The purpose of this study was to discuss the cultural competency model which can be applied for all the fields in one's life and to develop the cultural competency of media part for school education, lifelong education, and corporate education. To achieve this purpose, the cultural competency model of media part was developed through literature review, panel workshop with high-performers of media part, and experts verification. In the result of this study, core performance of media part was identified. They were improvement of work efficiency, possibility of creative design, change of media context, increase of understanding and participation to social culture, improvement of relationship skill, increase of chance of self-examination, and self-satisfaction. It was 62 that The cultural competencies which were needed to achieve these core performance, then, finally the definition and standard of behaviors of each competencies were drawn and the cultural competency model was proposed.
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of CSR activities on innovation performance and to identify the mediating role of knowledge sharing and innovation behaviors between CSR activities and innovation performance. In addition, the purpose of this study is to verify the role of sequential mediating effect of knowledge sharing and innovation behavior between CSR activities and innovation performance. Design/methodology/approach - This study collected survey data from 293 organizational members working in Chinese companies. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), reliability analysis, correlation analysis and process macro were used in order to analyze the data. Findings - First, this study verified that CSR activities had a significant positive effect on knowledge sharing, innovation behavior, and innovation performance. Second, it was found that knowledge sharing had a significant positive effect on innovation behavior and innovation performance. Third, it was verified that innovation behavior had a significant positive effect on innovation performance. Fourth, knowledge sharing and innovation behavior had a sequential mediating effect in the relationship between CSR activities and innovation performance. Research implications or Originality - With the uncertainty of the environment and the intensification of competition among companies, more and more companies begin to pay attention to innovation. Different from existing studies, this study focuses on CSR activities, identifies the role of CSR activities, explores ways to guide innovation performance, and verifies the sequential mediating role of knowledge sharing and innovation behavior. Through this measure, the importance of knowledge sharing and innovative behavior among organizational members is emphasized, solutions to strengthen innovation are explored, and theoretical and practical implications are provided for companies.
In the past, organizations tended to focus on physical and technical aspects of managing corporate's information security (IS), rather than the aspect of human resources related to IS. Recently, increasing security incidents caused by organization members raise the issue of how to improve employees' compliance with security policies. This study conducted a field experiment to examine the effect of security awareness training and technical security services on employee's security behaviors. In Study 1, the number of spam opening cases were measured right after the IS training and re-measured three months later. In Study 2, a spam warning message was provided and then the number of employees' spam opening cases were counted to find out the effect of security services. It was found that both the IS training and the technical IS service were effective; they significantly decreased spam opening rates. However, the training effect did not last longer than three months. These findings suggest that organizations need to consider providing regular training programs and supplementary technical services to improve employees' compliance with security policies.
Business models in open market systems targeting smart phone users are determined by several important factors. First, by providing developers efficient technical platforms, it contains a setting for developers to learn, apply and improve the skills relating to the product category easily while they stay beyond a corporate boundary. Second, by the first condition, a huge population of talented developers becomes to join a specific open market where will invite more customers to use their applications. Hence it will attract more and more developer participants who will finally give a rise to a persistent market growth. Third, the evaluation system between platform providers and application producers, and one between application producers and application users may underlie the trust relationships between them. The research conducted a multiple embedded case study to test the success factors of open market based business models. It focused on smart phone game communities that have installed user evaluation, and feedback systems. The user innovation empowerment model within the social game networks has highlighted the theories on the roles and characteristics of lead users, and lead user network behaviors for future NPD participations.
It is more salient in the high-tech industry to cooperate even among competitors in order to promptly respond to the changes in product architecture. In this sense, 'co-opetition,' which is the combination word between 'cooperation' and 'competition,' is the new business term in the strategic management and represents the two concepts "simultaneously co-exist." From this view, this study set up the research purposes as follows: 1) investigating the corporate managerial and technological behavioral characteristics in the co-opetition of the global display industry. 2) verifying the emerging factors during the co-opetition behavior hereafter. 3) suggesting the strategic direction focusing on the co-opetition behavioral characteristics. To this end, this study used co-word network analysis to understand the structure in context level of the co-opetition. In order to understand topics on each network, we clustered the keywords by community detection algorithm based on modularity and labeled the cluster name. The results show that there were increasing patterns of competition rather than cooperation. Especially, the litigations for mutual control against Korean firms much more severely occurred and increased as time passed by. Investigating these network structure in technological evolution perspective, there were already active cooperation and competition among firms in the early 2000s surrounding the issues of OLED-related technology developments. From the middle of the 2000s, firm behaviors have focused on the acceleration of the existing technologies and the development of futuristic display. In other words, there has been competition to take leadership of the innovation in the level of final products such as the TV and smartphone by applying the display panel products. This study will provide not only better understanding on the context of the display industry, but also the analytical framework for the direction of the predictable innovation through analyzing the managerial and technological factors. Also, the methods can support CTOs and practitioners in the technology planning who should consider those factors in the process of decision making related to the strategic technology management and product development.
Among numerous policy influencers' and researchers' advices and policy suggestions, there is little opposition to the proposition that technology is essential to the economic development. The role of technology has never been more emphasized than today in Korea as in any other countries. The effects of the government's innovation policy on corporate R&D activities and more broadly the economic welfare of a whole nation are widely recognized with intuitional and empirical evidence. That is, various R&D incentives reduce the marginal cost of a firm's R&D efforts, inducing as much increase of its R&D investment to result in a better chance to acquire target technology. This paper examines the impact of R&D incentives on the technological outcomes by analyzing individual firms' investment behaviors subject to the government's R&D incentive policies. An econometric model of technological outcomes is estimated on a project level with cross-sectional data. "Probit model" is employed for estimations. Special attention was given to the effectiveness of R&D programs by estimating policy impact by types of investment. The data were collected from 928 different R&D projects completed between 1987 and 1993. With the single equation approach, we were able to find that the structure of investment is a far more significant factor in technological outcomes than the total amount of investment. The analysis also shows that the two types of firms' matching investment, in-kind and cash, do not bear a complementary, but a substitutive relations to each other. It also reconfirms the proposition that R&D incentives increase firm's financial investment. Despite many supportive studies emphasizing the cooperation between innovation performers, it is also found that the larger the number of institutions involved in a project, the less likely it leads to a technological success, And meeting the proposed deadlines without postponing is estimated to be a good barometer to predict the outcome of an R&D project. Also the probabilities of success for major variables are represented for policy implications, after calculating marginal effects.
The purpose of this study is to suggest directions for enhancing competitiveness of corporate management by examining how individual creativity and organizational members' value innovation culture perception affect innovation behavior and knowledge sharing, and how innovation behavior and knowledge sharing affect organizational innovation performance and management outcomes In order to achieve these research objectives, the measurement variables of each variable were extracted through previous research and 423 valid samples were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 statistical package program and LISREL 9.1 to verify a hypothesis. As a result of this study, it was found that the creative thinking skills of the individual creativity, the meaningful tasks of the value innovation culture recognition, and the risk - taking culture have a significant influence on the innovation behavior. Only the meaningful tasks of organizational members' value innovation culture perception affect knowledge sharing. Innovation behavior has a significant effect on knowledge sharing and innovation performance, but not on business outcome. In addition, knowledge sharing has no significant effect on innovation performance but has a significant effect on business performance. Finally, we confirmed that innovation performance has a significant effect on management outcome.
Although accounting is one of the core fields of corporate management, few studies have reported accounting phenomena involving shipping companies. In addition, although financial reporting is very important to shipping companies that use several financial tools such as ship finance and financial lease, it is difficult to identify studies investigating shipping companies' financial reporting, especially their earnings management. The purpose of this study is to analyze accrual earnings management behavior of shipping companies. Companies with high debt ratios and net losses are known to have incentives for earnings management. Due to the nature of the industry, shipping companies have a high debt ratio and often report net losses. Accordingly, shipping companies are expected to engage in substantial earnings management. Based on the analysis of KOSP I companies listed on the Korea Exchange from 2001 to 2020, it was found that shipping companies are engaged in higher levels of earnings management than non-shipping companies. Discretionary accrual was used as a proxy variable for earnings management. Discretionary accrual was measured using the modified Jones model of Dechow et al. (1995) and the performance matched model of Kothari et al.(2005). In this study, significant results were derived by comparatively analyzing the earnings management practices, which is one of the major accounting behaviors of shipping and non-shipping companies. Stakeholders such as external auditors, investors, financial institutions, analysts, and government authorities need to be aware of the earnings management behavior of listed shipping companies during their external audit, financial analysis, and supervision. Finally, listed shipping companies must conduct stricter accounting based on accounting principles.
In order for a strategy established by a company to be implemented efficiently, it must be supported by an appropriate organizational culture. This means that if a firm has an organizational culture suitable for strategy implementation, performance can be enhanced. This study divides competitive strategy into cost leadership strategy and product differentiation strategy, and organizational culture into hierarchical/rational culture and consensual/development culture. Based on 122 questionnaires collected through KOSPI listed manufacturing companies, the results of the empirical analysis on the effect of suitability between competitive strategy and organizational culture on performance by balanced scorecard perspective are summarized as follows. First, it shows that the cost leadership strategy and the hierarchical/rational culture are more fit. Specifically, The high suitability between the cost leadership strategy and the hierarchical/rational culture has a positive effect on the performance of the balanced scorecard perspective(excluding performance by learning and growth perspective). Second, The high suitability between the product differentiation strategy and the consensual/development culture has a positive effect on the performance of the balanced scorecard perspective. The results of this study suggest that it is important to form a corporate culture that can lead to changes in the beliefs and behaviors of organizational members in accordance with the competitive strategy in order to successfully implement the strategies established by the company.
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is a corporate marketing strategy maintaining and managing customers. And with CRM companies maximize the customer's value through a series of processes of new customer retention, VIP customer retention, customer value increase, potential customer activation, and customers for lifetime by collecting the customer information and taking advantage of it effectively. In particular, as the competitive environment is changing rapidly and getting more intense, maintaining the customer retention through customer churn management becomes more important in order to increase the customer value for maximizing the company's profit and to build up the relationship with customers. For example, the financial industry has managed the customer churn with the concept of customer segmentation. Recently the customer retention and churn management is becoming increasingly important in all business fields as well as financial industry since the companies expect the effect of preventing the customer churn by identifying characteristics of customers. However, despite the increasing interest and importance of the management of the customer churn, not many of studies are systematically executed by analyzing the data of customer churn. In this study we analyze the actual data of CRM activities for the customer retention, specifically the data of TV home-shopping. By doing so, we hope to identify the differences of demographic attributes and transaction specific characteristics in consumer behaviors between the churning customer and the retained customers. In addition, we try to find out the variables which can impact the churning of the customers and to predict the churn rate of individual customer through our proposed model of customer churn. In the end, based on our findings we suggest the possible marketing strategies for TV home-shopping companies.
