) was used to examined the difference in the level of perceived time pressure over the life cycle of two group. This study also investigated the married women's time use, husband's time use as well as hour of domestic outsourcing and whether such factors are associated with lowering perceived time pressure of married women. Results showed employed wives felt almost 3 times more time pressed than non-employed wives, and the gap mostly remained over different life cycles. Total work hours were associated with increasing the time pressure of both groups of women, while regenerating time was associated with ameliorating time pressure. The result suggests that the time pressure gap between employed and non-employed wives can be partly due to the relative length of total labor hours and regenerating time among the two groups. Ordered logit analysis revealed that husband's paid work hours were not associated with wive's feeling rushed, but husband' unpaid work hours were positively linked with time pressure of their wives. Results indicated if employed or non-employed wives are feeling very busy, there is a high chance that husband might give them some help. We found employed wives spend more hours on housework outsourcing, and purchasing goods for housework was not associated with lowering the feeling of pressure of employed wives. There were both similarity and difference in factors associated with women's feeling pressed among employed and non-employed wives. It implies that social process and it's strategies to alleviate the time pressure can be different by women's employment status.
This study examined the factors that were associated with longitudinal changes for ten years from 2004 to 2014 in time spent on housework by married couples who had a preschooler as their first-born child. It also sought to figure out how much of such temporal changes were attributable to differences in the means on associated factors as well as to differences in the influence or slope of such factors. A total of 9,668 time diaries from the Korean Time Use Survey were used to analyze the influence of couple's weekly work hours, wife's relative income, couple's education and gender role attitudes on the time spent on housework of husbands and wives. Results from descriptive statistics, regression and decomposition analysis were as follows. First, women decreased, while men increased their time doing housework. Second, weekly work hours of husband and wife were related to their time doing housework in every year surveyed. Third, wife's relative earnings and couple's gender role attitudes affected wife's time doing housework more than husbands', whereas couple's education had stronger effects on husbands than wives. However, such influence was apparent on a certain survey year, and then disappeared in another, or became stronger or weaker longitudinally. Fourth, the temporal decrease in wife's housework time and increase in husband's housework time were attributable to social and cultural changes such as reduced working hours, rising female income, higher educational background, and prevalence of egalitarian gender role attitudes. Findings suggest that the trend in spending time on housework is expected to continue, and provide a timely policy implications to facilitate the change.
The purpose of this study is to compare the patterns of time use between Korean and USA families. The data for 353 Seoul-based Korean families with two children living in Seoul and 130 USA families with two children living in the State of Utah were collected using a structured questionnaire and time diary. The major findings were as the following: 1. The Korean couples spent more time at personal care, paid work, and travel than the USA couples did, while the USA couples spent more time at housework and social-cultural activities than the Korean couples did. 2. The Korean wives spent more time doing food and clothing related housework than the USA wives did. Compared with the Korean wives, however, the time spent at house cleaning and management, family care and shopping and home management were longer than USA wives. The time U.S. husbands engaged in housework was much greater than by the Korean husbands. 3. Regardless of sex and school level, the Korean children spent less time at sleeping/rest, housework and socio-cultural activities and more time at eating and learning than those of U.S. These time use patterns of the families in both countries may reflect the differences of the cultural contexts, social norms, life styles, and the degrees of urbanization. To fully explain the findings, further study on the differences in social and cultural factors between the two countries is needed.
This study is purposed to analyse the relationship among the demographic characteristics of rural families and their household work time use and the perception of their quality of life. This study also intended to show the difference of the housold work time use between the rural and the urban area. The household work time use behavior of the urban families were analized in former study by this author, and the results were used in this study for comparison. 200 rural families were sampled which are composed of a couple with two children. These families were then stratified by wife's employment status and age of children. For the statistical analysis of the data, ANOVA, GLM, X\sup 2\-test and etc. were employed.
The purpose of this study is to examine work-life balance by analyzing time schedules of married couple. The 2014 Korea Time Use Survey dataset was used for the analysis. Finally, 6,262 time diaries of 3,131 households were included in the analysis. The study used sequence analysis in particular, by applying the Lesnard(2014)'s dynamic hamming matching (DHM) method, which is useful for the time diary analysis where timing is a key factor. This study explored daily schedules of each man and woman according to 9 types of couple-combined work-schedules, which had been already derived by cluster analysis. The daily schedules were identified according to the activities divided as labor, housework, sleep, self-management, active leisure, passive leisure, and others. Here, time allocation was analyzed through various graphs showing average time amount and modal states by time period. Based on the analysis, it summarized that "long working hours as a main factor of work-life imbalance", "gender inequality of time use", "non-standard hours work impairing quality of life and "poverty of leisure time"as characteristics of work-life imbalance. Finally this study discussed the social policy implications to support work-life balance.
This paper examines the associations of having a helper for domestic work or childcare and time spent on it by couples in South Korea. We use five waves of panel survey data from the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families (KLoWF), which allows longitudinal changes within couples over time that account for potential selection effects and unobserved heterogeneity among individuals. With fixed effects, we find outsourcing is associated with a decrease in wife's time spent on domestic work or childcare by 1 hour per week. However, the decrease is concentrated on the unemployed wife's time, but not employed wife's time. In addition, outsourcing is not a significant factor for husband's time and the husband's share of total contribution. This may be because wives are the main provider of domestic work and childcare in Korea regardless of employment status or having any helper. Due to unequal contributions between husband and wife, using outsourcing also neither alleviates the employed wife's contribution nor changes the husband's contribution. However, the results may be underestimated because there are more common and diverse types of outsourcing in a broad sense, such as going out for dinner, buying prepared food, and using dry cleaning services. We expect future studies to consider more broad types of outsourcing and examine how relations with the couple's time use at home are different by type.

The major findings of this study were summarized as follows: 1) the type of living together ; husband living apart on weekdays, wife living apart on weekdays, wife and child living apart on weekdays, living multi-residence. The majority of them were the type of husband living apart on weekdays. 2) children's care and education were an important factor in a couple's decision 3) weekend couples' psychological costs were such as difficulties of children's care, very fatiguing, shortage of time, and emotional isolation. In spite of all these costs, weekend couples still maintain their separate living arrangements during the week. They felt different kind of psychological costs by the type of living together. 4) psychological rewards were professional success, self-fulfillment, plenty of time to use purposely, and weekenders' relationships to their spouses might seem better than before.
