  • Employing a speical yield function for porous metals, a set of special constitutive equations is formulated to predict elastic-plastic responses of porous metals under triaxial compression. The proposed contitutive equations are compared with experimental data for porous tungsten under hydrostatic compression and uniaxial strain compression.

  • Dynamic deformation behavior under the high strain rate loading condition obtained with the aid of Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique is simulated by DYNA2D (an hydrodynamic code). A constitutive equation such as Johnson-Cook model is used by adjusting various parameters to fit experimentally determined dynamic stress-strain relationship.

  • In the present study, in order to apply a cyclic viscoelastic-viscoplastic constitutive model to multi-layered ground conditions during large earthquake, the numerical simulations of the 1995 Hyogoken Nanbu Earthquake at Port Island, Kobe, Japan, were performed by the seismic respons analysis. From the seismic response analysis, it was verified that a cyclic viscoelastic-viscoplastic constitutive model can give a good description of the damping characteristics of clay accurately during large event which induces plastic deformation in large strain range.

  • The compressive stress-strain response of Low Density Polyurethane foam material is modeled using the finite element method. A constitutive equation which include experimental constants based on quasi-static and dynamic uniaxial compression test is proposed. Impact test with different impactor masses and velocities are performed to verify the proposed model. The comparison between impact test and finite element analysis shows good agreements.

  • This study is concerned with modeling an elastomer constitutive relation by utilizing the truncated Volterra series. Actual experimental data from the Instron Tester are obtained for combined input, i.e. constant strain rate followed by a constant strain input. These data are then estimated for step inputs and utilized for the truncated Volterra series models. One second order and one third order truncated Volterra series models have been employed to estimated the force-displacement relation which is one of the prominent properities to characterize the viscoelastic material. The third order Volterra series model has better results, compared with those of the second order Volterra series model.

  • Engineering problems are inherently imprecision tolerant. Biologically inspired soft computing methods are emerging as ideal tools for constructing intelligent engineering systems which employ approximate reasoning and exhibit imprecision tolerance. They also offer built-in mechanisms for dealing with uncertainty. The fundamental issues associated with engineering applications of the emerging soft computing methods are discussed, with emphasis on neural networks. A formalism for neural network representation is presented and recent developments on adaptive modeling of neural networks, specifically nested adaptive neural networks for constitutive modeling are discussed.

  • Considering the relatively large amount of stable flexural teat results available for steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) and their dependency on the constitutive behavior of the material, a technique called “System Identification” is used for interpretating the flexural test data in order to obtain basic information on the tensile constitutive behavior of steel fiber reinforced concrete. “System Identification” was successful in obtaining optimum sets of parameters which provide satisfactory matches between the measured and predicted flexural load-deflection relationships.

  • A ferroelectric (called piezoelectric afterwards) wafer has been widely used as a key component of actuators or sensors of a layer type. According to recent researches, the piezoelectric wafer behaves in a nonlinear way under excessive electro-mechanical loadings. In the present paper, one-dimensional constitutive equations for the nonlinear behavior of a piezoelectric wafer are proposed based on the principles of thermodynamics and a simple viscoplasticity theory. The predictions of the developed model are compared with experimental observations.

  • A new combined isotropic/kinematic and orthotropic hardening viscoplastic model is proposed which can account for not only differential orientations but also preferred orientations of grains in n metal at finite plastic deformations with an introduction of multiple spin (rate of rotation) concept within the general framework of the model, the effects of anisotropy and constitutive spins will be discussed in conjunction with a closed-form solution for simple shear in n rigid-plastic material, which will be used to simulate experimental data of Montheillet, et al. (1984) for fixed-end tortion tests at finite plastic deformations.
