The waste treatment fee and energy production effect of Wonju city RDF plant, the first RDF manufacturing plant in Korea, were investigated in the study. All plant operation data, like total weight of received wastes, produced RDF and separated rejects in processes were fully recorded for mass balance calculation of the plant in 2009. Also all consumed oil and electricity were recorded for energy balance calculation. The results showed that the waste treatment fee not including the RDF sales price of 25,000 won/ton-RDF was 116,573 won/ton-MSW and it went down to 105,298 won when included the RDF price. Produced RDF was 40.2% of total received waste in weight. Three components analysis by mass balance calculation of total received waste showed that Wonju city's MSW was 32.4% of combustible, 37.5% of water and 30.1% of incombustible respectively. Energy effect was found that total amount of produced energy was about 4 times more than that of consumed energy.
Concerning Korean energy consumption, 20% of the total electrical energy (96% is now exported) is consumed in lighting area. Accordingly, it is one of the most important governmental policies to efficiently utilize electricity due to development and application of high-efficiency lighting equipment. In Korea, widely-built traffic signals employ an incandescent and are of 100W/300 mm, and 280,080set/801,932lamps have been installed and operated by 1999. Of them, 58%(161,181set), 25%(69,655set) and 18%(49,244set) correspond to traffic signals, pedestrian signals and other supplementary signals respectively. It was estimated that electrical energy consumed 28MW instantaneously, 245GWH annually. On the other hand, the LED traffic signal is expected to be a future traffic signal since if traffic signals are replaced by LEDs, energy saving effect of 85% and drop of 75% in maintenance fee will be obtained. In this paper, the performance and characteristics of many LED traffic signals made in Korea are summarized in order to reform Korean standard of LED traffic signals.
Tele-metering systems have been useful tools for managing domestic wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) over the last decade. They mostly generate water quality data for discharged water to ensure that it complies with mandatory regulations and they may be able to produce every operation parameter and additional measurements in the near future. A sub-big data group, comprised of about 150,000 data points from four domestic WWTPs, was ready to be classified and also analyzed to optimize the WWTP process. We used the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) 25 package in order to statistically treat the data with linear regression and correlation analysis. The major independent variables for analysis were water temperature, sludge recycle rate, electricity used, and water quality of the influent while the dependent variables representing the water quality of the effluent included the total nitrogen, which is the most emphasized index for discharged flow in plants. The water temperature and consumed electricity showed a strong correlation with the total nitrogen but the other indices' mutual correlations with other variables were found to be fuzzy due to the large errors involved. In addition, a multilayer perceptron analysis method was applied to TMS data along with root mean square error (RMSE) analysis. This study showed that the RMSE in the SS, T-N, and TOC predictions were in the range of 10% to 20%.
With the recent increasing interest in sustainability management, the latest environmental report tends to be substituted by the expanded sustainability management report. In this work, I would like to introduce the management pattern of a global enterprise that values environmental soundness (environmental friendly) and implements eco-friendly measures. The enterprise chosen in this study is FedEx. In this article, FedEx case is presented how companies can adopt environmental friendly management in their businesses. FedEx has maintained an eco-friendly management since the introduction of the company's eco-friendly transport trucks in 2003, following its development in 2000. In 2005, it installed a solar power plant that can supply up to 80% of the electricity consumed by Oakland Logistics Center in California, USA. FedEx has published the "Global Enterprise Citizenship Report," which contains its business developments in 2009. FedEx has worked hard to minimize the influence caused by packaging of goods to the environment and appealed to customers to use recycled products as much as they can. FedEx also encourages customers to use packaging materials efficiently. A considerable amount of energy has been expended in the eco-friendly programs of FedEx. Although thousands of FedEx vehicles and aircraft operate daily with using large amounts of electricity and fuel, FedEx focuses on energy savings and global environment protection.
The power consumption pattern of high-speed railway has rarely during night time. But, during service time, the power is consumed irregularly related to train operation. Especially certain unusual about 1-2 days of service time interval to indicate the power consumption is rapidly growing phenomenon, which causes the capacity of the power contract is the annual electricity bill to rise rapidly as the cause. Normally, amount of peak power consumption bill rate at railway substation is over 20% of total electrical bill. Therefore, high-speed railway substation is expected to be considerably larger savings by reducing the peak power of the default charge(demand power).
The device we have developed is the automatic shut off equipment which will reduce energy consumption when an equipment is in stand by power state. The principle for this system is when a man is moving, electricity will flow by setting a on-off light system. At night, in the stand-by power state the electric supply will be shut off immediately which will reduce energy consumption. Energy consumed by 24hour operating machines and stand-by electronic devices will be reduced by pulse signals which will give power supply when needed.
FCEV uses electric energy generated from fuel cell stack, thus all consisting parts must be re-designed to be suitable for electricity based system. Cathode air blower which supplies compressed air into fuel cell stack has similar shape of turbocharger, but a radial turbine of traditional turbocharger is removed and high speed BLDC motor is installed . Generally, maximum 10% of electric power of fuel cell stack is consumed in air blower, therefore an effective design of air blower can improve the performance of FCEV directly. This study will present an aerodynamic design process of an air blower and compare computational results with experimental data.
To identify energy savings when comparing lighting designs or evaluating installed lighting, it is necessary to analyze the consumption of lighting power with respect to the electricity consumed and the lighting area. In Korea, however, these factors have not been considered in lighting design. In this paper, the lighting power-related standards on indoor lighting in foreign countries have been analyzed. It is determine appropriate lighting power consumption for indoor by calculating the energy consumption has been estimated in a lighting design adopted domestic luminaire used.
