Continuing Education for the Library and Information Professionals : Present Situation and Need Assessment (문헌정보전문직을 위한 계속교육에 관한 연구 : 현황과 요구분석)

  • To investigate the present states and analyze the need of continuing education, a survey was done to the library and information professionals. Based on the personal membership file of the Korean Library Association, 292 members were selected using $25\%$ systematic sampling method. Questionnaires were mailed to them and $80\%$ returned. Of the total respondents. $90\%$ want to participate continuing education, however only $50\%$have a formal continuing education experience during last 3 years. Informal educational efforts are also weak and show much individual differences. $67\%$ of the libraries encourage continuing education but only $25\%$ of the respondents were provided with time and money for participation. The most favored mode of the continuing education Is one week course specialized In particular topic$(31.1\%)$ or area$(25.5\%)$. New methods, such as CD-ROM. online etc. were also preferred. Respondents regard professional association, society, and the library Information science department of university as desirable leading organization for continuing education. Among the 16 possible topics to be educated, respondents showed substantially higher Interest(more than $50\%$) In 5topics, and there were significant need differences In 7 topics among groups divided by library type.

Current status of continuing education and related factors in dental hygienists (치과위생사의 보수교육 이수 현황 및 관련 요인)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to identify the factors related to the completion status of continuing education and to help develop professional ability by presenting improvement directions. Methods: A questionnaire survey involving 500 dental hygienists working at 155 dental clinics in Gwang-ju was conducted between June 19 and July 29, 2017. Descriptive analysis, chi-square tests, and t-tests were conducted using Statistical Package for Social Sciences Version 21.0 for Windows. Finally, to investigate the factors related to the completion of continuing education, logistic regression analysis was performed. Results: The odds ratio (OR) was higher in the group with more than 16 years of total work carrier (OR=3.40, 95% confidence interval (CI)=1.22-9.45) than that in the group with 1-5 years of work carrier. Groups receiving information from associations (OR=5.35, 95% CI=1.74-16.40), groups that directly search for information (OR=6.53, 95% CI=1.84-23.12), and groups receiving information from colleagues (OR=3.55, 95% CI=1.17-10.77) had higher ORs than groups receiving no information. The OR was higher in the group receiving cost support for participation (OR=2.20, 95% CI=1.06-4.55) than the group receiving no support. Regarding total education completion status in 2012-2014, groups that completed grades 1-7 (OR=2.51, 95% CI=1.35-4.64) and those that completed grade 8 or higher (OR=14.37, 95% CI=7.68-26.89) had higher ORs than groups who received no education. Conclusions: The rate of completion of continuing education can be increased by reviewing the course contents, publicity activities, and cost of continuing education.

A Study of Trends in Continuing Education Published in the Korean Nurse (간호협회지를 통해 본 보수교육의 역사적 경향 1962년 ~ 1995년)

  • This historical research was conducted to analyze and categorize the titles which were presented in the journal, The Korean Nurse, from August 1962 to October 1995. Titles which were published with the purpose of educating graduate nurses and to update 0 their nursing knowledge to improve professional practice were included. There were 348 articles published from the beginning of publication in August, 1962 to October, 1995. All of the journals were reviewed except nine missing journals which were not available in any library. According to the characteristics of the articles in the periodical, the articles were divided into three periods. In each of the three peroids there were five categories: Subject, Clinical Practice, Fundamentals of Nursing Science, Nursing Administration, Others. These categories were adopted from Kim's(1994) division system which was developed to analyze nurse's insurance education program. The special feature peroid was from August, 1962 to December, 1974. In this period the articles were presented in an unorganized manner in the area of special feature or main issue. The largest area was the subject category(44%). The second largest area wes the fundamental of nursing science category(31%). From May, 1975 to December, 1977, the articles with the educational purposes were published in a designated area called continuing education. This period was labelled as the continuing education period. Among the published articles in this period, 45% focused on the subject category and 45% on the fundamentals of nursing science category. In this period the articles were focusing on nurses 'work in specific areas such as industry, nurses' aid schools, and nursing administration, articles on physical assessment first started to appear. The written continuing education period was from January 1978 to October, 1995. All the educational articles published in this area were analyzed and categorized into five areas as for the other periods. 48% of the articles focused on the subject category. In the mid-eighties, the term nurse specialist first.appeared and ten years later in 1990, the titles were subdivided into more specific titles, such as, home nursing, industrial nursing, emergency nursing, 23% were in the fundamental nursing science category and they dealt with nursing process, nursing theories, theory development. For the content analysis, three articles, one from each period, dealing with cardiovscular diseases were selected for comparsion. First, the special feature period, the title of the article was on diet therapy for cardiovascular disease patients, but instead the content was about rest, hygiene, medication, observation. They recommended rings to prevent bed sores, which is now considered as a cause for bed sores. In the continuing education period, the content was more focused on rehabilitation rather than general nursing .care. It became more specific, systematic, and organized compared with the special feature period. In the written continuing education period, the focus was on rehabilitation, not broadly, but very specifically on exercise. The further research on the content analysis is recommended along with a comparison of the trends in the Journal of Nurses Academic Society.

  • Government came to enforce long-term care insurance system in preparation for the rapid aging society. Whether this system is successful or not depends on the professionalism of long-term care-givers who are professional population in charge of care service. Currently in the early stage of enforcement, such problems as a race cutting fee resulted from numerical increase of educational facilities, insolvent operation, degradation of education level resulted from unprofessional instructor, are pointed out. As a mean of manpower-training on long-term care insurance system, this study is to research public-private-university network model of the Academy of Continuing Education attached to Ko Sin University which is the case of Yong Do Gu Busan city. Networking between the vision and development strategy of Yong Do Gu on continuing education city, education system on community manpower-training supported by Ko Sin University, and service field of welfare for the elderly can not only contribute to the professionalism of long-term care-givers but also play an ideal role in manpower-utilization and arrangement of community. Through this networking, high quality of education level and circumstance, using the existing infra, manpower-training and utilization for continuing education of Yong Do Gu can be accomplished. Additionally, the connection with facilities related with welfare for the elderly can contribute to professionalism and accountability of manpower-networking.

A Fundamental Study on K-12 Design Education Emphasizing 'Design Based Education' (초.중등 디자인교육에 대한 기초연구 :‘디자인을 기초로 한 교육’을 중심으로)

  • Design education has been developed on the basis of higher education and continuing education for professional designers. This professional education has been regarded as a top priority in order to establish the discipline of design and status of designers in the society for the birth of design as a new discipline. Education of designers, however, should not be limited within the professional education led by higher education system. In order to educate designers having the competitiveness for the 21st century, it is necessary to expand the range of design education from higher education to general education by developing new programs. This paper is designed to investigate the importance and characteristics of 'Design-Based Education' by emphasizing design educational methods which are applied to the general education. As case studies, the current educational situations of England and United States of America are analyzed on the basis of their efforts and children's education programs. This study will provide the fundamental guideline for the development of K-12 design education in Korea.

Structural Components Of The Digital Competence Of The Master Of Production Training Of The Agricultural Profile

  • With the rapid development and introduction of digital technologies, both everyday human life and technological processes of any production are changing, which stimulates the transformation of the economy and education. Digital technologies are not only a tool, but also a living environment of modern human, which opens up new opportunities: learning at any convenient time, continuing education, the ability to form individual educational learning trajectories and more. However, the digital environment requires teachers to take a modern approach to the organization of the educational process, the formation of new skills and abilities to work in the digital educational environment. As a result of the study, it was found that the system of vocational education should provide training for masters of industrial training who have a high level of digital competence. The purpose of the article is to single out, theoretically substantiate and determine the level of formation of structural components of digital competence of future masters of agricultural training. The structure of digital competence of agricultural master was analyzed on the basis of domestic and foreign scientists researches. Systematized research results indicate that digital competence consists of four components: motivational-value (combination of internal and external motives for the use of digital technologies in future professional activities), cognitive (a set of theoretical knowledge, skills and abilities of future master of industrial training to effectively build educational process with the use of digital technologies), activity-professional (expansion and deepening of knowledge, skills, necessary skills for effective implementation of digital technologies in the educational process) and evaluative-reflexive (ability to analyze and self-analyze own activities and its results taking into account professional characteristics, self-realization in professional activities through the use of digital technologies). These components are comparable with the indicators that describe the knowledge, skills and abilities needed by the future master of industrial training to organize the modern educational process. A questionnaire was conducted to determine the levels of this competence formation, which allows us to conclude that it is necessary to increase the level of formation of all components of digital competence of future masters of industrial training in agriculture. The results of the study can be used as a basis for the development of disciplines that form the special competencies of masters of industrial training in agriculture and programs of advanced training of teachers.

A Comparative Study on Awareness of Review Work of Medical Institutions and Review Institutions - Focusing on Insurance Claim Officers at General Hospitals and Review Officers at Health Insurance Review Agency - (의료기관과 심사기관의 심사업무인식도 비교연구 - 종합병원 청구직원과 건강보험심사평가원심사직원을 중심으로 -)

  • This study conducted a comparative analysis of awareness level of review standards, continuing education, and awareness about the need for speciality and educational courses in order to improve quality of Korean health insurance review work and to present directions for policies of personnel development and continuing education to smoothly perform hospital's insurance claim work and Agency's review work. The analysis unit of the study is individuals, and survey was conducted among hospital's claim officers and Agency' review officers by distributing questionnaires. The major results of the study are as follows: First, it is found that hospital's claim officers and Agency's review officers have conflicting awareness about review standards; more Agency's review officers think that current review standards are universal and reasonable, while more hospital's claim officers believe that they need to be revised. Especially, hospital's claim officers replied that it is possible that review results can differ according to government's policies. Second, there is no significant difference between the two groups in the opinion that there are individual differences in awareness level of review standard. In particular, both groups share the opinion that review results can differ according to officer's interpretation of review standards. Third, Both review officer groups feel the need for further training and continuing education. Fourth, there is no difference between the two groups in the opinion that both groups members should be educated in review related educational institutions. However, while 81.5% of Agency's review officers the education should be offered at the Agency, only 45.2% of hospital's claim officers agreed to it. Fifth, both review personnel do not show any difference in awareness of needed experience to successfully perform review work; both groups replied that three to four years experience is necessary to smoothly perform claim work and review work. This study was tried in order to search for directions to improve Korean insurance review work in quality rather than to explore characteristics themselves of individual factors. In this sense, this study presupposed an intention that the educational subjects for further training and continuing education for the two groups should be the same in order to narrow the awareness gap between hospital's claim officers and Agency's review officers. Thus, this study suggests that it is desirable to offer beginner courses at junior colleges or in undergraduate courses and advanced courses in professional graduate school for six to twelve months. In that a comparison of awareness level of hospital's claim officers and Agency's review officers who are actually in practice should precede appropriate presentation of directions for the qualitative improvement of insurance review work in Korea, the significance of this study lies in comparatively analyzing the awareness level of hospital's claim officers and Agency's review officers and in presenting the establishment of future further training and continuing education.

The development and evaluation of curriculum for developing physician's competencies in public health (한국 공공보건의료 의사역량 개발을 위한 교육과정 개발 및 평가)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the curriculum, that was the continuing professional development program, for cultivating physician's competencies in public health. Methods: This study was conducted through in-depth interview and survey in the frame of ADDIE, from 2 May to 30 June in 2019. Participants were 7 physicians by in-depth interview and Respondents were 46 physicians worked in public health by survey. Results: The results were analyzed and described in the frame of ADDIE model. In the stage of Analysis, physician's core competencies in public health was presented to practical education, management of organization and labor force, communication with community, and director' role of public health center in the community as core competencies by in-depth interview. The skill - knowledge-attitude competencies were highest in order in the survey for placing priority (by Borich score) of 29 core competencies. In design stage, the educational objective of curriculum was established, that is to develop the competencies of knowledge, skills, and attitude needed for physician of public health in 21th century. In development and implementation stage, it is important to decide to lecturer, to get in advance educational materials to do the maintenance and management of curriculum. In the stage of evaluation, the educational satisfaction was high on the whole and educational effect was statistically significant. Conclusions: This study was an initial study of Korean doctors, and it aims to pursue competency-based education as a continuing professional development (CPD) beyond continuing medical education (CME) including knowledge, skills, and attitudes.

A Study for Developing Generic Competency Standards Focusing on Professional Engineer Qualification in National Technical Qualification Act (공통직무능력표준 개발연구: 국가기술자격법상 기술사 자격을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the national generic competency standards for professional engineer and so improve the quality of Korean professional engineer into an international level. First, this study intends to develop the national generic competency standards for professional engineer that contributes to maintain and enhance the quality of professional engineers in terms of a linkage among education and training, qualification, and labor market. Second, this study aim to obtain the national generic competency standards for professional engineer that applies to reform the criteria of certification, testing, and interview of National Technical Qualification System as well as to develop the curriculum of engineering education and continuing professional development and the system of human resource management in corporations. As a result, a final draft of the national generic competency standards for professional engineer was confirmed to include 12 clusters of competency standards and 56 elements of competency standards.

Problems and Possible Improvement for Current Continuing Education of Pharmacists (현행 약사연수교육의 문제점과 개선방안에 대한 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to find problems and possible improvement for current continuing education (CE) of pharmacists by assessing present status and performing survey data analysis. Present CE for pharmacists is administered by Korean Pharmaceutical Association and it has three separate modules for pharmacists depending on their specialty. The modules for community pharmacy and hospital pharmacy are mainly focused on patient care while the module for industrial pharmacists is on manufacturing and distribution of drugs. Survey data analysis revealed that more than half of the responders feel that present CE is inappropriate in terms of length and contents of the CE. Furthermore, about 40% of all responders answered it does not help them update professional knowledge. With regard to possible improvement of CE, 86% of the responders felt an accreditation council of CE needs to be established, and 64% answered that present three separate modules should be unified. More than three quarter (79%) of the responders wanted to have some part of CE administered by correspondence instead of on-site CE. Based on the findings from this study, present CE for pharmacists appears to need improvement to ensure appropriate drug use and to meet expectations of pharmacists who see problems on the present CE.
