Antioxidant Potential in the Fruits of Pyrus Species (Pear) in Korea

  • Five samples (Bakwoonbae, Chungsilbae, Sandolbae, Dolbae, and Chuwhangbae) of Pyrus species differing in their origin of production were analyzed for total phenolic content, vitamin C content, and antioxidant activities. Two antioxidant activities were measured by the free-radical scavenging activity and reducing power method. Total phenolic content of the Chungsilbae extract (20.35 mg/g) was higher than those of other pears. Vitamin C content in five Pyrus species ranged from $420.32\;{\mu}g/g$ in Sandolbae to $659.75\;{\mu}g/g$ in Bakwoonbae. Chungsilbae also had the highest free radical scavenging activity (76.56%) and reducing power (0.35).

  • In this paper, we present a design and implementation of a TV-Anytime compliant STB to provide personalized content consumption according to user preferences and various terminal/network conditions. This paper mainly details with a metadata engine which consists of meta data de-multiplexing, metadata decoding, and metadata-based content browsing. For personalized content consumption, the proposed metadata engine provides the following key functionalities: advanced EPG, non-linear segment navigation wirh Tables-of-Content and/or event-based summary, automatic recommendation of user-preferred programs, and etc. The implemented STB employing the metadata engine is successfully tested with a set of service scenarios in an end-to-end broadcasting test-bed.

Effect of Vinyl Mulching from the Sowing to Germination on the Seedbed for Production of Ginseng Seedling (번종후 말면 비닐피복이 묘삼생산에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to know the effect of vinyl mulching from the sowing to germination on the seedbed for germination and production of seedling. Embryo growth was restrained with decreasing the water content in seed and stopped below 10% water content. Germination was possible over 55% water content but radicle growth was stopped at 55% water content. Ratioes of embryo / emdosperm length were about 50% at seeding time, and about 80% at just before freeing season, and the ratio was increased from the thawing season again. Vinyl mulching increased the soil water content and soil temperature. Germination rate and number of available seedling in vinyl mulching were increased 10% and 12%, respectively.

Quality Characterization of Cookies with Fermented Angelica gigas Nakai Powder (발효 당귀분말을 첨가한 쿠키의 품질 특성)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the quality characteristics of cookies made with Angelica gigas Nakai fermented by Lactobacillus paracasei. As the content of Angelica gigas Nakai fermented by L. paracasei (AFL) powder increased, the pH of the cookies decreased from 6.3 to 5.2. There was no significant difference in the moisture content depending on AFL powder content. The content of reducing sugar also increased with increasing AFL powder content. Regarding the surface color of the cookies, the L- and b-values decreased with increasing AFL powder content, whereas the a-value increased. As the AFL powder content increased, the total polyphenol content and ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging activities significantly increased. Cookies with 8% AFL powder (AC8) had the highest levels of 107.16 mg%, 38.69%, and 65.56%, respectively. The texture, adhesiveness, and cohesiveness of the cookies with various AFL powder levels were not significantly different, and hardness, springiness, gumminess, and chewiness showed no tendencies toward changes. Taken together, these results showed that when AFL powder was added to cookies, bioactivities such as antioxidant activity increased, making AFL powder a good material with high potential for use in commercially baked products.

Determination of Vitamin B6 Content using HPLC in Agricultural Products cultivated in Local Areas in Korea (HPLC를 이용한 지역 농산물의 비타민 B6 함량 분석)

  • Contents of water soluble vitamin $B_6$ in a total of 62 agricultural products cultivated in local areas in Korea were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detector (HPLC/FLD). To verify the method of vitamin $B_6$ analysis, a quality control chart was formulated with in-house control using a mixture of broccoli and shiitake mushrooms. Among cereals, high content of vitamin $B_6$ measured $234.3{\sim}260.3{\mu}g/100g$ in dried mung bean and soybean. Vitamin $B_6$ content of non-glutinous and glutinous black rice measured $105.0{\mu}g/100g$ and $129.7{\mu}g/100g$, respectively. In vegetables, high content of vitamin $B_6$ were measured in passion fruit ($104.3{\mu}g/100g$), gat ($55.7{\sim}84.3{\mu}g/100g$), gomchwi ($31.3{\sim}88.0{\mu}g/100g$) and garlic ($72.7{\sim}98.3{\mu}g/100g$). Among fruits, gold kiwi 'Zespri' and green kiwi 'Hayward' revealed high vitamin $B_6$ content of $116.3{\mu}g/100g$ and $78.7{\mu}g/100g$, respectively. In persimmons, daebongsi had high vitamin $B_6$ content ($36.0{\sim}72.7{\mu}g/100g$) than bansi and sweet persimmon. Vitamin $B_6$ content in dried jujube and persimmon increased more than $86.7{\mu}g/100g$ compared to fresh materials. Among specialty crops, green tea powder ($64.7{\sim}251.0{\mu}g/100g$) and sansuyu ($172.3{\mu}g/100g$) revealed high content. Of mushrooms, vitamin $B_6$ content of Sparassis crispa ($139.3{\mu}g/100g$) was the highest. Vitamin $B_6$ content information of agricultural products in local areas in Korea collected from this experiment will be used as valuable preliminary data for grasp national nutritional status.

  • 최근 문화유산 해설 분야에도 AI를 도입하기 위해 여러 노력을 기울이고 있으나, 관람객의 특성이나 관심사를 고려하지 않고 사전에 수동으로 입력한 동일한 문화해설 콘텐츠를 다수의 관람객에게 반복 전달하는 형태로만 제공되는데 그치고 있다. 본 논문에서는 관람객이 관람 중인 문화유산을 관람객의 다양한 관심사에 맞추어 문화유산을 다양하게 해설해주기 위한 기초 연구로 영상을 통해 입력된 한국 전통회화에서 도상을 검출하는 연구를 진행하였다. 아직 가능성 타진 연구로 진행되어 현재 제시된 실험 결과에서는 우수한 도상 검출 성능을 내지 못하였지만, 다양한 증강기법과 퓨샷 러닝기법을 통하여 성능 향상을 도모할 경우 충분히 관람객 맞춤형 문화유산 해설 분야에 활용 가능할 것으로 기대된다.

  • 기계학습 기술의 발전으로 인해 다양한 분야에서 객체를 자동으로 인식하고 그 행동을 분석하는 연구의 필요성이 대두되고 있으며, 이는 스포츠 분야도 마찬가지이다. 현재 스포츠 경기내의 다중객체를 검출하고 추적하는 시스템은 정확성이 높지 않아 대부분의 서비스가 숙련된 오퍼레이터의 수작업에 의존하고 있어 객체의 위치를 검출하고 이를 실시간으로 정확하게 추적할 수 있는 기술의 개발이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 기존 알고려즘을 다중객체 추적에 적합하도록 구현하고 성능을 비교한 결과를 제시하여 스포츠 경기 내의 다중객체 추적에 적합한 알고리즘을 제안하고자 한다.

Quality Characteristics of Processed Mushroom Products Using Pleurotus ostreatus, Agaricus bisporus and Flammulina velutipes

  • This study examined the effects of adding Pleurotus ostreatus, Agaricus bisporus and Flammulina velutipes on the quality characteristics of cookies and multiple purposes of wheat powders. The water content, crude protein content, mineral content, color value and sensory evaluation of mushroom cookies and multiple purposes of wheat powders were measured. In the case of cookies, the water content was 1.10-1.24% and crude protein content was 8.20-9.80%. General preferences, such as appearance, color, taste and texture, increased when mushroom was added to the cookies, especially flavor, which showed a much higher preference. In the studies where mushroom was added to wheat powders, the water content was 0.57-0.92% and crude protein content was 11.90-12.80%. The addition of mushroom to both of the cookies and multiple purposes of wheat powders resulted in a remarkable increase in the mineral content, especially Fe, K. In addition, an increase in the amount of added mushrooms resulted in an increase in the hunter L and a values; however, this also resulted in a decrease in the b value.

Supercritical Water Gasification of Low Rank Coal with High Moisture Content (고함수 저등급 석탄의 초임계수 가스화 특성)

  • Study on clean and efficient utilization technology for low rank coal with high moisture content is actively ongoing due to limited reserves of petroleum and of high grade coal and serious climate change caused by fossil fuel usage. In the present study, supercritical water gasification of low rank coal was performed. With increasing reaction temperature, content of combustible gases such as $H_2$ and $CH_4$ in the syngas increased while the $CO_2$ content decreased. As the reaction pressure increased from 210 to 300 bar, the $CO_2$ content in the syngas increased while the hydrocarbon gas content decreased. The $H_2$ and $CH_4$ content in the syngas increased slightly with pressure. With the addition of Pd, Pt, and Ru catalysts, it was possible to improve the production of $H_2$. Moreover, the increase of active metal content in the catalyst increased the $H_2$ productivity. The Ru catalyst shows the best performance for increasing the $H_2$ content in the syngas, while decreasing the $CO_2$ content.

UCI Embedder: A Real-time Broadcast-Content-Identifier Watermarking System for Broadcast Content Distribution Services (방송콘텐츠 유통서비스를 위한 실시간 콘텐츠식별자 은닉삽입 시스템)

  • We introduce the standard content identifier Universal Content Identifier (UCI) and a watermarking system that embeds UCI for the broadcast content distribution services. Our proposed UCI embedder is designed in consideration of integrating with the previously established broadcast system and protecting the illegal distribution of broadcast contents. Our goal is that when broadcast content is transmitted, 28 byte UCI is embedded imperceptibly in the content itself in real-time and the embedded UCI is successfully extracted not only in the typical format used in the broadcast content distribution service but also in the illegally distributed broadcast contents. Usually the illegally distributed contents are modified from the original by changing resolutions, frame rates, or adjusting colors. In this paper, we present a watermarking scheme that embeds 28 byte UCI in broadcast content in real-time while keeping the visual quality high and the embedded watermark robust enough to survive through the various modification. The experimental results show that the embedded UCI remains in the various modified versions of content and that the visual degradation by embedding is not noticeable.
