  • Heterotopic ossification (HO) within the substance of the subscapularis tendon is a rare lesion which remains a poorly described condition with little known of the exact mechanisms involved. Furthermore, its clinical importance remains still unclear. To our knowledge, there are no studies present to data regarding HO within the substance of the subscapularis tendon, even with resultant isolated complete tear of the subscapularis tendon. Here we present a case of huge HO associated with unusual isolated complete tear of subscapularis tendon concomitant with tear of biceps long head tendon. After arthroscopic debridement for the complete tear site of biceps long head tendon, mini-open excision of the ossification and subscapularis repair with suture anchor fixation were performed. The patient showed complete recovery of strength and function of the subscapularis at subsequent 24 months follow up.

  • This paper describes an efficient algorithm to generate compact and complete prompts lists for connected spoken digits database. In building a connected spoken digit recognizer, we have to acquire speech data in various contexts. However, in many speech databases the lists are made by using random generators. We provide an efficient algorithm that can generate compact and complete lists of digits in various contexts. This paper includes the proof of optimality and completeness of the algorithm.

  • Information systems and decision rules with imprecision and uncertainty in data analysis are studied in complete residuated lattices. In this paper, we introduce the notions of distance spaces, Alexandrov pretopology (precotopology) and join-meet (meet-join) operators in complete co-residuated lattices. We investigate their relations and properties. Moreover, we give their examples.

  • Speech intelligibility in patients with complete dentures is an important clinical problem depending on the material used. The objective of this study was to investigate the speech of two edentulous subjects fitted with a complete maxillary prosthesis made of two different palatal materials: chrome-cobalt alloy and acrylic resin. Three patients with complete dentures in the experiment group and ten people in the controls groups participated in the experiment. CSL, Visi-Pitch were used to measure speech characteristics. The test words consisted of a simple vowel /e/, meaningless three syllabic words containing fricative, affricated and stops sounds, and sustained fricative sounds /s/ and /$\int$/. The analysis speech parameters were vowel and lateral formants, VOT, sound durations, sound pressure level and fricative frequency. Data analysis was conducted by a series of paired T-test. The findings like the following: (1) Vowel formant one of patients with complete denture is higher than that of the control group (p<0.05), while lateral formant three of patients with complete denture is lower than that of the control group (p<0.0l). (2) Patients with complete denture produced lower speech intelligibility with low fricative frequency (/$\int$/) than control group (p<0.0). The speech intelligibility of patients with metal prosthesis was higher than that of those with resin prosthesis (p<0.05). (3) Fricative, lateral and stop sound durations of patients with complete denture were longer than those of the control group (p<0.01 and p<0.05), respectively. Total sound durations of patients with metal prosthesis were similar to that of the control group (p<0.05), while those with resin prosthesis had a shorter duration (p<0.01). This implied that those with metal prosthesis had higher speech intelligibility than those with resin prosthesis. (4) Patients with complete denture had higher sound pressure levels /t/ and /c/ than the control group (p<0.01). However, sound pressure levels for /c/ of patients with metal prosthesis or resin prosthesis was similar to the control group (p<0.05). (5) Patients with complete denture had higher fundamental frequency than the control group (p<0.01).

  • This paper describes the results of complete Bouguer anomalies computed from the Free-air anomalies that derived from Sandwell and DNSC08 mairne gravity models. Complete bouguer corrections consist of three parts: the bouguer correction (Bullard A), the curvature correction (Bullard B) and the terrain correction (Bullard C). These all corrections have been computed over the East Sea on a $1'{\times}1'$ elevation data (topography and bathymetry) derived from ETOPO1 global relief model. In addition, a constant topographic (sea-water) density of $2,670kg/m^3$ ($1,030kg/m^3$) has been used for all correction terms. The distribution of complete bouguer anomalies computed from DNSC08 are -34.390 ~ 267.925 mGal, and those from Sandwell are -32.446 ~ 266.967 mGal in East Sea. The mean and RMSE value of the difference between DNSC08 and Sandwell is $0.036{\pm}2.373$ mGal. The highest value of complete bouguer anomaly are found around the region of $42{\sim}43^{\circ}N$ and $137{\sim}139^{\circ}E$ (has the lowest bathymetry) in both models. Theses values show that the gravity distribution of both models, DNSC08 and Sandwell, are very similar. They indicate that satellite-based marine gravity model can be effectively used to analyze the geophysical, geological and geodetic characteristics in East Sea.

  • Some results relating to $C_{0}(R)\;and\;L^{1}(R)$ spaces with application to kernel density estimators will be introduced. First, random elements in $C_{0}(R)\;and\;L^{1}(R)$ are discussed. Then, complete convergence limit theorems are given to show that these results can be used in establishing uniformly consistency and $L^{1}$ consistency.

  • This study introduces a complete feature map building method of sonar sensors for mobile robots. This method enhances the reality of feature maps by extracting even circle features as well as line and point features from sonar data. Edge features are, moreover, generated by combining line features close to circle features extracted around comer sites. The uncertainties of the specular reflection phenomenon and wide beam width of sonar data can be, therefore, reduced through this map building method. The experimental results demonstrate a practical validity of the proposed method in those environments.

  • Bechhofer and Tamhane(1981) proposed Balanced Treatment Incomplete Block (BTIB) desings for comparing p test treatments with a control treatment in blocks of size ${\kappa}$. Notz and Tamhane(1983) solved the problem about determination of the minimal complete class for ${\kappa}=3$. However there are a number of design parameters for which BTIB designs do not exist. We suggest a new class of designs called Group Divisible Treatment Desings(GDTD's) that is a larger class including BTIB designs as a subclass. In this paper we give the minimal complete classes of generator designs for GDTD's with ${\kappa}=2,\;p{\geq}4(except\;prime\;number)\;and\;{\kappa}=3,\;p=4(2)6$.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to obtain basic data on oral health improvement by investigating the EQ-5D index according to the oral prosthesis status of elderly persons aged 65 years or older in Korea using the Seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Methods: In this study, 3,426 elderly persons aged 65 years or older were included to analyze the relationship between the dental prostheses status and EQ-5D index in the collected data. Results: Compared to the "complete denture" in oral prosthesis, EQ in case of no dental prostheses or fixed dental prostheses is comparable to removable prosthetics such as "no dental prostheses," "one fixed bridge," and "two or more fixed bridges." Removable partial denture and complete denture required for the maxillary and mandibular EQ-5D index were significantly higher in "not necessary" than in "complete denture necessary" in all the elderly persons. Conclusion: The condition of the dental prosthesis and the need for a removable partial denture and complete denture for the elderly's EQ-5D index were confirmed, and it was found that the fixed dental prostheses were more effective than the removable dental prostheses. Therefore, oral health education programs for the elderly should be developed to promote dental function and oral health maintenance.
