Dielectric properties and shape memory characteristics of SBS composites filled with carbon black as conductive filler and (Ba,Ca)$(Sn,Ti)O_3$ or $SrTiO_3$ as dielectrics were investigated for the development of phantom model. SBS/carbon black composite showed an increment of complex dielectric constant with increasing the content of carbon black and the frequency dependence that the dielectric constant decreases with the frequency. The complex dielectric constant and the conductivity of SBS/carbon black/dielectrics composites increased with the increase of dielectrics and the characteristics of the frequency dependence also occurred by the effect of carbon black. Phantom materials with the dielectric properties and the conductivity corresponding to human tissues for the measurement of specific absorption rate(SAR) within the frequency range of current mobile phones(775MHz~2GHz) could be developed by adjusting the composition ratios of carbon black, dielectrics and SBS and by controlling the characteristic of frequency dependence of composite. From thermomechanical cycling test good shape recoverability could be obtained in SBS composite even though the residual strain was increased by the effect of filler.

This paper presents an experimental study on the piezoresistive behavior of nanocomposite strain sensors subjected to various loading modes and their capability to detect structural deformations and damages. The electrically conductive nanocomposites were fabricated in the form of a film using various types of thermoplastic polymers and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) at various loadings. In this study, the nanocomposite strain sensors were bonded to a substrate and subjected to tension, flexure, or compression. In tension and flexure, the resistivity change showed dependence on measurement direction, indicating that the sensors can be used for multi-directional strain sensing. In addition, the sensors exhibited a decreasing behavior in resistivity as the compressive load was applied, suggesting that they can be used for pressure sensing. This study demonstrates that the nanocomposite strain sensors can provide a pathway to affordable, effective, and versatile structural health monitoring.
The surface resistance of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT/PSS), which has appeared to be one of the most successful conductive polymers, is affected by the solvent. In this paper, pellet-type PEDOT/PSS was suspended in $H_2O$, ethanol (EtOH), ethylene glycol (EG) or dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), and coated on PET film. The surface resistances of the films made from EG or DMSO suspension were observed to be lower, nearly by 2 orders of magnitude, than that made from $H_2O$ suspension. No significant difference among four kinds of films was observed when the thermal properties and chemical structures were investigated by TGA and XPS, respectively. However, particle size of PEDOT/PSS was in the range of $1-3{\mu}m$ in EG or DMSO, on the other hand, less than $0.1{\mu}m$ in $H_2O$. It is considered that the particle size of PEDOT/PSS in the suspension plays an important role for the surface resistance.
Effects of the amount of nickel powder (Ni) in Ni-carbon fiber (CF) hybrid filler systems on the conductivity(or resistivity) and thermal coefficient of resistance (TCR) of filled high density polyethylene were studied. Increases of the resistivity and TCR with increasing Ni concentration at a given hybrid filler content were observed. Using the fiber contact model, we showed that the main role of Ni in the hybrid filler system is to decrease the interfiber contact resistance when Ni concentration is less than the threshold point. The formation of structural defects leading to reduced reinforcing effect resulted in both a reduction of strength and an increase of the coefficient of thermal expansion in the composite film; these changes are responsible for the increases of both resistivity and TCR with increasing Ni concentration in the hybrid filler system.

The thermal degradation of the homopolymer poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA)/tetra cyano quino dimethane(TCNQ) blend and Eccogel/TCNQ blend were carried out using the thermogravimetric method in the stream of nitrogen gas with 60ml/min at various heating rate from 1 to $20^{\circ}C/min$. Friedman and Ozawa mathermatical methods were used to obtain the value of activation energy. Produced electrical properties and activation energy by electric conductivity method that used LCR meter.

Conductive polymers(CPs) are a relatively new class of organic materials displaying as their foremost property a high conductivity combined with very light weight, flexibility and reasonably facile processability[1]. Due to their high conductivity/weight ratio, they have recently evinced much interest in potential application as EMI shielding screens, coatings or jackets for flexible conductors, rechargeable batteries and as possible substitutes for metallic conductors or semiconductors in wide variety of electrical devices[2]. Electronic skin (or E-skin) is an artificial smart skin composed of one or more than two sensors. E-skins detect external stimuli and convert them into electrical signals. Various types of E-skin sensors exist, including mechanical, physical, and chemical, depending on the detection signals involved. For wearable E-skins with superior sensitivity and reliability, developing conductors that possess both good elasticity and sensitivity is essential. Typical electrical conductors used in these sensors show very high sensitivity, but they have drawbacks such as non-linearity, irreversibility, and a narrow sensing range. To address these issues, stretchable and lightweight ionic conductors have been actively used in E-skin applications. This study summarizes the recent progress on various types of ionic conductors and ionic-conductor-based E-skin sensors.
$V_2O_5$ nanowire / polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer composite fibers were fabricated by a new simple method. The reaction of PVA and acetone facilitates the formation of the polymer membrane which can be used to make the fiber. Composite fiber is percolative in the conductance because of the low percolation threshold in $V_2O_5$ nanowire networks. The fiber composite can be applied to the electromagnetic shielding originating from the conductive nature.
IPMC is composed of thin ion conductive polymer film sandwiched between metallic electrodes plated on both surfaces. Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite (IPMC) generates voltages when bent by mechanical stimuli. IPMC has a potential for the variety of energy harvesting applications due to its soft and hydrophilic characteristics. However, the large-scale implementation is necessary to increase the output power. In this paper, the scale-up of surface area effect on voltage generation characteristics of IPMC was investigated using IPMC samples with different surface areas. Also, a circuit model simulating both the output voltage and its offset variations was designed for estimating the voltages from IPMC samples. The proposed model simulated the output voltages with offsets well corresponding to various frequencies of input bending motion. However, some samples showed that the increase of error between real and simulated voltages with time due to the nonlinear characteristic of offset variations.

The thermal conductivity and the adhesive properties were measured, after synthesis of thermal conductive composite which was obtained as a result of mixing alumina or graphite with acrylic adhesive synthesized by UV polymerization. The adhesive properties of the composite were evaluated measuring the peel strength at 180 degrees, the retention, and the initial tack;the thermal conductivity was estimated using laser flash analysis. As the filler contents increased, a decrease in peel strength and initial tack and an increase in retention and thermal conductivity were observed. When compared to alumina, the adhesion of graphite showed a dramatic decrease, whereas the thermal conductivity was further enhanced. It was found out that the small size of graphite increased the mechanical interlocking between the polymer and the filler, and it was easier for graphite to come into contact with other graphite in the matrix.
