  • In this study, a polydioxanone (PDO) and poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) sheath-core biphasic monofilament was designed to develop an esophageal stent with improved mechanical properties and controlled biodegradability. The radial force of PDO/PLLA sheath-core stent was 10.24 N, while that of PDO stent was 5.64 N. Deteriorations of tensile strength, elastic modulus and elongation during degradation test were also delayed on PDO/PLLA group. Hyaluronic acid-dopamine conjugate and $BaSO_4/PDO$ conjugate coating layers provided improved tissue adhesion strength and reasonable X-ray contrast, respectively. Taken all together, the sheath-core filaments with tissue adhesive and radiopaque properties will be useful in designing esophageal stents.

  • An analytical approach for the free vibration behavior of a sandwich cylindrical shell with a functionally graded (FG) core is presented. It is considered that the FG distribution is in the direction of thickness. The material properties are temperature-dependent. The sandwich cylindrical shell with a FG core is considered with two cases. In the first model, i.e., Ceramic-FGM-Metal (CFM), the interior layer of the cylindrical shell is rich metal while the exterior layer is rich ceramic and the FG material is located between two layers and for the second model i.e., Metal-FGM-Ceramic (MFC), the material distribution is in reverse order. This study develops Carrera's Unified Formulation (CUF) to analyze sandwich cylindrical shell with an FG core for the first time. Considering the Principle of Virtual Displacements (PVDs) according to the CUF, the dependent boundary conditions and governing equations are obtained. The coupled governing equations are derived using Galerkin's method. In order to validate the present results, comparisons are made with the available solutions in the previous researches. The effects of different geometrical and material parameters on the free vibration behavior of a sandwich cylindrical shell with an FG core are examined.

  • Objectives: This study investigated the ethical awareness regarding artificial intelligence (AI) among dental hygiene students based on core competency levels and proposed a competency-based educational approach to improve AI ethical awareness. Methods: Eighty-six dental hygiene students participated in the study and provided informed consent. The core competency survey tool included innovation, communication, relations, and services. The AI ethical awareness survey tool was divided into eight categories, each with 24 questions: responsibility, stability and reliability, non-discrimination, transparency and explainability, people-centered service, employment, tolerance and limits, and robot rights. Results: The group with high core competency had higher levels of AI ethical awareness (p<0.05), particularly in terms of responsibility, transparency, and people-centered service. The level of AI ethical awareness was significantly correlated with the relationship competency and service competency (p<0.05). Conclusions: These results highlight the association between AI ethical awareness and core competencies. These results suggest that competency-based education in universities is critical for improving AI ethical awareness. Furthermore, we intend to use the findings as preliminary data to suggest a direction for competency-centered education to improve AI ethical awareness.

  • A systematic methodology is developed for the electrofacies determination from wireline log data using multivariate statistical analysis. To consider corresponding contribution of each log and reduce the computational dimension, multivariate logs are transformed into a single variable through principal components analysis. Resultant principal components logs are segmented using the statistical zonation method to enhance the efficiency and quality of the interpreted results. Hierarchical cluster analysis is then used to group the segments into electrofacies. Optimal number of groups is determined on the basis of the ratio of within-group variance to total variance and core data. This technique is applied to the wells in the Korea Continental Shelf. The results of field application demonstrate that the prediction of lithology based on the electrofacies classification matches well to the core and the cutting data with high reliability This methodology for electrofacies classification can be used to define the reservoir characteristics which are helpful to the reservoir management.

  • Three ring type liquid crystalline compounds having 4-alklycyclohexyl group, 1,2-difluorobenzene and phenylisothiocyanate moieties as main skeleton were designed to have negative dielectricity. However, the compounds with 2,3,2'-trifluoro-3'-isothiocyanated biphenylcyclohexane core did not exhibit the nematic liquid crystalline phase because of two conformers by interaction of isothiocyanate and adjacent fluorine atoms. Also, 4-alkyl-2,2',3'-trifluoro-3-isothiocyanated biphenylcyclohexane core was designed expecting to have uniform conformers of isothiocyanate group. In the course of developing polyimides for VA mode LCD, we synthesized alkyl-3,5-diaminobenzene efficiently with various length of alkyl chains from commercially available di-t-butyl malonate and 3,5-dinitrobenzoyl chloride as starting material.

  • Ti(CN)-0.3mole% $Mo_2C$ ceramics were prepared by pressureless sintering. $Mo_2C$ dissolved in Ti(CN) more easily in a nitrogen environment than in the other environment because nitrogen forced Mo to form a solid solution, (Ti, No)(C, N). A "core-rim" structure developed within the grains. The boundary between the "core" and the rim was delineated by thermal etching in the sample with more than 2 mole% $Mo_2C$. The rim thickness and the grain size decreased as the $Mo_2C$ content increased. The hardness and the flexural strength showed maxima of 18.2 GPa and 1.23 GPa, respectively when the $Mo_2C$ content was 2 mole%. The post-sintering heat treatments improved the properties.oved the properties.

  • We describe newly developed software named KPACK for relativistic electronic structure computation of molecules containing heavy elements that enables the two-component ab initio calculations in Kramers restricted and unrestricted formalisms in the framework of the relativistic effective core potential (RECP). The spin-orbit coupling as relativistic effect enters into the calculation at the Hartree-Fock (HF) stage and hence, is treated in a variational manner to generate two-component molecular spinors as one-electron wavefunctions for use in the correlated methods. As correlated methods, KPACK currently provides the two-component second-order M${\o}$ller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2), configuration interaction (CI) and complete-active-space self-consistent field (CASSCF) methods. Test calculations were performed for the ground states of group-14 elements, for which the spin-orbit coupling greatly influences the determination of term symbols. A categorization of three procedures is suggested for the two-component methods on the basis of spin-orbit coupling manifested in the HF level.

  • Lately, high production rate welding processes for Al alloys, which are used as LNG FPSO cargo containment system material, have been developed to overcome the limit of installation and high rework rates. In particular, plasma-metal inert gas (MIG) hybrid (PMH) welding can be used to obtain a higher deposition rate and lower porosity, while facilitating a cleaning effect by preheating and post heating the wire and the base metal. However, an asymmetric undercut and a black-colored deposit are created on the surface of PMH weld in Al alloys. For controlling the surface defect formation, the wire feeding speed and nozzle diameter in the PMH weld was investigated through arc phenomena with high-speed imaging and metallurgical analysis.

  • Purpose: This study describes the effects of kicking a ball training on balance and upper limb function in chronic hemiplegia. Methods: Thirty chronic stroke patients were randomly selected; Kicking a ball (n=10), Treadmill gait (n=10), Stepping on the ground group (n=10). The Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) for balance and Foot Scan for weight distribution. Upper limb function was measured by the Manal Function Test (MFT). This treatment was performed five times a week for a total of 4 weeks. Results: Kicking group was significantly increased in SPPB (p<0.05) and MFT (p<0.05) between pretest vs post test and pretest vs follow-up. Conclusion: Kicking a ball was effective for improving weight acceptance on the paretic leg, balance and upper limb function. However, In terms of balance, the core stabilization that affected the upper extremity function was not evaluated. Thus, additional research may help determine correlation between core stability and upper limb function to improve balance.

  • The good features of the analytic function expansion nodal (AFEN) method are utilized to develop a practical scheme jot the multigroup diffusion problems, in combination with the polynomial expansion nodal (PEN) method. The thermal group fluxes exhibiting strong gradients are solved by the AFEN method[1-6], while the fast group fluxes that are smoother than the thermal group fuzes are solved by the PEN method[7-9]. The scheme is applied to a MOX-fuel loaded core with good results.
