  • $\alpha,\omega-Vinyl$ poly(dimethyl-methylphenyl) siloxane propelymer (VPMPS ) was prepared by the equilibrium polymerization of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane $(D_4)$, 1,3,5-trimethyl-1,3,5-triphenylcyclotrisiloxane $(D_3^{MePh})$, and 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-1,3-divinylsiloxane (MVS) as end-blocker. And also, $\alpha,\omega-hydrogen$ poly(dimethyl-methyltrifluoropropyl)siloxane prepolymer (HPDMFS) was prepared from $D_4$, 1,3,5-trimethyl-1,3.5-trifluoropropylcyclotrisiloxane $(D_3^{MeF3P})$, and 1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane. Poly(organosiloxane) rubber composite containing high thermal conductive filler was prepared by compounding VPMPS, HPDMFS, spherical alumina, and catalyst in high speed dissolver. The crosslinking density of poly (organosiloxane) composite was measured by oscillation rheometer. Poly(organosiloxane) composites of TC-POXR-2 and TC-POXR-4 prepared by controlling average diameters of thermal conductive filler, spherical alumina according to Horsfield's packing model were shown to 1.13 W/mK for TC-POXR-2 and 1.19 W/mK for TC-POXR-4.

  • Recently developed liquid silicone rubber (LSR) can be cured by platinum catalyzed additional hydrosilylation mechanism and has the advantage of no byproduct compared to traditional millable peroxide curing silicone rubber. We investigated the characteristics of dielectric breakdown of silicone rubber and adhesion properties between semi-conductive LSR and insulating LSR for high voltage application of pre-molded joint (PMJ). In order to understand the dielectric breakdown characteristics, we used the sheet samples and the paired type rogowski insert electrode system. The breakdown strength and adhesion strength of LSR (E-3) were superior to those of several silicone rubbers. Adhesion strength could be improved by curing at high temperature without post-curing process or enhanced by post-curing process. When LSR (E-3) was cured at $(150^{\circ}C{\times}10min$ semi-conductive )${\times}$ ($175^{\circ}C{\times}10min$ insulation), it showed the high breakdown strength with low standard deviation, and good adhesion strength. In this results, we could apply this process to the fabrication of PMJ without post-curing.

  • In order to investigate the characteristics of resistance and conduction of vulcanized styrene butadiene rubber (SBR)/ carbon black (CB) composites, surface/ volume resistivity, point to point resistance, decay time, and electrical conduction experiments with four different kinds of non-conductive carbon black were measured. When about 50phr of carbon black were loaded in SBR, all resistivites suddenly decreased and critical region (Rc) was shown. Current densities of SBR/CB composites showed critical point (Pc) and increased with the electric fields. Electrical conduction mechanisms of SBR/CB composites could be considered as the ohmic conduction at low electric fields and the space charge limited conduction (SCLC) at high electric fields, respectively.

  • In this research, silicone rubber with additions of inorganic filler, alumina trihydrate$(Al(OH)_3\;:\;ATH)$, was aged acceleratedly and cyclically by the salt-fog and heating. The optimum amount of ATH addition to silicone rubber have been investigated by measurements of leakage current in the change of electrical properties and tensile strength, %elongation in mechanical properties and FT-IR, TG, SEM in the change of the chemical properties. With regard to un-aged silicone rubber, as the ATH addition amount increases, conductive path formation time was shortened in the electrical properties and tensile strength was increased, %elongation was decreased. In case of identical ATH addition amount, as cyclic aging increases, surface resistivity, tensile strength and %elongation were decreased. Considering the cyclic aging, the most effective amount of ATH addition was about 90phr.

  • Nobody doubts to say that one of the most important performance polymers is a conductive polymer. The manufacturing process of the commercial conductive polymers has been known by mixing with the conductive materials, but it doesn't noticeably appear of a conductive function. One of the reasons is the lack of comprehension In compounding a carbon black with polymer rosins. This paper involves the understanding of compounding technology of the conductive carbon black filled composite. Our experimental results indicate that the fibrous shaped carbon black was hard to process but appeared of a superior conductivity compared to a stick or a sphelulite shaped carbon black. Therefore, it was processed with a processing oil in compounding, which led to a better processability and a better conductivity. This study was accomplished that the solution process compared to the melting process.

  • The tracking characteristics of silicone rubber degraded by accelerated outdoor exposure employing a weather-o-meter were investigated. The tracking test was performed according to ICE Publ.587 method but the concentration of conductive solution was two times higher than IEC standard in order to accelerate the tracking failure. The number of large effective scintillation and the current of high voltage circuit were measured simultaneously. It was shown that the number of effective scintillation had valuable information of the tracking degradation state of silicone rubber, while the average current between electrodes could not provide information enough for diagnosis. Based upon the experimental results, it could be said that the key factor accelerating tracking failure was not Joule heating by current but pyrolysis by burning of silicone rubber, and that reduction of contact angle was due to chain scission which resulted in the free radicals of low molecules.

  • Using various compositions of thermally conductive inorganic fillers with boron nitride (BN) and aluminum oxide ($Al_2O_3$), solventless UV-curable thermally conductive acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) were prepared. The base of the PSAs consists of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate, and isobornyl acrylate. The compositions of the thermally conductive inorganic fillers were 10, 15, 20, and 25 phr in case of BN, and 20:0, 15:5, 10:10, 5:15, and 0:20 phr in case of $BN/Al_2O_3$. The adhesion properties like peel strength, shear strength, and probe tack, and the thermal conductivity of the prepared PSAs were investigated with different thermally conductive inorganic filler contents. There were no significant changes in photo-polymerization behavior with increasing BN or $BN/Al_2O_3$ content. Meanwhile, the conversion rate and transmittance of the PSAs decreased and their thermal stabilities increased with increasing BN content. Their adhesion properties were also independent of the BN or $BN/Al_2O_3$ content. The dispersibility of BN in the acrylic PSAs was better than that of $Al_2O_3$ and it ranked the thermal conductivity in the following order: BN > $BN/Al_2O_3$ > $Al_2O_3$.

  • Respiration is induced by muscular contraction of the chest and abdomen, resulting in the abdominal volume change. Thus, continuous measurement of the abdominal dimension enables to monitor breathing activity. Conductive rubber cord has been previously introduced and tested to develop wearable application for respiratory measurements. The present study implemented wireless wearable respiratory monitoring system with the conductive rubber cord in the patient's pants. Signal extraction circuitry was developed to obtain the abdominal circumference changes reflecting the lung volume variation caused by respiratory activity. Wireless transmission was followed based on the zigbee communication protocol in a size of 65mm${\times}$105mm easily put in pocket. Successful wireless monitoring of respiration was performed in that breathing frequency was accurately estimated as well as different breathing patterns were easily recognized from the abdominal signal. $CO_2$ inhalation experiment was additionally performed in purpose of quantitative estimation of tidal volume. Air mixed with $0{\sim}5%\;CO_2$was inhaled by 4 normal males and the respiratory air flow rate, abdominal dimension change, and end tidal $CO_2$ concentration were simultaneously measured in steady state. $CO_2$ inhalation increased the tidal volume in normal physiological state with a correlation coefficient of 0.90 between the tidal volume and the end tidal $CO_2$ concentration. The tidal volume estimated from the abdominal signal linearly correlated with the accurate tidal volume measured by pneumotachometer with a correlation coefficient of 0.88 with mean relative error of approximately 8%. Therefore, the tidal volume was accurately estimated by measuring the abdominal dimension change.

  • In this study, the electrostatic capacity and dielectric loss tangent for $20{\mu}m$ thick thermal conductivity silicone rubber which is heated at 80 degrees for 8 hours has been measured at temperature of $30^{\circ}C{\sim}170^{\circ}C$, frequency of 0.1~1 MHz. The results of degradation evaluation by this study are as follows. In low frequency, it found that the electrostatic capacity decreased with increasing temperature. On the other hand, it confirmed that the range of the electrostatic capacity narrowed with increasing frequency. It confirmed that there are the carboxylic acid structure and C-O bonding at range of wave number 1,000cm-1 to 1,300cm-1.
