  • This paper makes an attempt to compare the two important methods for finding solutions of multi-item inventory problem with more than one conflicting objectives. Panda et al.[9] discusses a distance-based method to find the best possible compromise solution with variation of priority under the given weight structure. In this paper, the problem in [9] is revisited through the Pareto-optimal front of genetic algorithm with the help of a situation of retail stocking of FMCG business. The advantages of using the solutions from the perspective of the decision maker obtained through multi-objective optimization are highlighted in terms of population search, weighted goals and priority structure, cost, set of compromise solutions along with prevention of stock-out situation.

  • We consider the problem of assigning tasks to homogeneous nodes in the distributed system, so as to minimize the amount of communication, while balancing the processors' loads. This issue can be posed as the graph partitioning problem. Given an undirected graph G=(nodes, edges), where nodes represent task modules and edges represent communication, the goal is to divide n, the number of processors, as to balance the processors' loads, while minimizing the capacity of edges cut. Since these two optimization criteria conflict each other, one has to make a compromise between them according to the given task type. We propose a new cost function to evaluate static task assignments and a heuristic algorithm to solve the transformed problem, explicitly describing the tradeoff between the two goals. Simulation results show that our approach outperforms an existing representative approach for a variety of task and processing systems.

  • Almost all network systems provide an authentication mechanism based on user ID and password. In such system, it is easy to obtain the user password using a sniffer program with illegal eavesdropping. The one-time password and challenge-response method are useful authentication schemes that protect the user passwords against eavesdropping. In client/server environments, the one-time password scheme using time is especially useful because it solves the synchronization problem. It is the stability that is based on Square Root Problem, and we would like to suggest PBSI(Password Based Secure Identification), enhancing the stability, for all of the well-known attacks by now including Off-line dictionary attack, password file compromise, Server and so on. The PBSI is also excellent in the aspect of the performance.

  • Several fuzzy approaches can be considered for solving multi-objective transportation problem. This paper presents a fuzzy goal programming approach to determine an optimal compromise solution for the multiobjective transportation problem. We assume that each objective function has a fuzzy goal. Also we assign a special type of nonlinear (hyperbolic) membership function to each objective function to describe each fuzzy goal. The approach focuses on minimizing the negative deviation variables from 1 to obtain a compromise solution of the multiobjective transportation problem. We show that the proposed method and the fuzzy programming method are equivalent. In addition, the proposed approach can be applied to solve other multiobjective mathematical programming problems. A numerical example is given to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed approach.

  • In channels of distribution, buyers and vendors are often in conflict. In order 새 resolve conflicts, they usually use three types of strategies: problem solving, compromise and aggressive. Previous studies have focused on the choice of these three strategies. Nevertheless, it is unknown whether the strategies chosen in the early stage are maintained or changed over time. This articles main focus in on testing how the strategies are being affected by conflict resolution processed. Based on the literature review, six hypotheses are formulated. Data obtained from sixty-eight buyers of four different department stores are analyzed. Three hypotheses are fully accepted, two are partially accepted and one is rejected. Problem solving strategy and compromise strategy are either maintained or changed, but aggressive strategy is maintained, not changed. Since the nature of this study is exploratory, more empirical research is urgently needed.

  • The primary objective of this paper is to develop an interactive computer graphic aided decision su, pp.rt system for the design of inspection plans for complex production systems. This research first develops a computer simulator, called Simulator for Inspection Systems(SIS), in order to represent the production system as a network model. The simulator elicits fundamental information about the system from the decision maker(DM) in an interactive manner. A decision su, pp.rt system is then proposed by combining SIS and Compromise Programming. The system simulates a set of possible inspection strategies implicitly, observes all the important measurements about the inspection system, and employs the compromise programming a, pp.oach to help the DM determine the best compromising allocation of inspection effort considering his/her preferences. Finally, the performance of the proposed system is evaluated using two test cases. The pros and cons of the system are also discussed.

  • Taguchi´s parameter design is to determine the optimal settings of design parameters of a product or a process such that the characteristics of a product exhibit small variabilities around their targer values. His analysis of the problem has focused only on a single characteristic or response. However the quality of most products is seldom defined by a characteristic, and is rather the composite of a great number of characteristics which are often interrelated and nearly always measured in a variety of units. The critical problem in dealing with multiple characteristics is how to compromise the conflict among the selected levels of the design parameters for each individual characteristic. In this paper, Methodology using SN ratio optimized by unvariate technique is proposed and a parameter design procedure to achieve the optimal compromise among several different response variables is developed. One existing case study is solved by the proposed method and the results are compared with ones by the sum of SN ratios, the expected weighted loss, the desirability functions, and EXTOPSIS model.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the fitness according to drafting method of the block patterns for women in Korea. The major findings of this study are as follows: 1. According to each sensory test of the frontal view, back view, side view and silhouette Block Pattern I is the best of them in summation of the sensory tests score. Block, Pattern D and I have good shape too. However the best block Pattern D shows good score in evaluation of overall fitness and silhouette. 2. Most of block patterns, which show high scores in sensory tests, are the Compromise Method taking merits of the Proportional Method and Short Measure Method among the Pattern Drafting Methods. Box-shape patterns show low score in the sensory tests. 3. Regarding to the number of measurement, the patterns of the Compromise Method using 6-8 measurements seem to be optimal. In degree of fitness, loose fit type basic patterns are better than other patterns from a viewpoint of the total satisfaction.

  • The critical problem in dealing with multiple characteristics is how to compromise the conflict among the selected levels of the design parameters for each individual characteristic. In this study, First, Methodology using SN ratio optimized by univariate technique is proposed and a parameter design procedure to achieve the optimal compromise among several different response variables is developed. Second, to solve the issue on the optimal design for multiple quality characteristics, this study modelled the expected loss function with cross-product terms among the characteristics and derived range of the coefficients of the terms. The model will be used to determine the global optimal design parameters where there exists the conflict among the characteristics, which shows difference in optimal design parameters for the individual characteristics. Third, this paper propose a decision model to incorporates the values assigned by a group of experts on different factors in weighting decision of characteristic. Using this model, SN ratio of taguchi method for each of subjective factors as well as values of weights are used in this comprehensive method for weighting decision of characteristic.
