  • The main objective of this study is to provide data on high strength concrete columns subjected to axial load and biaxial bending. For the design of biaxial bending, the approximate method (Bresler load contour method, PCA load contour method) is presented in ACI code. The present study investigate whether the methods are valid in high strength concrete and compare analysis results(by FEM method) with experimental results. Also, this study examines whether statics method and failure surface equation(by Hsu) are adequate.

  • The contour method is based on the elastic superposition principle, and relies on deformations that occur when a residually stressed part is cut along a plane. During the cut, the part is constrained at a location along the cut so that deformations are restrained as much as possible. The displacement is applied to an elastic FE model of the half. When plasticity is involved in the relaxation process, the superposition principle is no longer valid, and stress error in the resulting measurement of residual stress would be caused. Residual stress states in a laser peened Ti-6Al-4V strip were taken for the FE simulation.

  • Today, tire performance becomes better as vehicle performance increases. Driviability, endurance, comfortability, noise, and antiwear performance is influenced by tire contour. Tire design method is developed by high-tech engineering technology. Among theses studies, tire performance improvement through tire contour optimization is performed by many vehicle investigator. Therefore, in the present study, an optimum contour design system satisfying the tire performance requirements is constructed by regression analysis and genetic algorithm by using design of experiments.

F0 Contour Model based on Temporal Decomposition (시간적 분해에 기반한 F0 궤적 모델에 관한 연구)

  • This paper proposes a new F0 contour model for intonation control in speech synthesis. We assume that the F0 contour of an utterance can be described using a sequence of time-overlapping events, which determine the fluctuation of a given F0 contour, described by asymmetric Gaussian functions. In addition, We propose a parameter estimation algorithm for the proposed model. The proposed model is not developed with a particular phonological theory in mind, and can be used in both F0 contour analysis and synthesis. For testing our F0 model, we collected 500 sentences from various genres and built a corresponding speech corpus uttered by a professional female announcer. As n result of F0 resynthesis experiment using the proposed model, the RMSE was 7.87Hz for given speech corpus.

  • The automated segmentation technique of cell region in Bio Images helps biologists understand complex functions of cells. It is mightly important in that it can process the analysis of cells automatically which has been done manually before. The conventional methods for segmentation of cell and nuclei from multi-channel images consist of two steps. In the first step nuclei are extracted from DNA channel, and used as initial contour for the second step. In the second step cytoplasm are segmented from Actin channel by using Active Contour model based on intensity. However, conventional studies have some limitation that they let the cell segmentation performance fall by not considering inhomogeneous intensity problem in cell images. Therefore, the paper consider correlation between DNA and Actin channel, and then proposes the preprocessing algorithm by which the brightness of cell inside in Actin channel can be compensated homogeneously by using DNA channel information. Experiment result show that the proposed preprocessing method improves the cell segmentation performance compared to the conventional method.

  • In the present study a mesh generation program has been developed by using DXF file. The program consists of DXF file reading and mapping algorithm, which projects the 2-D mesh point onto the triangular surface constructed by nearest three points. The present program has been tested for mesh generations for the road tunnel ventilation analysis and analysis of lava movement in mountain area.

  • Geostatistical methods were used for the groundwater flow analysis on the ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ tunnel area. Linear regression analysis shows that the topographic elevation and ground water level of this area have very high correlation. Groundwater-level contour maps produced by ordinary kriging and cokriging have little differences in mountain areas. But, comparing two maps on the basis of an elevation contour map, a groundwater-level contour map using cokring is more accurate. Analyzing the groundwater flow on two groundwater-level contour maps, the groundwater of study area flows from the north-west mountain areas to near valleys, and from the peak of the mountain to outside areas. In the design steps, the groundwater-level distribution is reasonably considered in the tunnel construction area by cokriging approach. And, geostatistics will provide quantitative information in the unknown groundwatrer-level area.

  • Geostatistical methods were used for the groundwater flow analysis in a heterogeneous anisotropic aquifer. This study area is located at Sonbul-myeon in Hampyong-gun of Cheonnam Province which is a hydrogeological project area of KORES(Korea Resources Cooperation). Linear regression analysis shows that the topographic elevation and groundwater level of this area have very high correlation. Groundwater-level contour maps produced by ordinary kriging and cokringing have large differences in mountain areas, but small differences in hill and plain areas near the West Sea. Comparing two maps on the basis of an elevation contour map, a groundwater-level contour map using cokriging is more accurate. Analyzing the groundwater flow on two groundwater-level contour maps, the groundwater of study area flows from the high mountain areas to the plain areas near the West Sea. To verify the enffectiveness of geostatistical methods for the groundwater flow analysis in a heterogeneous anisotropic aquifer, the flow directions of groundwater were measured at two groundwater boreholes by a groundwater flowmeter system(model 200 $GeoFlo^{R}$). The measured flow directions of groundwater almost accord with those estimated on two groundwater-level contour maps produced by geostatistical methods.

A Study on Preferred Morphologic Feature and Proportion of Facial Aesthetic Subunit by Korean General Public (일반인이 선호하는 얼굴의 미적 단위별 형태와 비율 연구)

  • Purpose: As the influence of mass media increases, the general standard of attractiveness or beauty of a face also changes. The primary purpose of the study is to find out the factors of the attractive and beautiful face recognized by public. Methods: We picked out standard model photography and operated with Adobe$^{(R)}$ Photoshop$^{(R)}$ and Monariza$^{(R)}$ virtual plastic surgery program. The contour of face, eye, nose, forehead, zygoma, chin and proportion of upper, middle, lower face were changed. The interview survey was conducted through structured standard photo for 310 respondents. That was utilized in the final analysis. Multiple regression analysis was executed by SPSS 12.0. It was used to deal with statistical data and all the other necessary analysis. Results: According to general characteristics of the respondents, many differences were found in preferred face and facial aesthetic subunits. The younger generation preferred the lozenge and inverted triangle shape contour. The respondents over 40 of age preferred the egg shape contour. In chin and zygoma contour, the respondents at the age of 20 preferred distinctly small chin and relatively small lower face. On the other hand, the respondents over 40 of age preferred the wide zygoma relatively. In the proportion of upper, middle, lower face, 51.0% of respondents answered 1 : 1 : 1. If they want to have an aesthetic operation, they preferred protruding forehead. Also they preferred the small chin and V-shaped chin in frontal view. Conclusion: Many respondents preferred to have a plastic surgery for the better facial subunit. The statistical evidence from this study suggests that the harmony and balance of facial aesthetic subunits make attractive and beautiful face.

  • For quantitative analysis of the cardiac diseases. it is necessary to segment the left-ventricle (LY) in MR (Magnetic Resonance) cardiac images. Snake or active contour model has been used to segment LV boundary. However, the contour of the LV front these models may not converge to the desirable one because the contour may fall into local minimum value due to image artifact inside of the LY Therefore, in this paper, we Propose the Preprocessing method using k-means clustering and merging algorithms that can improve the performance of the active contour model. We verified that our proposed algorithm overcomes local minimum convergence problem by experiment results.
