ARCHITECTURAL ANALYSIS OF CONTEXT-AWARE SYSTEMS IN PERVASIVE COMPUTING ENVIRONMENT

  • Context aware systems are those systems that are aware about the environment and perform productive functions automatically by reducing human computer interactions(HCI). In this paper, we present common architecture principles of context-aware systems to explain the important aspects of context aware systems. Our study focuses on identifying common concepts in pervasive computing approaches, which allows us to devise common architecture principles that may be shared by many systems. The principles consists of context sensing, context modeling, context reasoning, context processing, communication modelling and resource discovery. Such an architecture style can support high degree of reusability among systems and allows for design flexibility, extensibility and adaptability among components that are independent of each other. We also propose a new architecture based on broker-centric middleware and using ontology reasoning mechanism together with an effective behavior based context agent that would be suitable for the design of context-aware architectures in future systems. We have evaluated the proposed architecture based on the design principles and have done an analyses on the different elements in context aware computing based on the presented system.

고성능 H.264 인코더를 위한 CABAC 하드웨어 설계 (The Hardware Design of CABAC for High Performance H.264 Encoder)

  • 본 논문에서는 공통 연산기(Common Operation Unit)를 이용한 CABAC의 이진 산술 부호화기를 제안한다. 제안한 공통 연산기는 모드에 상관없이 하나의 공통 연산기를 이용하여 산술 부호화 및 재정규화를 수행하는 이진 산술 부호화기의 하드웨어 구조를 단순하게 구현할 수 있다. 제안하는 CABAC의 이진 산술 부호화기는 Context RAM, Context Updater, Common Operation Unit, Bit-Gen으로 구성되며 매 클럭당 하나의 심볼이 부호화될 수 있는 4단 파이프라인으로 구성하였다. 제안한 CABAC의 이진 산술 부호화기는 기존 CABAC의 이진 산술 부호화기와 비교하여 게이트 수는 최대 47% 감소하였고, 동작 주파수는 최대 19% 성능이 향상됨을 확인하였다.

공통맥락 형성의 관점에서 살펴본 마찰력에 대한 소집단 토론의 특징 (Characteristics of Small Group Discussions About Friction in Terms of the Formation of Common Context)

  • 본 연구에서 연구자는 학생들이 마찰력을 주제로 소집단 토론을 진행할 때 어떤 특성을 보이는지 살펴보았고, 공통맥락이라는 키워드가 연구에서 나타난 현상을 잘 설명한다고 생각하여 이 용어를 재정의하고 공통맥락 형성의 관점에서 학생들의 토론 양상을 살펴보았다. 특히 학생들이 논의하는 과정에서 공통맥락의 형성 과정이 구성원들의 논의를 거쳐 명시적으로 나타나는지, 공통맥락이 이미 형성되어 있다고 암묵적으로 가정하거나 간단한 확인만 거치는지에 대해 살펴보았다. 연구 결과 공통맥락의 형성 과정이 명시적으로 드러난 사례로는 문제 상황의 확인(특히 2번 문제에서 A의 운동), 마찰력의 본성 및 특성, 여러 가지 힘들의 성질, 관성계 및 비관성계와 관련한 논의 등이 있었다. 한편, 구성원들이 공통맥락이 이미 암묵적으로 형성 되어 있다고 가정하고 논의를 이어 나간 것 중 본 연구에서 특징적인 것으로는 마찰력 규칙에 대한 지식이 있었고, 마찰력 규칙을 오용하는 사례도 찾아볼 수 있었다. 한편, 연구자는 질문자, 수용자, 다른 의견을 가진 학생의 존재가 긍정적인 조별 토론에 중요하다는 사실을 발견했고, 특히 질문자는 본 연구 사례에서 매우 중요한 역할을 하였음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구의 결과는 담화의 형태를 중심으로 분석하는 선행연구들과는 달리 구체적인 수업의 주제가 소집단 조별 토론에 어떤 영향을 주는지 분석했다는 점에서 그 의의를 가진다고 본다.

국민공통기본교육과정 과학과 생명영역 물질대사 관련 탐구활동 분석 (Analysis of Inquiry Activities Related to Metabolism Presented in Life Science Textbooks Developed According to the National Common Basic Curriculum)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the connection among inquiry activities related to 'Metabolism' presented in life science textbooks developed according to the national common basic curriculum. To perform this, the type, process and context of inquiry activities of life science textbooks were analyzed. The number of inquiry activities is gradually increased from elementary to secondary school. As result of analysis, types, processes and skills, and context of inquiry were not balanced according to textbooks and school levels. It is suggested that the framework of evaluating inquiry activities based on curriculum objectives be provided when developing science textbooks. It also implies that teachers need to reconstruct inquiry contents and activities suitable to school situations when they teach in the real fields of education.

고등학교 학생들의 문제해결에서 맥락에 따라 활성화되는 지식의 우선순위차이 (Differences in priorities of high school students' knowledge activated in laboratory and earth environmental contexts)

  • Four science concepts were selected from high school science textbook to investigate the differences in priorities of students knowledge activated during solving earth science problems in laboratory and earth science environmental contexts. Two items, one for laboratory context and the other for earth environmental context, were developed for earth selected concept The subjects were constituted of 192 students in 11th grade and 196 in 12th grade in one senior high school. Students' responses were categorized using graph models and analyzed in terms of 'Common Activated Knowledge'(CAK). and 'Specific Activated Knowledge'(SAK) across students' cognitive frames, grades, and sex. As contextual differences of the problems increased, context effects in priorities of CAK were reported in favor of laboratory context, on the contrary those of SAK in favor of earth environmental context. Context effects were reported across cognitive frames, especially students with laboratory cognitive frames showed more significant context effects than others. Lower graders and girls showed relatively large context effects. The results of this study showed that science concepts learned in a laboratory context are not easily transferred to earth environmental context. Therefore, special instructional strategies should be developed to overcome the context effect s according to activated knowledges with high priorities in laboratory and earth environmental context.

Context-Aware Active Services in Ubiquitous Computing Environments

  • With the advent of ubiquitous computing environments, it has become increasingly important for applications to take full advantage of contextual information, such as the user's location, to offer greater services to the user without any explicit requests. In this paper, we propose context-aware active services based on context-aware middleware for URC systems (CAMUS). The CAMUS is a middleware that provides context-aware applications with a development and execution methodology. Accordingly, the applications based on CAMUS respond in a timely fashion to contextual information. This paper presents the system architecture of CAMUS and illustrates the content recommendation and control service agents with the properties, operations, and tasks for context-aware active services. To evaluate CAMUS, we apply the proposed active services to a TV application domain. We implement and experiment with a TV content recommendation service agent, a control service agent, and TV tasks based on CAMUS. The implemented content recommendation service agent divides the user's preferences into common and specific models to apply other recommendations and applications easily, including the TV content recommendations.

과학교육에서의 상황 관련 연구에 대한 개관과 분석 (Review and Analysis of the Studies on Contexts in Science Education)

  • The purpose of this study was to review the studies related to the problem of context in science education. Firstly, studies on context and context effects in science education (and also those related in cognitive psychology) were summarized according to the topics concerning science learning, such as deductive reasoning and probabilistic judgement, controlling variables, scientific inquiry skills, memory and consistency of misconceptions, selecting cognitive strategies and problem solving, achievement and momentum effect, and interest, religion and culture. Secondly, the common problems appeared from the analysis of the studies were discussed, such as (1) how to define contexts?, (2) how to classify contexts?, (3) how to characterize the effects of contexts? and (4) how to explain the context effects? Finally, the implications of the analysis of the studies on the problem of context were discussed in terms of recent development of science education, such as misconception studies, STS science education and the application of the history of science to science teaching.

The Framework to Support a Common Way for Context-aware Applications

  • In this paper, we introduce the general way for producing context information to support context-aware applications. It can fetch raw data from the service environments, translate it to reasonable context information, and provide to multiple applications. It is designed originally for the ubiquitous computing middleware and based on the ontology processing model. Automated service applications can use this system as the form of libraries or of web services for deciding its semantic cause of action.

  • New paradigm of the 21st is 'Ubiquitous'. And great changes arises from the digital environment and technology. Also, our living environments are changing very rapidly. Because of rapid developments, we didn't have enough time to examine our current situation. So we had to look around the current living spaces. The main purpose of this research was to know about the home network service and environmental context in our living spaces and to explore the outlook in the forseeable future. To search them, four recent digital home exhibition houses were examined. The findings showed that many kinds of common network systems were suggested and were acted in limited spaces. And when we examined the environmental context, we found most of the instruments were installed fixed ones or integrated information appliances. Therefore, the plan of digital home needs to consider environmental context and the combination of residents and living spaces.

가상기업 지원을 위한 컨텍스트 기반 멀티에이전트 시스템 (A Context-based Multi-Agent System for Enacting Virtual Enterprises)

  • 가상기업은 다양한 역할의 에이전트들이 상호 작용함으로써 공동의 목표를 달성하는 멀티 에이전트 시스템(Multi-Agent System)으로 구현될 수 있다. 다만, 가상기업을 지원하기 위한 MAS는 멤버들의 이질성(heterogeneity), 복합구조(complex structure) 등의 특성을 고려한 가운데 자율성(autonomy)과 역동성(dynamism)을 보장할 수 있어야 한다는 점에서 보다 고도화 된 기능(예 : 컨텍스트)을 필요로 한다. 본 논문은 가상기업의 구성과 운영을 지원하기 위한 플랫폼으로 컨텍스트(context) 기반 MAS를 제안하기 위한 것이다. 컨텍스트 기반 MAS는 가상기업의 구성요소를 액터(Actor)와 액터 간의 인터랙션(Interaction), 그리고 액터 컨텍스트 (Actor Context)와 인터랙션 컨텍스트(Interaction Context) 등으로 정의한다. 컨텍스트 기반 MAS는 액터들에 대한 단순한 상태 정보뿐만 아니라 목표, 역할, 작업, 작업자의 시간, 장소, 사용 기기 등 상황정보 즉, 컨텍스트를 활용함으로써 의사결정이나 실행의 신속성, 정확성과 자동화 수준을 높일 수 있다. 컨텍스트 기반 MAS는 다양한 컨텍스트를 제어하기 위한 컨텍스트 온톨로지, 컨텍스트 모델, 컨텍스트 분석기와 추론기 등으로 구현될 수 있다. 하나의 가상기업이 공동 기술개발 파트너를 찾는 예제를 통해 본 연구의 타당성을 검토하였다.
