  • Background: Urban bus drivers work under conditions that are among the most demanding, stressful, and unhealthy with higher rates of mortality and morbidity as well as absenteeism and turnover. Methods: Drawing on the job demand-resource model, this study investigates the impacts of job characteristics on emotional exhaustion and the effects of emotional exhaustion on job outcomes (including job satisfaction, life satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intention) in the context of bus drivers. Results: Using self-reported survey data collected from a sample of 320 Taiwanese urban bus drivers, results reveal that role overload and work-family conflict (as job demand factors) positively relate to emotional exhaustion, and organizational support (as a job resource factor) is negatively associated with emotional exhaustion. Emotional exhaustion has negative effects on both job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Job satisfaction positively leads to life satisfaction, whereas organizational commitment negatively relates to turnover intention. Conclusion: This study concludes that role overload and work-family conflict as two stressors related to job demands and organizational support as the job resource factor to affect emotional exhaustion which further influence well-being in bus driver context. The moderating effects of both extraversion and neuroticism on the relationship between job demands and emotional exhaustion are evident.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the concept of manner leadership for adolescents based on the manner of the East and leadership of the West. Also, it is to investigate the influence of manner leadership on happiness of adolescents. For this, manner leadership was developed through literature review, focus group interview, empirical study, in-depth interview, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. The sub-dimensions of manner leadership consisted of time management, academic performance, goal attainment and citizenship behavior, communication, family relationship, social relationship, image management and conflict resolution. The data were obtained by administering a self-reported questionnaire to high school students residing in Seoul. Statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS and AMOS. The main results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, the level of the adolescents' manner leadership tended to be more than average. In addition, they were good at image management but time management was absolutely lacking among the sub-dimension of manner leadership. On the other hand, it appeared that the adolescents' happiness level was lower than the manner leadership. Second, the result of the study was that the manner leadership was positively correlated with happiness of adolescents. Finally, happiness of adolescents was affected on these variables, such as grade, self-efficacy, emotional intimacy between mother and adolescent, time management, goal attainment, communication, and family relationship. Based on this study, it is expected that the manner leadership programs for enhancing happiness for adolescents would be developed.

  • This study showed that the association between solidarity and conflict is mediated by the communication of grandmothers and an adult child at the dyadic level. The common fate model (CFM) was designed to model mediation effects at the level of dyads. Participants consisted of 297 grandmother dyads and their adult child who were rearing preschool-aged grandchildren in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. For analysis at the dyadic level, grandmothers and adults responded to the same questionnaire on the same variables. SPSS 23.0 performed descriptive statistical analysis and correlation analysis. The structural equation model (SEM) was estimated with AMOS 23.0. We tested the mediation model using the maximum likelihood method. Model fit index used the chi-square statistic, the incremental fit index (IFI), the comparative fit index (CFI), the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA). The statistical significance of the indirect effect was examined using a bootstrapping procedure. The results are as follows. First, in the CFM, the direct effect between solidarity and conflict was significant. Therefore, the higher the solidarity, the lower conflict of grandmothers and an adult child. Second, the association between solidarity and conflict is mediated by communication at the dyadic level. Based on the results of this study, we discussed ways to strengthen the capacity of co-parenting between grandmothers and an adult child.

  • This study investigated the moderating effect of negative emotionality on the association between teacher-child intimacy and peer interaction based on a differential susceptibility model. The participants were 252 three-year-old children recruited from a day care center and preschool located in Incheon and Gyeonggi province. The teacher-child relationship was measured on a Student-Teacher Relationship Scale. This measure is a type of teacher's report with ratings based on a teacher's daily observations. This scale is composed of closeness items on the degree of warmth and open communication in teacher-child relationships. Peer interactions were measured with a Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale. This measure is composed of play interaction items, play disruption items and play disconnection. Negative emotionality was measured with Child Behavior Questionnaire. Teachers measured teacher-child intimacy and peer interaction scales. Parents reported children's negative emotionality. The research showed that negative emotionality moderated the association of teacher-child intimacy, play interaction, play isolation and play disruption. The magnitude of association between teacher-child intimacy and play disconnection as well as play interaction was greater for high levels of negative emotionality. Teacher-child intimacy was significantly associated with play disruption only for high levels of negative emotionality. The findings of this study support a differential susceptibility model.

  • This study attempts to explain how depression among community elderly relate to suicidal ideation and whether or not the psycho-social characteristics of elderly persons moderate the relationship between these two variables. This study was conducted in Seoul, Busan, and Daegu and included 273 persons 65 years and above who were using senior welfare centers in the communities. For the questionnaire and analysis, this research uses the Health Care, Life Event, Self-esteem, Family Assessment scales. This research utilizes a wide range of statistical analyses, such as descriptive analysis, Pearson's correlation, reliability analysis, multiple regression, and general linear modeling. The calculations employed the use of SPSS/PC+ 12.0. This research indicates, among other things, that elderly persons with a high level of depression and psycho-social characteristics show a tendency toward higher suicidal ideation and that the level of self-esteem, life event, and family communication plays a moderating role in the relationship between depression and suicidal ideation among community elderly. In conclusion, elderly persons who experienced with a high level of psycho-social characteristics shows a relatively greater tendency toward suicidal ideation when compared to elderly persons having a low level of psycho-social characteristics. The intervention's effectiveness in reducing suicidal ideation can reinforce self-esteem, and cope with stressful life events and family discord as prevention strategy to reduce risk factors for suicide in late life.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify and compare hospice care research topics between Korean and international nursing studies using text network analysis. Methods: The study was conducted in four steps: 1) collecting abstracts of relevant journal articles, 2) extracting and cleaning keywords (semantic morphemes) from the abstracts, 3) developing co-occurrence matrices and text-networks of keywords, and 4) analyzing network-related measures including degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, and clustering using the NetMiner program. Abstracts from 347 Korean and 1,926 international studies for the period of 1998-2016 were analyzed. Results: Between Korean and international studies, six of the most important core keywords-"hospice," "patient," "death," "RNs," "care," and "family"-were common, whereas "cancer" from Korean studies and "palliative care" from international studies ranked more highly. Keywords such as "attitude," "spirituality," "life," "effect," and "meaning" for Korean studies and "communication," "treatment," "USA," and "doctor" for international studies uniquely emerged as core keywords in recent studies (2011~2016). Five subtopic groups each were identified from Korean and international studies. Two common subtopics were "hospice palliative care and volunteers" and "cancer patients." Conclusion: For a better quality of hospice care in Korea, it is recommended that nursing researchers focus on study topics of patients with non-cancer disease, children and family, communication, and pain and symptom management.

  • The In-Vehicle-Networking(IVN) of modern cars is constituted by an small electronic control device called ECU. In the past, there was no way to be able to access the IVN of a driving car. so IVN has been recognized as a closed environment so there is no need to exist authentication protocol between devices which are to configure the internal network and to communicate with other devices. However, constant improvements made it possible to access the IVN in many different ways as the communication technology evolves. This possibility created a need for device authentication in IVN. HB-Family are representative authentication schemes in RFID environment which has similar restrictions to IVN. In this paper, we propose an implementation method of HB-Family for device authentication between ECU considering ECU has low computing power and the message field of CAN protocol has restricted size of 8 bytes. In order to evaluate the efficiency and availability of the authentication schemes adopted our method, we have evaluated the performance based on DSP-28335 device. Further, it was possible to improve the efficiency rate of at lest 10%, up to 36%, and we then analyze this result in various aspects of the IVN.

  • HL7(Health Level 7) is a standard for exchanging medical and healthcare data among different medical information systems. As the ubiquitous era is coming, in addition to text and imaging information, a new type of data, i.e., streaming sensor data appear. Since the HL7 is not covering the interfaces among the devices that produces sensor data, it is expected that sooner or later the HL7 needs to include the biomedical sensors and sensor networks. The IEEE 1451 is a family of standards that deals with the sensors, transducers including sensors and actuators, and various wired or wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we consider the possibility of interoperability between the IEEE 1451 and HL7. After we propose a format of messages in HL7 to include the IEEE 1451 TEDS, we present some preliminary results that show the possibility of integrating the two standards.
