  • This paper presents the results of mock up test on the manufacturing of high fluidity concrete by applying flowing methods with segregation reducing type superplasticizer(SRS). Three kinds of mock up structure are made such as. conventional concrete(A), high fluidity concrete(B) and high fluidity concrete incorporating 20% of fly ash(C). Physical and mechanical properties, temperature history of structure and nondestructive test are performed. Segregation reducing type superplasticizer is put into base concrete at field, and base concrete is also flowed at field. C mock up structure which requires 0.85% of SRS to flow base concrete shows most desirable performance at fresh state. The highest rising temperature shows the lowest at C structure among the tested structures. Strength variations before and after flowing also show the lowest values at C structures.

  • It is essential every concrete structure should continue to perform its intended functions, that is maintain its required strength and durability, during the service life. However, deterioration occurs more progressively from the outside of concrete exposed to severe conditions. Deterioration in the concrete structure is due to carbonation and chloride ion attack. Therefore, concrete structure is needed to surface protection for increase durability using impregnant. Impregnant classify into two large groups in polymeric and silicate materials. Silicate impregnant is included silane and alkali silicate(sodium and lithium silicate). Thus, this study is concerned with carbonation and chloride ion resistance of self cleaning hydrophilic impregnant of concrete structure using lithium and potassium silicate. From the experimental test result, lithium and potassium silicate have a good properties as a carbonation and chloride ion resistance. Lithium and potassium silicate make good use of hydrophilic impregnant.

  • Since the biggest time-dependent prestress loss of reactor containment structure is due to creep of concrete. the creep is one of important structural factors to be considered for the safety maintenance in the containment structure during design. construction and main enance. This paper is about the creep charactoristies of concrete for the reactor containment structure. In this paper, creep test was performed to show the creep characteristics of reactor containment concrete structure made of the type-V cement. Then, in order to evaluate the applicability of creep prediction equations of recently revised Korean Concrete Standard Specification(KSCE-96) and Japanes Concrete Standard Specification. ACI-209. CEB/FIP-90. and HANSEN, creep test results were compared with prediction results obtained from he equations. From the comparisons, it was shown that the equation of th KSCE-96 predicts creep for younger concrete than 1 year, better than the other equations and that all of the equations predicts creep, for older concrete than 1 year, smaller than test. From regression analysis. a creep prediction equation which effectively predicts creep of concrete due to loading after 1year was proposed.

  • PURPOSES : In this study, an image analysis method is used to evaluate the pore structure characteristics and permeability of hybrid concrete. METHODS : The binder weight of hybrid concrete is set to $400kg/m^3$, $370kg/m^3$, and $350kg/m^3$, and for each value of binder weight, the pore structure and permeability of concrete mixture is evaluated. The permeability of hybrid concrete is evaluated using a rapid chloride penetration test(RCPT). RESULTS : The concrete pore structure characteristics of hybrid concrete reveals that as the binder weight is reduced, the entrained air is reduced and the entrapped air is increased. The permeability of the hybrid concrete for all values was measured to be below 1000 C, which indicates a "Very Low" level of permeability relative to the evaluation standard of KS F 2711. Additionally, as the binder weight is decreased, there is a significant increase in the permeability of chloride ions. CONCLUSIONS : In this study, the pore structure characteristics of hybrid concrete at different binder weights shows that as the binder weight is reduced, the entrained air is reduced and the entrapped air is increased. Consequently, chloride ion penetration resistance of the hybrid concrete is diminished. As a result, it is expected that this will reduce the concrete's durability.

  • Evaluation of bond strength of a fire-damaged reinforced concrete structure for determining whether to reuse, reinforced, or abandon the structure is very important. Recently, calculating method for changes in bond strength of rebars is proposed by C. Chiang. The equation is relating the ratio of residual bond strength, R, to temperature, T, and exposure time, t. This study presented and verified a general process for evaluating damage to bond strength of RC structure arising from high temperature.

  • The paper presents results of an investigation on the permeability characteristics and pore structure of concrete containing different levels of fly ash, silica fume, or blast furnace slag. The total cementitious content was 351kg/㎥, and the water/cementitious materials ratio was 0.55. The porosity and pore structure of representative pastes of the matrix were measured using mercury intrusion porosimetry, and the permeability characteristics of concrete were also determined by water and oxygen permeability, chloride ion penetration. The results show that significant reduction in permeability of concrete containing pozzolanic materials due to formation of a discontinuous macro-pore system which inhibits flow. And, the permeability of concrete and pore structure(capillary porosity or total porosity) shows linear relationship.

  • Deterioration due to de-icer salt occurs in practice in concrete pavement, dike, barrier and similar structure. This paper reports the results of effect of de-icer salt on. durability of concrete structure in winter. To protect concrete structure from damage by de-icer salt in winter, the exposure test was performed using three countermeasures such as increase in design strength upto $350kg/cm^2$, application of ggbf slag powder, and concrete sealer. Of these, the method of increase in design strength upto $350kg/cm^2$ showed better durability for deterioration by de-icer salt.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavior of the bearing precast concrete (pc) wall structure with hollow core based on experimental tests. In order to evaluate the cyclic performance of the pc walls. Too one story pc walls and ond one reinforced concrete wall are made. The experimental results of pc walls were compared with those values of reinforced concrete (rc) wall. The structural behaviors of pc wall structure with hollow core are similar to those of reinforced concrete bearing wall structure. This study shows that the pc wall with hollow core could be treated as rc wall when designs the pc wall structure against lateral loads

  • The deterioration of concrete structure due to corrosion of the reinforcement has created big financial losses on the overall industries. The volume expansion of the corrosion products causes internal pressure to concrete wall around reinforcing bar. If the maximum principal stress induced by internal pressure exceeds the tensile strength of the concrete at any point of time, a crack forms at any point of material. Therefore, in terms of life assessment of concrete structure, it is very important to predict the amount of corrosion products which induces initial concrete cracking. With this objective, this paper proposes the critical amount of corrosion products at interface between reinforcement and concrete using finite element analysis. If an actual survey of corrosion rates could be made, the model might supply information for condition assessment of existing concrete structure. As the mechanical properties of corrosion product and instantaneous geometry of corroded steel are considered in the analysis, the value obtained will be more realistic.

  • Since the mechanism of chloride diffusion and its ratio in concrete depend on structural conditions and concrete as a micro-structure, if these are analyzed quantitatively, the long-term ageing of structures can be predicted. Although, a quantitative analysis of concrete micro-structure, in which the results are affected by various parameters, is very difficult, this can be done indirectly by the durability test of concrete. In this study, the compressive strength, void ratio and air permeability of concrete. In this study, the compressive strength, void ratio and air permeability of concrete are chosen as the parameters in concrete durability test, and these effects on test results are analysed according to changes of mixing properties. The relationships between parameters and chloride diffusion velocity is used for prediction models of chloride diffusion. The developed prediction models for the chloride diffusion according to mixing and physical properties, can be used to estimate the service life and corrosion initiation of reinforcing bars in marine structures.
