  • This paper is to develop the Korean Phonotactic Probability Calculator (KPPC) that anticipates the phonotactic probability in Korean. KPPC calculates the positional segment frequecncy, position-specific biphone frequency and position-specific triphone frequency. And KPPC also calculates the Neighborhood Density that is the number of words that sound similar to a target word. The Phonotactic Calculator that was developed in University of Kansas can be analyzed by the computer-readable phonemic transcription. This can calculate positional frequency and position-specific biphone frequency that were derived from 20,000 dictionary words. But KPPC calculates positional frequency, positional biphone frequency, positional triphone frequency and neighborhood density. KPPC can calculate by korean alphabet or computer-readable phonemic transcription. This KPPC can anticipate high phonotactic probability, low phonotactic probability, high neighborhood density and low neighborhood density.

  • We present the Exposure Time Calculator of IGRINS. The noises of IGRINS can be calculated from the combination of Telluric background emission and absorptions, the emission and transmission of the telescope and instrument optics, and the dark noise and the read noise of the infrared arrays. For the atmospheric transmissions, we apply the simulated spectra depending on the Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) values. The user needs to input the expected target magnitude, the weather conditions, and the desired exposure time. The output would be the expected signal-to-noise for each spectral resolution element.

  • The part-of-speech determination is necessary for resolving the part-of-speech ambiguity in English-Korean machine translation. The part-of-speech ambiguity causes high parsing complexity and makes the accurate translation difficult. In order to solve the problem, the resolution of the part-of-speech ambiguity must be performed after the lexical analysis and before the parsing. This paper proposes the CatAmRes model, which resolves the part-of-speech ambiguity, and compares the performance with that of other part-of-speech tagging methods. CatAmRes model determines the part-of-speech using the probability distribution from Bayesian network training and the statistical information, which are based on the Penn Treebank corpus. The proposed CatAmRes model consists of Calculator and POSDeterminer. Calculator calculates the degree of appropriateness of the partof-speech, and POSDeterminer determines the part-of-speech of the word based on the calculated values. In the experiment, we measure the performance using sentences from WSJ, Brown, IBM corpus.

  • Recently, the importance of participating in classes activity and cultivating student's thinking ability is emphasized in the mathematics education society. Teachers are demanded to change their teaching style centered pencile-and paper into using the variety instructional aids, such as calculator, video tape, computer, ohp, and projector, etc. In this paper, we search for the mathematica's function and the method that apply mathematical to the secondary school mathematics. Mathematical has many functions: calculator, algebra, graphics, animations, programing, notebook. We find that mathematica can be applied to the graph of function, the understand of simultaneous equations, the graph of trigonometry function, the calculation of limit, the computation of areas as limits, the derivative of a function and tangent line, a solid figure, and others in secondary school mathematics.

  • The reduction of cave survey data is an essentially straightforward but repetitive mathematical task which can be carried out to advantage using virtually any type of computer from a programmable calculator upwards. The obvious benefits are speed and accuracy in reducing and adjusting the raw data to obtain the x,y,z coordinates (eastings, northings and elevations) of the surveyed points. Additionally, depending on the functionality of the software (program) and power of the hardware (computer), the user may be able to build up a data base of surveys, plot out on paper scaled plans and elecations of the cave and possibly even see a three-dimensional model of the cave, in perspective or some other projection, as an aid to understanding the spatial relationships of cave passages.(omitted)

  • This paper presents a kinematic ephemeris generator for Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) and its performance test results. The kinematic ephemeris generator consists of a ground ephemeris compressor and an onboard ephemeris calculator. The ground ephemeris compressor has to compress desired orbit propagation data by using an interpolation method in a ground system. The onboard ephemeris calculator can generate spacecraft ephemeris and the Sun/Moon ephemeris in onboard computer of the KPLO. Among many interpolation methods, polynomial interpolation with uniform node, Chebyshev interpolation, Hermite interpolation are tested for their performances. As a result of the test, it is shown that all the methods have some cases that meet requirements but there are some performance differences. It is also confirmed that, the Chebyshev interpolation shows better performance than other methods for spacecraft ephemeris generation, and the polynomial interpolation with uniform nodes yields good performance for the Sun/Moon ephemeris generation. Based on these results, a Kinematic ephemeris generator is developed for the KPLO mission. Then, the developed ephemeris generator can find an approximating function using interpolation method considering the size and accuracy of the data to be transmitted.

  • Computer algebra system (CAS) calculators are becoming increasingly common in schools and universities. While Hey offer quite sophisticated mathematical capability to teachers and students, it is not clear at present how they may best be employed. In particular their integration into students' learning and problem-solving remains an issue. In this paper we address this issue through the lens of a study that considered the introduction of the TI-89 CAS calculator to students about to enter university. We describe a number of different aspects of the partnership they formed with the calculator as they began the process of instrumentation of the CAS in their learning.
