  • Reactive oxygen species play an important role in aging. carcinogenesis, and certain neurological disorders of human beings in addition to the host-defensive mechanism of inflammatory response. Murine macrophages Raw264.7 released superoxide anions via NADPH oxidase complex and nitric oxide (NO) via iNOS synthase when the cells were stimulated with unopsonized zymosan binding to complement receptor. • Peroxynitrite (ONOO), a potent cytotoxic oxidant formed by the reaction of nitric oxide (ㆍNO) and superoxide radical (ㆍO$_2$), reacts rapidly to cause of oxidization and nitration process. The importance of the regulation of ONOO$^{-}$ has been recently recognized because of the lack of specific endogenous enzymes against ONOO$^{-}$. Coffee that is a complex mixture containing a variety of components has been reported to have both beneficial and hazardous effects.

  • The lithium ion concentration dependant ionic conductivity and thermal properties of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA)/acrylonitrile-based copolymer electrolytes with $LiClO_4$ have been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and AC complex impedance measurements. In systems with 11 wt% of acrylonitrile all liquid electrolytes were obtained regardless of lithium ion concentration. Complex impedance measurements with stainless steel electrodes give ambient ionic conductivities $8.1\times10^{-6}\sim1.4\times10^{-4}S cm^{-1}$. On the other hand, a hard and soft films at ambient temperature were obtained in copolymer electrolyte system consists of 15 wt% acrylonitrile with 6 : 1 and 3 : 1 of [EO] : [Li] ratio, respectively. DSC measurements indicate the crystalline melting temperature of poly(PEGMA) disappeared completely after addition of $LiClO_4$ in this system due to the complex formation between ethylene oxide (EO) unit and lithium salt. As a result, free standing film with room temperature ionic conductivity of $1.7\times10^{-4}S cm^{-1}$ and high electrochemical stability up to 5.5V was obtained by controlling of acrylonitrile and lithium salt concentration.

  • The more productive and stable fabrication can be obtained by applying chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process to shallow trench isolation (STI) structure in 0.18 $\mu\textrm{m}$ semiconductor device. However, STI-CMP process became more complex, and some kinds of defect such as nitride residue, tern oxide defect were seriously increased. Defects like nitride residue and silicon damage after STI-CMP process were discussed to accomplish its optimum process condition. In this paper, we studied how to reduce torn oxide defects and nitride residue after STI-CMP process. To understand its optimum process condition, We studied overall STI-related processes including trench depth, STI-fill thickness and post-CMP thickness. As an experimental result showed that as the STI-fill thickness becomes thinner, and trench depth gets deeper, more tern oxide were found in the CMP process. Also, we could conclude that low trench depth whereas high CMP thickness can cause nitride residue, and high trench depth and over-polishing can cause silicon damage.

  • Natural surfactins are a mixture of isoforms that differ slightly in their physiological properties. In previous research, we obtained surfactin A, B, C, and D from the Bacillus subtilis complex BC1212. We found that surfactin C inhibited nitric oxide (NO)-production and suppressed the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine mRNA, which was stimulated by $1{\mu}g/ml$ of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in murine RAW264.7 cells. In order to compare the anti-inflammatory effects of surf actin isoforms, we examined the inhibition of LPS-induced NO production and the pro-inflammatory cytokine expression level. Surfactin C inhibited the LPS-induced NO production in murine macrophage RAW264.7 cells the most. In addition, surf actin C was superior to other surfactin's subtypes regarding inhibiting the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1). Finally, the anti-inflammatory activity of surf actin C is the most potent, compared with surfactin A, B, and D.

  • $[Mn_{12}O_{12}(O_2CPh-4-SMe)_{16}(H_2O)_4]{\cdot}7CH_2Cl_2$ (1), a new single-molecule magnet complex has been successfully synthesized by substitution of acetate ligand of Mn12ac with 4-(methylthio)benzoic acid. Complex 1 crystallizes into triclinic P$\overline{1}$ with a = 18.321(3) $\AA$, b = 19.011(3) $\AA$, c = 27.230(4) $\AA$, $\alpha$ = 86.973(3)$^{\circ}$, $\beta$ = 76.919(3)$^{\circ}$, $\gamma$ = 87.613(3)$^{\circ}$, and Z = 2. In complex 1, one Mn(III) ion has an abnormal Jahn-Teller elongation axis oriented at an oxide ion. Complex 1 has two out-of-phase ac susceptibility peaks in the 2-4 K and 4-7 K regions. Effective anisotropy energy barrier and pre-exponential factor are $U_{eff}$ = 45.95 K, 1/$\tau$0 = 8.6 ${\times}\;10^9s^{-1}\;for\;{\chi}_M$'' peaks in the lower temperature region and $U_{eff}$ = 59.45 K, 1/$\tau_0$ = 2.2 ${\times}\;10^8\;s^{-1}$ for $\chi_M$'' peaks in the higher temperature region. The parameters of S = 10, g = 1.87, D = -0.40 $cm^{-1}$, and E = 0.00034 $cm^{-1}$ were obtained from the M/N${\mu}_B$ vs. H/T plot of complex 1.

  • The Ln(III) complexes with picrate ligand, $[Sm(Pic)_2(H_2O)_6]Pic{\cdot}6H_2O$, 1, and $[Ho(Pic)(H_2O)_7](Pic)_2{\cdot}3H_2O$, 2, have been synthesized and their crystal structures are analyzed by X-ray diffraction methods. Complex 1, crystallizes in the monoclinic $P2_1/n$ space group and complex 2 in the triclinic P-1 space group. In complex 1, two picrate ligands coordinate to the Sm(III) ion, one of them in the bidentate fashion. There are one picrate anion and six water molecules in the crystal lattice. The nine-coordinated Sm(III) ion forms a slightly distorted tricapped trigonal prism. In complex 2, only one picrate ligand coordinates to the metal ion as a monodentate. There are two picrate anions and three water molecules in the crystal lattice. The eight-coordinated Ho(III) ion forms a distorted bicapped trigonal prism. Based on the results of the TG-DTG and DSC thermal analysis, it was analyzed that the lanthanide picrate complexes 1 and 2 are thermally decomposed in three distinctive stages, the dehydration, the picrate decomposition, and the formation of the metal oxide.
