Classification of White Blood Cell Using Adaptive Active Contour

  • The differential white blood cell count plays an important role in the diagnosis of different diseases. It is a tedious task to count these classes of cell manually. An automatic counter using computer vision helps to perform this medical test rapidly and accurately. Most commercial-available automatic white blood cell analysis composed mainly 3 steps including segmentation, feature extraction and classification. In this paper we concentrate on the first step in automatic white-blood-cell analysis by proposing a segmentation scheme that utilizes a benefit of active contour. Specifically, the binary image is obtained by thresolding of the input blood smear image. The initial shape of active is then placed roughly inside the white blood cell and allowed to grow to fit the shape of individual white blood cell. The white blood cell is then separated using the extracted contour. The force that drives the active contour is the combination of gradient vector flow force and balloon force. Our purposed technique can handle very promising to separate the remaining red blood cells.

화방 정찰 체계에서의 다수의 이동 로봇을 위한 시간 효율적인 경로 계획 알고리즘에 대한 연구 (Time-Efficient Trajectory Planning Algorithms for Multiple Mobile Robots in Nuclear/Chemical Reconnaissance System)

  • Since nuclear and chemical materials could damage people and disturb battlefield missions in a wide region, nuclear/chemical reconnaissance systems utilizing multiple mobile robots are highly desirable for rapid and safe reconnaissance. In this paper, we design a nuclear/chemical reconnaissance system including mobile robots. Also we propose time-efficient trajectory planning algorithms using grid coverage and contour finding methods for reconnaissance operation. For grid coverage, we performed in analysis on time consumption for various trajectory patterns generated by straight lines and arcs. We proposed BCF (Bounded Contour Finding) and BCFEP (Bounded Contour Finding with Ellipse Prediction) algorithms for contour finding. With these grid coverage and contour finding algorithms, we suggest trajectory planning algorithms for single, two or four mobile robots. Various simulations reveal that the proposed algorithms improve time-efficiency in nuclear/chemical reconnaissance missions in the given area. Also we conduct basic experiments using a commercial mobile robot and verify the time efficiency of the proposed contour finding algorithms.

  • In order to improve automobile maneuverability and tire durability, it is very important for one to determine a suitable sidewall contour producing the ideal tension and strain-energy distributions. In order to determine such a sidewall contour, one must apply multi-objective optimization technique. The optimization problem of tire carcass contour involves several objective functions. Hence, we execute the tire contour optimization for improving the maneuverability and the tire durability using satisficing trade-off method. And, the tire optimization also requires long cup time for the sensitivity analysis. In order to resolve this numerical difficulty, we apply neural network algorithm.

  • 수치지형모형(數値地形模型)(Digital Terrain Model)을 제작(製作)하는데 있어서 보다 더 정확(正確)한 지형정보(地形情報)의 획득방법(獲得方法)이 매우 큰 비중을 차지하고 있다. 본(本) 논문(論文)은 지형정보(地形情報)를 획득(獲得)하는 방법(方法)의 하나인 밀도증가식(密度增加式) 표본추출방법(標本抽出方法)의 정확성(正確性) 분석(分析)에 그 목적(目的)을 두었다. 특히, 정확성(正確性) 분석(分析)에 있어서는 아래와 같은 사항(事項)에 대(對)해 비교분석(比較分析)하였다. - 도화기(圖化機)에 의해 작도된 종래(從來)의 등고선(等高線)(Conventional Contourlines)과 밀도증가식(密度增加式) 표본추출방법(標本抽出方法)을 이용(利用)하여 작도(作圖)한 수치등고선(數値等高線)(Digital Contourlines)과의 위치오차(位置誤差)에 대(對)한 비교분석(比較分析) - 밀도증가식(密度增加式) 표본추출방법(標本抽出方法)의 적용(適用)에 따른 보간점(補間點)에 대(對)한 표고오차(標高誤差)의 분석(分析) 위의 수치시험(數値試驗)을 위하여 등고선(等高線)의 자동작도(自動作圖)에 관한 전산(電算)프로그램을 작성(作成)했다. 시험결과(試驗結果)와 시산치(試算値)와 추출조건(抽出條件)은 정확도(正確度)와 밀접(密接)한 관계를 가지며, 특히 시산치(試算値) 1.0 m이고, 표준형(標準形)인 추출조건(抽出條件)에서는 종래(從來)의 등고선(等高線)과 거의 일치(一致)함을 알 수 있었다.

전자 스페클 패턴 간섭법을 이용한 형상 측정에 관한 연구 (A Study on Shape Measurement by Using Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry)

  • Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) has been used to measure surface deformations of engineering components and materials in industrial areas. ESPI, a non-contact and non-destructive technique, is capable of providing full-field results with high spatial resolution and high speed. One of the important application using electronic speckle pattern interferometry is electronic speckle contouring of a diffused object for 3-D shape analysis and topography measurement. Generally the electronic speckle contouring is suitable for providing measurement range from millimeters to several centimeters. In this study, we introduce the contouring method by modified dual-beam speckle pattern interferometer and the shift of the two illumination beams through optical fiber in order to obtain the contour fringe patterns. We also describe formation process of depth contour fringes and grid contour fringes by shifting direction of the two illumination beams. Before the experiments, we performed the geometric analysis for dual-beam-shifted ESPI contouring, and then, the electronic speckle contouring experiment with various specimens. For quantitative analysis of the contour fringes, we used 4-frame phase shifting method with PZT Finally, good agreement between the geometric analysis and experimetal results is obtained.

구관조 음성모방의 음향학적 분석을 통한 음성인식에 대한 고찰 (The Study of Voice Perception with Formant Analysis of Two Myna Bird's Voice Imitation)

  • This study was an attempt to determine acoustic characteristics in myna bird's notes. Two myna birds' sounds imitating a normal male voice in his late 20's were sampled and analyzed. The analyses included the mean values of F1, F2, F3 and pitch contours. The results were as follows; First, there was a significan difference in the mean values of F1, F2, and F3 in isolatd vowel /a/ and /i/ between the myna birds' sounds and the human voice. However, there was no apparent difference in pitch contour of their formants. Second, there was a difference in pitch contour of their formants in their sentence ('hn-nyung-ha-se-yo?' meaning 'How are you?') production. Namely, the myna birds' pitch contour was located higher than that of the human's.

  • In the present study a semi-automatic mesh generation program has been developed by using DXF file containing contour line data. The program consists of DXF file reader and mapping algorithm. Pre-generated 2-D planar mesh points are to be mapped one by one onto triangular surface whose three vertices are three nearest contour points surrounding the mapping point. The present program has been successfully tested for mesh generations for the road tunnel ventilation analysis and analysis of lava movement in mountain area.

  • Control of tool-environment interaction force to comply the robot system to an environment is of vital in many automated process. This paper presents the implementation of an adaptive force control with commercial robot system in two dimensional contour following task. A model reference adaptive control system, combined with the linear compensators, is implemented. That is, a use of adaptive control is to provide an auxiliary control system so that the contour following performance can be improved from that of using linear control system only. Hyperstability is used to derive the adaptive control law. Experimental verification of the proposed control system is obtained using PUMA 560 robot system. Data obtained experimentally shows that the use of additional adaptive control system improves the contour following performance about 30% in RMS contact force errors upon that of the system controlled by the linear compensators only.

A Contour Descriptors-Based Generalized Scheme for Handwritten Odia Numerals Recognition

  • In this paper, we propose a novel feature for recognizing handwritten Odia numerals. By using polygonal approximation, each numeral is segmented into segments of equal pixel counts where the centroid of the character is kept as the origin. Three primitive contour features namely, distance (l), angle (${\theta}$), and arc-tochord ratio (r), are extracted from these segments. These features are used in a neural classifier so that the numerals are recognized. Other existing features are also considered for being recognized in the neural classifier, in order to perform a comparative analysis. We carried out a simulation on a large data set and conducted a comparative analysis with other features with respect to recognition accuracy and time requirements. Furthermore, we also applied the feature to the numeral recognition of two other languages-Bangla and English. In general, we observed that our proposed contour features outperform other schemes.

Improvement of Contour Fringes by using Addition of Incremental Images

  • Electronic speckle contouring(ESC) based on electronic speckle pattern interferometry is the optical method for measuring object shape by using fringe-projection techniques. This method has the advantages of being non-contact, non-destructive and a whole-field measurement of the surface under investigation. Fringes in ESC represent the difference in depth along the view direction between the master wavefront and the test component. The contour maps of three-dimensional diffuse objects can be obtained by small shifts of optical fiber carrying the dual-object-beams and 4-frame phase shifting. In this study we proposed the contouring method by shifting the collimated illumination beams through optical fiber in order to obtain the contour fringe patterns. And also, we performed the addition of incremental images through the geometrical analysis to obtain the contour fringe interval when we performed the incremental addition of images and experiments based on this method. We obtained both quantitative increment without decorrelation effect and qualitative improvement by reducing the noise of contour fringes.
