  • Spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ has become appealing because manganese is inexpensive and environmentally benign. In general, cathodes for lithium ion batteries include carbon as a conductive agent that provides electron transfer between the active material and the current collector. In this work, we selected Acetylene Black and Super P Black as conductive agents, and then carried out their comparative investigation for the performances of the $Li/LiMn_2O_4$ cells using different conductive agents with different particle size. In addition, their electrochemical impedance characteristic of $Li/Mn_2O_4$ cells using different conductive agents is effectively identified through a.c. impedance technique. As a consequence, $Li/LiMn_2O_4$ cells with Super P Black show better electrochemical performances ascribed to the significant contribution of feasible ionic conduction due to larger particle size than those with Acetylene Black.

  • Electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding characteristics of composite filled with Cu flake and carbon brush powder as hybrid conductive filler and EAF slag have been studied. The coaxial transmission line method of ASTM D4935-99 was used to measure the EMI Shielding effectiveness of composites as formulation in frequency rage $100\~1,000MHz$ The SE also increases with the increase in flier loading. The hybrid filler filled composites show higher SE compared to that of only Cu flake. The correlation between SE and conductivity of the various composites is also discussed. The results indicate that the composites having higher filler loading$({\geq}40wt.\%)$ can be used for the purpose of safety materials to protect hazardous electromagnetic interference.

  • Granting self-sensing performance in a building is an important performance to ensure the degree of damage and safety of the building. Since the current research is being conducted in the state before deterioration loss occurs, it is necessary to confirm whether the self-sensing performance is maintained even in the damaged conductive cement composite. As part of the study, electrical resistance characteristics were analyzed in conductive cement composites in which freeze-thawing and chemical corrosion occurred. As a result, it was found that the change in electrical resistance value due to freeze-thawing was not as large as 1%, and chemical corrosion occurred. It was found that the change in electrical resistance value of the tested specimen increased by about 10%.

  • Recently, underground spaces have been developed variously due to the concentration of the building structure in downtown area and reconstruction of the apartment. However, various problems such as differential settlement are occurring in the waterproof and reinforcement construction. In grouting method, which is frequently used for the ground reinforcement, quality control was performed by measuring the injection quantity of grouting materials and performing laboratory tests using boring samples, but it is difficult to determine whether the ground reinforcement has been performed properly during the construction stage. In order to solve this problem, a research is needed to carry out quality control by measuring electric resistivity after grouting is performed using grouting materials mixed with conductive materials. In this research, as a basic study of the new grouting method using conductive materials, uniaxial compression tests were performed using cement specimen with 0, 3, 5, 7% of carbon fiber to evaluate the effect of conductive material on the performance of grouting material. Based on the test results, the uniaxial compressive strength is increased with the mixed proportion of the carbon fiber increase. Furthermore, the carbon fiber can also affect on the early-strength of the grouting materials.

  • It is very important to secure the adhesion durability between the base film and the conductive paste for the development of a sensor for detecting hazardous chemicals. In this study, an ester binder was used to improve the adhesive properties which can be a problem when applying the sensor to the cross cut 0B or 1B grade. This problem was found while evaluating the adhesive properties by coating the polyaniline/graphene nano plate (GNP) paste on the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film. When 10 wt% or more of the ester-based binder was added, the cross cut grade to which the sensor can be applied was 3B or higher. It was confirmed that the excessive addition of the binder may affect the electrical properties of the conductive paste and actually decrease the reactivity to sulfuric acid. To improve the electrical property, a carbon black (CB) content was varied resulting in the optimum electrical property observed at 2 wt% of CB.

  • In this study, an electrical conductive carbon fiber was used as a biofilter matrix to electrochemically improve the biofilter function. A bioreactor system was composed of carbon fiber (anode), titanium ring, porcelain ring, inorganic nutrient reservoir, and VOC reservoir. Electric DC power of 1.5 volt was charged to the carbon fiber anode (CFA) to induce the electrochemical oxidation potential on the biofilter matrix, but not to the carbon fiber (CF). We tested the effects of electrochemical oxidation potential charged to the CFA on the biofilm structure, the bacterial growth, and the activity for metabolic oxidation of VOCs to $CO_2$, According to the SEM image, the biofilm structure developed in the CFA appeared to be greatly different from that in the CF. The bacterial growth, VOCs degradation, and metabolic oxidation of VOCs to $CO_2$ in the CFA were more activated than those in the CF. On the basis of these results, we propose that the biofilm structure can be improved, and the bacterial growth and the bacterial oxidation activity of VOCs can be activated by the electrochemical oxidation potential charged to a biofilter matrix.

  • The improvement of electrical conductivity of carbon-fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) has been investigated by silver nano-particles coating for the purpose of lightning strike protection. Silver nano-particles in colloid were sprayed on the surface of carbon fibers, which were then impregnated by epoxy resin to form a CFRP specimen. Electrical resistance was measured by contact resistance meter which utilize the principles of the AC 4-terminal method. Electrical resistance value was then converted to electrical conductivity. The coated silver nano-particles on the carbon fibers were verified by SEM and EDS. The electrical conductivity was increased by three times of the ordinary CFRP.
