The Quaternary palynoflora from Cheongsu core, drilled on the western part of the Jeju Island, consists mainly of deciduous broad-leaved angiosperms and herbs. Dominant taxa are Pinaceae, Alnus, Castanea/Castanopsis, Ulmus/Zelkova, Chenopodiaceae and Compositae. Based on palynofloral composition, two palynostratigraphic zones are recognized. Zone I is characterized by a predominance of Alnus and Chenopodiaceae, and by the abundance of herbs. Zone II is dominated by conifers and deciduous broad-leaved angiosperms, including Abies, Taxodiaceae-Cupressaceae-Taxaceae, Ulmus/Zelkova and Gramineae. The Cheongsu palynoflora can be correlated with Alnipollenites(Alnus)-Chenopodipollis(Chenopodiaceae)-Compositae Assemblage Zone of the East China Sea and is assigned to the Pleistocene in age. Ecology of main taxa and comparison with the present vegetation of Korea suggest a cool temperate climate and a low relief in the Jeju Island during the deposition of the Cheongsu core sediments.

The outbreak of viral diseases caused by viral haemorrhagic septicaemia virus (VHSV) and red seabream iridovirus (RSIV) have been reported in cultured olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus. VHSV has been a serious viral disease that infects the olive flounders in South Korea. Clinical signs of VHSV infection are skin darkening, abdominal distension and haemorrhages. Outbreaks of fish iridoviral disease was first reported from red seabream, Pagrus major farms in Japan. Recently, iridovirus infection have occurred frequently from olive flounder farms in South Korea. In this study, disease surveillance was performed to monitor the prevalence of VHSV and RSIV in olive flounder in 2014. The samples were collected from 60 different olive flounder farms in Jeju from April, May, September, November and December in 2014. RT-PCR (VHSV) or PCR (RSIV) results showed that VHSV were detected in 5 farms, but RSIV has not been detected in any farms. The migration of olive flounder was restricted for the quarantine in 5 farms of VHS outbreak. The nucleocapsid protein (N) gene and glycoprotein (G) gene sequences of the 5 Korean VHSV isolates were successfully amplified and sequenced. Phylogenetic analysis was performed using the VHSV sequences reported here together comparison with the nucleotide sequences available from the GenBank database. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that most of Korea VHSV belong to the genotype IVa and closely related to the strains from Japan and China.
The globalization of Korean food has long been an important agenda for both the Korean government and food-related firms, and there have been many trials and errors because of cultural differences in food consumption habits. This study explores Chinese consumers' purchase behaviors toward chicken menus, and for a better understanding of these behaviors, the study considers differences in consumer behavior in between Chinese and Korean consumers around Daejeon, South Korea. The sample included a total of 232 respondents who provided information on their purchase behaviors toward chicken menus. A total of 13 purchasing attributes were compared through a t-test, and according to the results, there were significant differences in 6 attributes: "like the taste" (p<0.001), "as a side dish for drinks" (p<0.001), "to feel good" (p<0.01), "like all chicken dishes" (p<0.05), "for health" (p<0.05), and "low prices" (p<0.05). The results for chicken consumption indicate significant differences in frequency (p<0.05), goals (p<0.01), and expected fair prices (p<0.05). These results suggest that, to make Korean chicken dishes a global Korean menu, future research should focus on consumers' motives for purchasing chicken menus, satisfaction, and characteristics. The generalizability of the results may be limited because the survey was conducted by considering only those students in the Daejeon area. Future research should include a wider range of consumers in both Korea and China for better strategic plans for food-related firms.
This study is aimed to evaluate the technology levels of shellfish farming in southern coast of Korea and status analysis on research of shellfish aquaculture. With achieving these objectives, it will be possible to present the direction of shellfish farming research and related project. Five major breed of shellfish aquaculture that would be adaptive and sustainable were proposed through consultation and agreement with professional group with more than 15 years of working experience. Moreover also evaluated that levels of technology, industry and market are also evaluated. The evaluation result of the expert group showed that the shellfish farming level occupied the third place in comparison with the US, Japan, Europe, and China. It is estimated that about 13~14 years will reach the level of the highest on average. In addition, most countries are expected to grow by about 10% on average over the next five years. Based on the result of the analysis of 670 research projects (2008~2017), there was little research on climate change and shellfish aquaculture. Besides some of shellfish have not been studied since 2008 and 2013, so it can be mentioned as a future task to be overcome.

Korea's main manufacturing industries, which have led its economy for the past three decades, are faced with a serious downturn and loss of competitive advantages due to the current economic depression, China's rise, and the drop of oil prices. Korean business firms must adopt the paradigm shift in their value strategies, along with a government-led industrial restructuring in order to gain sustainable competitive advantages. Business firms allocate their limited resources between value creation and value appropriation, however, what effect does strategic emphasis on value creation versus value appropriation have on a business firm's financial performance? This paper empirically addresses this issue by examining the effect of shifts in strategic emphasis on stock return. Furthermore, this study examines appropriate choices of strategic emphasis to gain differential financial performance. The data set used in this regression analysis comes from the KISLINE database of NICE Information Service. The variables that form the basis of this analysis are stock return, ROA, and Strategic Emphasis [(advertising expenditures-R&D expenditures)/assets]. The interactive effect with situational factors regarding the firm and the type of technological environment in which the firm is operating was also analyzed. Our results show that investors acknowledge a shift of strategic emphasis as a sign of stock valuation. In comparison to US, Korean business firms have weak value creation capabilities in high-technology industries, and weak value appropriation capabilities in low-technology industries. This proves Korean firms are fast followers in the global market. Our findings suggest that Korean firms have to adopt a balanced value strategy, nurturing value creation and developing value appropriation for overcoming the current economic downturn and becoming a first mover in the dawn of "Industry 4.0."
An empirical study was conducted on fashion cultural products, targeting foreigners from diverse cultures. Its purpose was to identify foreigners' attitudes toward fashion cultural products of which design sources were derived from the Korean culture. The quantitative research using questionnaires was targeted at Americans, Chinese and Japanese who visited Korea. The questionnaires were back-translated into different languages for completion by the test subjects. Out of a total of 424 surveys returned, 393 were deemed usable. As a result of data analyses using SPSS 12.0 and AMOS 5.0, we found that: First, two attitude factors, the authenticity and aesthetic elements, exerted a significant effect on the intent to purchase. However, the last attitude factor, care and carriage convenience, did not significantly influence the purchase intention. Second, there was no significant difference in the attributes regarded as important when purchasing fashion cultural product between people from the U.S. and Japan. However, people from China showed differences in the attributes compared to the U.S. and Japan. Third, we found that attitudes toward fashion cultural products were different among respondents of three countries. It was revealed that the Chinese liked Korea's fashion cultural products the most, followed by Americans and Japanese. This research is significant because investigating foreigners' attitudes toward fashion cultural products for reaching out to a broader market abroad would contribute to help building an market entry planning.
The rapid development of the mobile internet has gradually changed the carrier of electronic games from PC to mobile. mobile games have become an excellent choice for many people to spend their spare time and enjoy life. Among many types of mobile games, Number of users of FPS games has increased rapidly in recent years. Based on the 《Emotional Design》 proposed by Donald Norman, this article compares the interaction design of China's most popular FPS game 《Game for peace》 and Korea's most popular FPS game 《PUBG》, and analyzes their similarities and differences, and then use that as a basis to summarize the three levels of emotional design-Visceral level, Behavior level, and Reflection level, which is the user interface, interaction mode, and interaction experience in interaction design Emotional expression on the two games. This theory provides suggestions for interactive design in the information industry such as mobile games.

This study analyzes the current state of entrepreneurship education and start-up foundations by country in order to find ways to improve the domestic entrepreneurial environment and to promote the recognition of desirable entrepreneurship practices. It also investigates the relationship between entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial will, and the level of opportunity-based entrepreneurships, by using data from the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Trend Report (GETR). First, the results show the urgent need for the expansion of entrepreneurship education in Korea. In the GETR category of 'experience of entrepreneurship education in elementary, middle and high schools', Korea was ranked very low (19th place), among the 20 countries. In the 'college' and 'lifelong entrepreneurship education' categories, it procured a mid-level ranking (15th). While entrepreneurship education for all ages is being promoted globally, entrepreneurship education for middle-aged individuals in Korea is relatively weak. This implies that the expansion of entrepreneurship education to lifelong education and education for employees and retirees is required. Second, the individual's entrepreneurial intention in Korea was 3.8 points, implying a mid-level ranking (15th), and it ranked the lowest in terms of opportunity-based entrepreneurship (20th). In comparison to China (4.55) and the United States (4.01), the entrepreneurial intention of Koreans was found to be low. The level of opportunity-driven entrepreneurship was also found to be very low, compared to China (4.35), Japan (4.04) and the United States (4.59). In general, the proportion of the level in opportunity-driven entrepreneurship, increases from the factor-driven and efficiency-driven, to the innovation-driven type. In Korea, the percentage of entrepreneurial ventures centered around involuntary entrepreneurship and small businesses is high. It is also interpreted that opportunity-based entrepreneurships are low in number because of this high proportion of involuntary start-up and small businesses. Last, the entrepreneurial intention in all types (factor-driven, efficiency-driven, and innovation-driven) was exceptionally high. It has been confirmed that exposure to all entrepreneurship education (elementary, junior high, university, and lifelong education) in innovation-driven countries, greatly increases entrepreneurial intention. In the case of Korea, which is an innovation-driven country, qualitative improvement based on quantitative expansion of entrepreneurship education is expected to be a major driving force for individuals' entrepreneurial intention to obtain a mid-level ranking (15th).
In this study, we investigated the time signal devices of Deungnu (circa 1270) and Gungnu (1354), the water clocks produced during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). These clocks influenced Heumgyeonggaknu (1438) of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), exemplifying the automatic water clocks of the Yuan Dynasty. Deungnu, Gungnu, and Heumgyeonggaknu can be considered as automatic mechanical clocks capable of performances. The Jega-Yeoksang-Jip (Collection of Calendrical and Astronomical Theories of Various Chinese Masters) contains records of Deungnu extracted from the History of the Yuan Dynasty. We interpreted these records and analyzed reproduction models and technical data previously produced in China. The time signal device of Deungnu featured a four-story structure, with the top floor displaying the four divine constellations, the third floor showcasing models of these divinities, the second floor holding 12-h jacks and a 100-Mark ring, and the first floor with four musicians and a 100-Mark Time-Signal Puppet providing a variety of visual attractions. We developed a 3D model of Deungnu, proposing two possible mechanical devices to ensure that the Time-Signal Puppet simultaneously pointed to the 100-Mark graduations in the east, west, south, and north windows: one model reduced the rotation ratio of the 100-Mark ring to 1/4, whereas the other model maintained the rotation ratio using four separate 100-Mark rings. The power system of Deungnu was influenced by Suunuisangdae (the water-driven astronomical clock tower) of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127); this method was also applied to Heumgyeonggaknu in the Joseon Dynasty. In conclusion, these automatic water clocks of East Asia from the 13th to 15th centuries symbolized creativity and excellence, representing scientific devices that were the epitome of clock-making technology in their times.
In the modern society in which globalization and localization proceed simultaneously, diversified and rapid migration of diaspora makes a new from of boundary off the frame of the state and the nation. This new border accompanies cultural change and racial mixture; retains ethnic conflict, the gap between rich and poor, alienation and discrimination, as well as power conflict; and extends its influence. Nowadays, the countries all over the world including Korea face problem of Diaspora in numerous forms. And each country takes an approach to the problem of the diaspora in the aspects of their society, culture and political technology. This implies that most countries, without understanding the new form of border which is alive and dynamic, define and conceptualize the diaspora in the frame of one state and one nation to carry forward the policies accordingly, resulting in inequal, incomplete and awkward homogenization. This study aimed to explore the identity of the diaspora, the core for the problem solving. Of course, studies about the identity of the diaspora have been continued until today and many great outcomes have been achieved. Nevertheless, this study aimed to explore the identity of the diaspora and the national policies which have a close interrelationship with it. It is because the study ultimately aimed to highlight the interrelationship between the destination countries, Russia and China, and the diaspora, through the definition and the classification of Russian diaspora and Chinese diaspora and the analysis of the national policies about that. However, the intention was not to distinguish superiority through the comparison of the polices about the diaspora between two countries, but to focus on the diversity of the identity of the diaspora through defining each different diaspora and paralleling the policies. Second, the reason for looking into the diaspora policies of these two countries is because it is judged the changes in the diaspora policies of each country is one of the active factors for the changes in the identify of the diaspora of each country and it is the basic research for the study on the identity of the diaspora. New migration of diaspora changes the identity of the state, and the state makes the policies and enforce the policies, resulting in the influence on the diaspora. This interaction acts as the growth factor for the new boundary. The causes of Russian diaspora and Chinese diaspora show apparent 'differences'. In parallel with this, the policies about the diaspora in Russia and China arouse 'differences' to the diaspora. The variation of the identity of the diaspora made by these differences will suggest other viewpoints on the diaspora, and these viewpoints will become the foundation for solving the problem of the diaspora in the present times.
