Elementary preservice teachers' understanding about the insect molt and metamorphosis was examined. Data were collected through the paper-pencil test of 448 junior students at a National University of Education. The instrument used was developed by Son(2003) and modified for the test. The results are as follows: First, Only 3.1$\%$ of students had a scientific concept on the molt periods in the insect life cycle. Students had an alternative conception that molt occurs either only in the larval period (29.9$\%$) or only in the period from pupa to adult (22.3$\%$). The percentage of the students thinking that molt occurs in the period from larva to pupa was low. Second, 98$\%$ of students stated that molt has to do with the larval growth, but 39.1$\%$ of students had an alternative conception that molt occurs after the larval growth at each instar. 25.1$\%$ had a conception that molt is related with the larval growth, but did not show any further understanding. Third, most students understood the correct meaning of metamorphosis. 34..2$\%$ of students had an alternative conception that metamorphosis occurs only in the period changing from pupa to adult, and only a few thought that it occurs in the period from larva to pupa. 24.8$\%$ of students had a scientific concept on the periods in which metamorphosis occurs. Fourth, some students understood the hatching process as molt in the sense that the egg shell is taken off (21.0$\%$), and as metamorphosis in terms of the appearance change from egg to larva (25.0$\%$). Fifth, 35.5$\%$ of students selected bees as an insect of incomplete metamorphosis, and 35.3$\%$ responded 'I have no idea', showing that they had poor understanding about the insect life cycle.
The purpose of this study is researching on educational difficulty in the history of western education. In other words, the goal and significance of this paper lies in knowing the essential meaning of education based on the norms of difficulty. The major method for this study is hermeneutical-anthropological pedagogy. My fundamental claim is the following: the essential nature of teaching is difficulty at any instructional condition and situations. Such a discrete idea was clearly identified and confirmed in the process of pedagogical anthropology. That is, through the consciousness of educational difficulty and critical review for the history of western education, I can cleary define the concept of educational difficulty. Educational difficulty was various ways for understanding by all audiences. Namely, various formulars were developed for understanding it according to the age, cultures, nations, ideology, etc.. But there are continuous characters on the way for understanding on educational difficulty. The results on research are as followings. In the primitive age, fundamental difficulty of education lies in the initiation ceremony. At the classical ancient time, the purpose of education was 'Politai' with politike arete, in this educational conditions, instruction have a complex dimension politically as well as psychologically. At the medieval age, educational difficulty lies in the 'Askese' for instructional methods. In the modern and conventional age, educational difficulty is more and more complex and confused on goals, methods, evaluations, etc.. Most of all, the major or key concept of educational difficulty in this world is the conflict between the two instructional principles, that is, objectivism and constructivism in education. At now, the schoolworks for instruction over all educational situations and conditions have a difficulty of traditional as well conventional dilemma. In conclusion, educational difficulty have formal, natural, original attribute and it is general and universal phenomenon.

This study investigated the effects of analyzing mapping errors on conceptual understanding, mapping understanding and perceptions of the instructions in learning chemistry concept with analogy. Seventh graders (N=121) at two middle schools were assigned to the comparison and the treatment groups, and were taught about 'states of matter and arrangement of molecules.' The students in the comparison group were taught in the Teaching-With-Analogy (TWA) model, while those in the treatment group Were taught in the instructional model that changed 'mapping similarity' and 'indicating difference' of the TWA model into 'analyzing mapping errors.' Analysis of the results revealed that the scores of the conception test and the mapping test for the treatment group were significantly higher than those far the comparison group regardless of field dependence-independence. It was also found that most students in the two groups positively perceived the instructions with analogy, but the students in the treatment group had difficulties in analyzing mapping errors, Educational implications are discussed.

This research intends to examine how 6th graders (age 12) conceptualize the area of geometric figures. In this research, 4 problems were given to 122 students, which the 4 problems correspond to understanding area concept, finding the area of geometric figures-including rectangular, parallelogram, and triangle, writing the area formula for finding area of geometric figures, and explaining the reason why the area formula holds. As the results of the study, we identified that students revealed the most low achievement in the understanding area concept, and lower achievement in explaining the reason why the area formula holds, writing the area formula, finding the area of geometric figures in order. In based on the results, we suggested the didactical implication for improving the students' conception about the area of geometric figures.
Purpose: Among the numerous clinical researches and following articles, there are few cases that apply proper methodology, which guarantees high reliability. By understanding the right concept and randomization of proper methods, research bias could be minimized. Materials and Methods: By reviewing the recently published articles about randomization, the basic concept and the necessity of applying the technique was described. Then proper methodologies for good randomization such as simple randomization, permuted-block randomization, and stratification were briefly introduced with examples. Results and Conclusion: Randomization lowers the possibility of bias and leads to higher reliability in clinical research. To obtain more reliable research results, understanding the right concept and proposition of proper methodologies of randomization is essential for researchers.
This study begins with the interests of the problems in learning a region under the Korean National Curriculum in geography field and the perceptions on the region which affects students 'formation of regional concept. The purposes of this study are to find problems in learning a region and to construct a new content for learning a region to improve the current problems. This study suggests that it is necessary for student to establish a clear concept on a region in order to effectively learn a region. Therefore, this study reviews how concepts on a region have changed and selects important elements in learning a region by considering a level of students' understanding. The important elements selected in this study are the definition of a region, the formation of a region, and the system of a region. By learning a real region established as a 'region for instruction' of a medium scale, students can reach an appropriate level of meaningful understanding of a region. This study found that an appropriate selection of scale in choosing the extent of a region was critical in success of effective organization of learning contents.

In this study, the effects of a teaching strategy based on interactive formative assessment on students' science concept understandings and science-related attitudes were investigated. Students' perceptions toward this teaching strategy were also examined. Eight classes chosen from a co-ed middle school in Seoul. Four classes were assigned to the experimental group and the other four classes were assigned to the control group. After the instructions, tests regarding students' conceptions and science-related attitudes were administered. We also interviewed 24 students randomly chosen from the experimental group to investigate their perceptions toward the teaching strategy used. The results showed that the teaching strategy used was more effective for enhancing students' science concept understandings. However, there was no significant difference in science-related attitudes between the two groups. For the experimental group, no significant differences were found in the gain scores of the conceptions tests between the subgroups by previous achievement or cognitive levels. From interviews, it was found that students thought that the teaching strategy used encouraged much interactions and motivated them to think, and that teacher's appropriate feedbacks were helpful to their understanding scientific concepts.

The purpose of this study is to investigate gifted students in elementary mathematics how they understand of situations involving multiplication and concepts of multiplication. For this purpose, first, this study analyzed the teacher's guidebooks about introducing the concept of multiplication in elementary school. Second, we analyzed multiplication problems that gifted students posed. Third, we interviewed gifted students to research how they understand the concepts of multiplication. The result of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the concept of multiplication was introduced by repeated addition and times idea in elementary school. Since the 2007 revised curriculum, it was introduced based on times idea. Second, gifted students mainly posed situations of repeated addition. Also many gifted students understand the multiplication as only repeated addition and have poor understanding about times idea and pairs set.
The purpose of this study was exploring instructive methods to make each gifted child's ability develop as more by selecting the dynamic method instead of existing static method in teaching and evaluating science-gifted students in elementary school and by analyzing conceptual change of electric circuit. In this research, 11 science-gifted students in primary school were chosen, and Dynamic Science Assessment(DSA) intended to comprehension of scientific electric circuit concept was performed as focusing on scaffolding aspects in order to find the transition process. And then, the features on transition process of students' concept were analyzed in quality. The results of the study were checked that the features of useful scaffolding input with respect to comprehending concepts of science gifted-students by using DSA. The less familiar to approach the subjects, the more presented numbers of scaffolding showed. As coming toward transition and same questions, scaffoldings (interactions) were declined because their level of transition was higher than before. Various ways were used in helping the students comprehend the concept on the method of connecting electric circuit and the emitting amount of current, which acted to adapt to daily life.
Present research is conducted for understanding the happiness of Korean people. In psychology, the happiness has been studied as subjective state which an individual perceives such as wellbeing(SWB) and satisfaction of life(SOL). However, the perceptions of people would be effected by their own culture, so the happiness has to be considered as a cultural concept. "Haengbok(幸福)", the Korean traditional concept of happiness has to be considered in various viewpoints. Many conditions will be needed to experience the feeling in Korea. However, in many cases, the "Haengbok" is formal expression. The practical term to express the feeling of happiness might be "Shinmyeong". Shinmyeong is one of the Korean unique positive feeling. The term Shinmyeong has been used widely in the context of celebrating happy life in Korean culture. According to former studies, Shinmyeong has influence not only on people's self esteem and self resiliency but on their SWB and SOL. The features and meanings of Shinmyeong is introduced and discussed to extend the discussion about happiness and culture.
