  • Since smart phones are widely used globally, the demand for high-speed mobile communications are increasing. To accommodate the increased communication demand, the next-generation mobile communication services such as LTE-Advanced are deployed. In the LTE-Advanced base stations, the base station schemes of Digital Unit (DU) and Radio Unit (RU) are widely used. Here, the link between DU and RU is called fronthaul link. In the current fronthaul link, a digital optical communication interface is used, which is called Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI). However, the CPRI link cannot support the increased mobile traffic efficiently. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate an alternative technology based on the Radio over Fiber (RoF) to accommodate the increased mobile traffic economically.

  • This study applies the 'interface' as the concept to interpret the facade design of parking garages. This study investigates the characteristics of interface design in the parking garages to improve design qualities of parking garages as a daily living space as well as a public space in today's city. The facade of parking garage is an interface between the urban streets and the parking space. Three concepts of interface and design in parking garage are defined. The concept of interface is explained as a boundary surface which activates communication and interaction. In facade design of parking garage, three main concepts of interface design are screen, communication and mobility. Through the investigation of the examples, this study summarizes the characteristics of the facade design of parking garage as follow; first, the facade of parking garage is designed as a screen which represents immateriality by specially selected and arranged surface materials. The screen facade is designed as one homogeneous surface as well as an irregular pattern with operable louvers. Second, the facade of parking garage is designed as a communication media to deliver direct information. The representation of natural or artificial characteristics at the local areas is to communicate with the people in the community. Third, the facade of parking garage is represented mobility which a car symbolizes. It emphasizes various movements and visual changes by movements. People can experience the visual changes of the building facade as they walk or drive. The visual changes of the facade are caused by natural elements such as wind and light as well as an optical illusion.

  • Tele-Gesture is a tangible user interface(TUI) device that allows a user to physically point to a 3D object in real life and have their gestures play back by a robotic finger that can point to the same object, either at the same time, or at another point in time. To understand the extent of the gestures as new way of digital collaborative communication, collaboration situation and types were experimented as TUI implementations. The design prototype reveals that there is a rich non-verbal component of communication in the form of gesture-clusters and body movements that happen in an digital communication. This result of analysis can contribute to compile relevant contributions to the fields of communication, human behavior, and interaction with high technology through an interpretive social experience.

  • Today, the utilization of communication devices is being increased including information terminals, cell phones, handheld personal digital assistants (PDA) caused by the development of information and communication technology. The development of information and services is speeding up, whereas most communication devices have provided a inefficient hierarchical menu and sequential searching structure. In this study, the Adaptive User Interface is applied to the Bus Information Terminal(BIT) which is one of communication equipment installed in the bus stop. It will be based on analysis of unspecified individuals' preferences and user's directly personalization in the BIT prototype. We expect the results of this study to be possible to provide users with efficient and convenient information acquisition and contribute to the development of public transport use by improving the accessibility and usability of BIT.

  • Recently, various industrial embedded systems including vehicles controlled electronically are evolving to distributed multi-micro controller system. Accordingly, there is a need for standard CAN(Controller Area Network) protocol that ensures high stability and reliability of communication and is simple to construct object-oriented system with high control efficiency. CAN communication interface used general-purpose processor doesn't have many limitations in various application development because of fixed hardware architecture. This paper design and implement a CAN communication interface system based on FPGA. It is verified function and performance of system through monitoring communication with existing AT90CAN128 controller. Implemented CAN communication interface can be reused in development of application systems based on FPGA. And it provides low-cost, small-size and low-power design advantages.

  • In a Satellite communication system, a link budget analysis is the detailed investigation of signal gains and losses moving through a channel from a sender to receiver. It inspects the fading of passed on data signal waves due to the process of spreading or propagation, including transmitter and receiver antenna gains, feeder cables, and related losses. The extent of the proposed tool is to make an effective, efficient, and user-friendly approach to calculate link budget analysis. It is also related to the satellite communication correlation framework by building up a graphical interface link analysis tool utilizing STK® software with the interface of C# programming. It provides better kinds of graphical display techniques, exporting and importing data files, printing link information, access data, azimuth-elevation-range (AER), and simulation is also possible at once. The components of the link budget analysis tool include transmitter gain, effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP), free space loss, propagation loss, frequency Doppler shift, flux density, link margin, elevation plot, etc. This tool can be useful for amateur users (e.g., CubeSat developers in the universities) or nanosat developers who may not know about the RF communication system of the satellite and the orbital mechanics (e.g., orbit propagators) principle used in the satellite link analysis.
