  • We introduce certain local Thomsen condition in a 3-web and prove that it is equivalent to the equation a-(a-b)=b in its corresponding loop, where we denote the loop operation additively for convenience and simplicity, even though the loop is neither associative nor commutative. Also we interpret such local Thomsen condition using orthogonality of chains in a web.

  • A radial basis hybrid neural network (RHNN) is presented for on-line prediction of machine condition. A modular-based neural architecture is designed for modeling a machine condition process and for predicting future signal. A fast on-line learning algorithm is introduced. Experimental results showed the RHNN could be utilized efficiently for on-line machine condition monitoring.

  • In this paper we consider the quadratic matrix equation which can be defined by $$Q(X)=AX^2+BX+C=0$$, where X is a $n{\times}n$ unknown complex matrix, and A, B and C are $n{\times}n$ given matrices with complex elements. We first introduce a couple of condition numbers of the equation Q(X) and present normwise condition numbers. Finally, we compare the results and some numerical experiments are given.

  • In this paper, we initiate the study of some annihilator conditions on polynomials which were used by Kaplansky [4] to abstract algebras of bounded linear operators on a Hilbert spaces with Baer condition. On the other hand, p.p. rings were introduced by A. Hattori [3] to study the torsion theory. The purpose of this paper is to introduce near-rings with Baer condition and near-rings with p.p. condition which are somewhat different from the ring case, and to extend a results of Armendarz [1] to polynomial near-rings with Baer condition in somewhat different way of Birkenmeier and Huang [2].

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the stress distribution according to the splinting condition and non-splinting conditions on the finite element models of the two units implant prostheses. The finite element model was designed with the parallel placement of two fixtures ($4.0mm{\times}11.5mm$) on the mandibular 1st and 2nd molars. A cemented abutment and gold screw were used for superstructures. A FEA models assumed a state of optimal osseointegration, as the bone quality, inner cancellous bone and outer 2 mm compact bone was designed. This concluded that the cortical and trabecular bone were assumed to be perfectly bonded to the implant. Splinting condition had 2 mm contact surface and non-splinting condition had $8{\mu}m$ gap between two implant prosthesis. Two group (Splinting and non-splinting) were loaded with 200 N magnitude in vertical axis direction and were divided with subdivision group. Subdivision group was composed of three loading point; Center of central fossa, the 2 mm and 4 mm buccal offset point from the central fossa. Von Mises stress value were recorded and compared in the fixture-bone interface and bucco-lingual sections. The results were as follows; 1. In the vertical loading condition of central fossa, splinting condition had shown a different von Mises stress pattern compared to the non-splinting condition, while the maximum von Mises stress was similar. 2. Stresses around abutment screw were more concentrated in the splinting condition than the non-splinting condition. As the distance from central fossa increased, the stress concentration increased around abutment screw. 3. The magnitude of the stress in the cortical bone, fixture, abutment and gold screw were greater with the 4 mm buccal offset loading of the vertical axis than with the central loading.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of auditory cues in the form of a metronome on gait initiation (GI) in Parkinson's disease (PD). 2 patients (mean age: 54 yrs) with idiopathic PD participated in the study. All patients (Hoehn and Yahr disability score of 2.0) were tested in the "on" state approximately 1.5 hours following the administration and fully responding to their PD medications. Subjects first initiated walking at self-initiated speeds to determine their cadences. Then, subjects were asked to initiate gait along the walkway while keeping pace with a metronome. The metronome rate (in beats/min) was set at a cadence 85% (slow condition), 100% (normal condition) and 115% (fast condition) of gait for each subject. Subjects were able to increase the speed of GI with faster cadence, but the speed of GI for the slow condition was similar to that of the normal condition. Swing toe-off was 578.3 ms for the fast condition, 709.4 ms for the normal condition and 736.2 ms for the slow condition. Respective times for swing heel-strike were 894.3 ms, 1110.2 ms and 1119.1 ms, and stance toe-off were 1105.4 ms, 1338.5 ms, and 1343.1 ms. Except for stance unloading ground reaction forces were greatest for the fast condition and smallest for the slow condition. It appears that PD patients were able to modulate GRFs and temporal events in response to auditory cues to achieve the peak acceleration force of the swing and stance limb. The findings from this study provided preliminary data, which could be used to investigate how PD patients modulate GRFs and temporal events during GI in response to tasks.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare voice parameters in auditory conditions (normal/noise/music) between a teacher group and a control group. Results of statistical analysis showed that the teacher group had higher jitter (%) and shimmer (%) values than the control group. It indicated that the teacher group had larger variations in pitch and dynamic of their voice. In the teacher group, the voice under noisy condition showed a higher value of fundamental frequency than that under normal condition. though its fundamental frequency did not show any significant difference between the noisy condition and the musical condition. In the control group, however, although the voice under noisy condition also showed a higher value of fundamental frequency than that under normal condition, its fundamental frequency was significantly different between the noisy condition and the musical condition.

  • To analyze the cooling performance in the refrigerator truck according to frost growth, the analytical model of refrigeration system was developed under frost and non-frost condition using EES. The system performance was analyzed with outdoor temperature, storage temperature, outdoor front air velocity and compressor speed in order to investigate the system performance characteristics with operating conditions. Besides, the system performance under frost condition was compared with that under non-frost condition. As a result, the frost thickness was 0.9 mm when the refrigerating capacity of frost condition was decreased by 30%. The maximum of the system COP was shown at compressor speed of 1500 rpm for non-frost and frost condition, simultaneously. The performance under frost condition was more sensitive to the operating condition compared to that under non-frost condition.

  • For gasoline engines, a three-way catalytic converter that has the maximum efficiency at stoichiometric air/fuel ratio is used to clean up the exhaust gas. So a precise air/fuel ratio control is necessary to maximize the catalytic conversion efficiency, For a transient condition, a fred-forward air/fuel ratio control method that estimates the air mass inducted into a cylinder is being used. In this study, a fuel injection map that makes an accurate air/fuel ratio control possible was constructed for the very same transient condition. For the same condition above, intake air model and fuel model were refined so that fuel injection values based on air mass through a throttle valve and intake manifold pressure are equal to the map values.

  • The nematic liquid crysta](NLC) aligning capabilities using a-C:H thin film deposited at the three kinds of rf bias condition were investigated. A high pretilt angle of NLC on low substrate rf bias applied a-C:H thin films was observed and the low pretilt angle of the NLC on high substrate rf bias applied a-C:H thin films was observed. Consequently, the high NLC pretilt angle and the good aligning capabilities of LC alignment by the IB alignment method on the a-C:H thin film deposited at 1 W rf bias condition can be achieved. It is considered that pretilt angle of the NLC may be attributed to substrate rf bias condition and IB energy time. Therefore, LC alignment is affected by topographical structure forming strong IB energy.
