  • This paper presents quality and measure controls of Plastic Board Drains(PBD) for improvement of soft ground. Laboratory and field tests has been carried out to evaluate the quality of PBD focussing on : discharge capacity of flow area; permeability of filter sleeve; migration of fine particles; deformed shape of PBD; consolidation of clay in the close vicinity of PBD; tensile strength of PBD; long-term consolidation behavior of clay-PBD. Test results show that the quality of PBD is sufficient to perform the improvement of soft silty and clayey ground. But, geotechnical engineer must make efforts minimizings of PBD damage and ground disturbance, continuity of drainage system during construction. Adequate monitoring system should apply at ground focussing on number, location, and accuracy of geotechnical instrumentation, measurement and evaluation of data for ground behaviour.

  • Transient thermal analysis simulations are carried out using a modeling program to understand the human body model HBM ESD. The devices were simulated a one-dimensional device subjected to ESD stress by solving Poison's equation, the continuity equation, and heat flow equation. A ramp rise with peak ESD voltage during rise time is applied to the device under test and then discharged exponentially through the device. LDD and NMOS structures were studied to evaluate ESD performance, snap back voltages, device heating. Junction heating results in the necessity for increased electron concentration in the space charge region to carry the current by the ESD HBM circuit. The doping profile adihacent to junction determines the amount of charge density and magnitude of the electric field, potential drop, and device heating. Shallow slopes of LDD tend to collect the negative charge and higher potential drops and device heating.

  • The specimens with three discontinuities have been tested in uniaxial compression. The geometry of discontinuities is changed by three different parameters: flaw inclination angle, continuity, and spacing. From the tips of the discontinuities wing and secondary cracks are observed. Wing cracks initially propagate curvilinear direction and follow loading direction after some distance from the tip of the discontinuities. Two different types of secondary cracks have been observed from the study: quasi-coplanar secondary cracks and oblique secondary cracks. From the test nine different types of coalescence are observed and they show a correlation with flaw angle and ligament angle. It is attempted to simulate the observed results by using FROCK(Fractured ROCK). FROCK is a code based on the hybridized DDM(Displacement Discontinuities Method) . It is shown that FROCK has quite potential of modeling of rock fracture processes.

  • Large panel building systems are composed of vertical wall panels which support horizontal roof and floor panels to form a box like structure. The simplecity of the connections, which makes precast concrete economically viable, causes a lack of continuity in stiffness, strength and ductility. This precast concrete large panel systems typically have weak connection regions. Three types of 2-story full-scale precast concrete subassemblages were tested under reversed cyclic loading. The seismic resistance capacity and failure mode of each system are compared in connection with the characteristics of joint connection details.

  • A virtual reality technology for multipurpose numerical simulation is developed to reproduce and investigate a variety of ocean environmental problems in a 3D-Numerical Wave Tank. The governing equations for solving incompressible fluid motion are Navier-Stokes equation and continuity equation, and the Marker-Density function technique is adopted to implement the fully-nonlinear free-surface kinematic condition. The marine environmental situations, i.e. waves, currents, wind, etc., are reproduced by use of multi-segmented wavemaker on the basis of the so-called "snake-principle". In this paper, some numerical reproduction techniques for regular and irregular waves, multi-directional waves, Bull's-eye wave, wave-current, and solitary wave are presented, and a model test in motion with large amplitude of roll angle is conducted in the developed 3D-NWT, using a overlaid grid system.

  • The mathematical properties of the sequentially operated systems are often described by integral equations. Reservoir system of a product and sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) are typical examples of sequentially operated systems. When the underlying random quantities follow Erlang distribution, a systematic method was developed to solve the integral equations. We extend the method to the cases having accrual functions of more general types. The solutions of the integral equations are represented as a linear combination of distribution functions, and the coefficients of the linear combination are obtained by solving linear system derived from the continuity condition of the solutions.

  • The seismic performance of precast concrete panel structures tested previously has been evaluated in this paper. Hysteretic curves of test specimens are idealized to elasto-plastic curves to get reliable yielding and ultimate displacements. For the idealized curves, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of specimens have been evaluated using a few guide lines. In addition, the strength capacity of specimens is checked for the strength demand caused by the design earthquake load including overturning moment effects. The result shows while the strength of specimen with joint box for vertical continuity is little bit lower than that of specimen connected by welding, the ductility of the former is higher than that of the latter. The energy dissipation ratios of PC specimens are ranged from 83% to 96% of that of Re specimen and the average of those are shown 90%.

  • A novel nodal method is developed for the two-dimensional multi-group diffusion equations based on the Spectral-Galerkin approach. In this study, the nodal diffusion equations with Robin boundary condition are reformulated in a weak (variational) form, which is then approximated spatially by choosing appropriate basis functions. For the nodal coupling relations between the neighbouring nodes, the continuity conditions of partial currents are utilized. The resulting discrete systems with sparse structured matrices are solved by the Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient Method (PCG) and sweeping technique. The method is validated on two test problems.

  • The current article manages with new generalization of Post-Widder operators preserving constant function and other test functions in Bohmann-Korovkin sense and studies the approximation properties via different estimation tools like modulus of continuity and approximation in weighted spaces. The viability of the recently modified operators as per classical Post-Widder operators is introduced in specific faculties also. Numerical examples are additionally introduced to verify our theortical results. In second last section we introduce Grüss-Voronovskaya results and in last section, we show the better approximation our new modified operators via graphical exmaples using Mathematica.
