  • Knowledge about career patterns of women In any profession and about factors which influence these career patterns becomes increasingly necessary because of the influx of ever-increasing numbers of women into the labor force, and the need for the development and utilization of the creative productivity of women. This study alms to investigate Korean female librarians' overall career patterns and verify relevant factors which might affect to their career patterns. As an instrument, self-reported questionnaires were sent to 1,251 full-time Korean female librarians throughout the country with regular librarian's certificate, currently engaging in public, college or university, and special libraries. Based on the data gathered, the interrelationship between their career pattern inclination and its influential factors were examined through hypothesis testing. Major findings of the survey are outlined in the following: 1). Female librarians' career patterns were classified into five categories with the group represented as Categories-2 (single; wishes to continue working after marriage; places an emphasis on the sense of occupational accomplishment and social prestige) accounted for the highest proportion$(33.4\%)$. 2). The result of the hypothesis testing revealed that there is no significant relationship statistically between social factors(parents' socio-economic status, etc.) and female librarians' career patterns. So the hypothesis concerning social factors were rejected. 3). In psychological factors(job satisfaction ; self-concept sex role attitude ; role conflict ; and achievement motivation), all except for self-concept were shown to be relevant with female librarians' stable career pattern. So the hypotheses concerning psychological factors were supported. 4). According to the result of multiple discriminant analysis conducted between the above four statistically significant psychological factors and career patterns, the most influential factor for female librarians' career patterns was job satisfaction and sex role. In conclusion, the following recommendations were made: For overall enhancement of Korean female librarianship, earlier career guidance and concrete sex role education for young women is urgent which enable them to establish correct viewpoint for their occupational career female librarians themselves' constant endeavor In maintaining positive attitude toward their job is required.

  • As the information age matures, the learning style of youth is changing rapidly. Students study at a variety of places such as cafe or lobbies utilizing various digital learning devices. Along with the place changes, learning methods are also changing. Student-centered learning methods such as smart learning, collaborative learning, and activity-based learning are increasingly being utilized instead of the traditional instructor-centered learning in which knowledge is unilaterally delivered. Accordingly, many universities are remodeling central libraries, and they are also transforming lobby spaces of the college buildings into simple but useful learning spaces. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of learning spaces in universities from the standpoint of the students. According to the analysis, overall satisfaction is high in terms of comfortable physical learning environments such as Wi-Fi, furniture, lighting, etc. But the spaces are still optimized for individual and intensive learning. There seems to be a lack of effort to support collaborative learning or activity-based learning. This observation is confirmed by the characteristics of the central library, and it is considered that the reason why the college buildings are preferred by students is that college buildings are more suitable for collaborative or activity-based learning than libraries.

  • Background: Postoperative pain management is crucial for patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA). There have been many recent clinical trials on post-TKA peripheral nerve block; however, they have reported inconsistent findings. In this meta-analysis, we aimed to comprehensively analyze studies on post-TKA analgesia to provide evidence-based clinical suggestions. Methods: We performed a computer-based query of PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science to retrieve related articles using neurothe following search terms: nerve block, nerve blockade, chemodenervation, chemical neurolysis, peridural block, epidural anesthesia, extradural anesthesia, total knee arthroplasty, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, and others. After quality evaluation and data extraction, we analyzed the complications, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, patient satisfaction, perioperative opioid dosage, and rehabilitation indices. Evidence was rated using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach. Results: We included 16 randomized controlled trials involving 981 patients (511 receiving peripheral nerve block and 470 receiving epidural block) in the final analysis. Compared with an epidural block, a peripheral nerve block significantly reduced complications. There were no significant between-group differences in the postoperative VAS score, patient satisfaction, perioperative opioid dosage, and rehabilitation indices. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate that the peripheral nerve block is superior to the epidural block in reducing complications without compromising the analgesic effect and patient satisfaction. Therefore, a peripheral nerve block is a safe and effective postoperative analgesic method with encouraging clinical prospects.

  • The purpose of this paper was to empirically examine college students' on-line bookstore utilization status. The focus of this study was placed on three major issues. First. what are the college students' motivations in using on -line' bookstore. Second. what are the major determinants of college students' on -line bookstore utilization. Third. how book genres are related to students' on -line bookstore utilization behavior. Data were collected from 215 college students during October 10, 2005 to October 17, 2005. The analyses showed following results: First, the college students' on -line bookstore utilization motivations were grouped into three areas-convenience motivation, interaction motivation, and information collecting motivation. Second. college students who were oriented toward convenience motivation, who were more interested in on-line bookstores, and who were more satisfied with on-line services, made more frequent visits to on-line bookstore sites. Third, college students who allocated less time to book readings showed a tendency of buying books through on-line bookstores. Finally, college students who were more interested in on -line bookstores showed more satisfaction and bought such various books as literature, hobby or practical books, foreign novels, and general readings. This finding suggests that in order to activate on-line bookstore business. book industries, especially the publishers and/or distributors, have to develop new ideas which can make an appeal to college students who are believed to be critical book readers.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the acceptance of the electronic journals among undergraduate students. Using a survey questionnaire, this study collected the data collected from 813 students taking 11 courses offered in five different universities. The levels of electronic jounal and its service awareness appeared to be low as 63.7% and 59.9% respectively. Only 43.8% of the respondents report their experience of using Korean e-journals. There is a statistically significant difference in use among college groups and students' major of study. E-journals are mostly used off-campus and within the library, using simple search techniques. In spite of difficulties in search and gathering information, the satisfaction level marked above average. Reasons of nonuse are lack of opportunity and knowledge. However, 93.8% of nonusers report a willingness to use the e-journals in the future. LIS students show higher e-journal awareness and use experience compared to non-LIS students. Yet, the levels of using simple search techniques and satisfaction show little difference from those of the non-LIS students. The findings of the study suggest implications to promote the acceptance of e-journals among college students.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of records for reading activities in high schools and to make a suggestion for improvement of reading activities records. Data for 120 high school students were collected and analyzed for this study. This study showed negative response results in terms of the satisfaction of the 'reading activity situation' record, the necessity of the reading activity record, and the method of recording the reading activity. It is, however, necessary to improve the current recording method to invigorate high school students' reading activities. Since it is not easy to identify students' development in reading by the titles which they provides for the reading activity records, a variety of reading activities need to be recorded for understanding students' development process and interaction activities with teachers. It is expected that the findings in this study will be significant data to improve evaluation methods of reading activities for college admission and to cultivate proper reading culture in high schools.

  • In this paper, we introduce the methodology for the automatic generation of the subject field hierarchy for Intellgent Expert Management Framework using WordNet. Intelligent Expert Management Framework, which is proposed as an appropriate method to manage valuable tacit knowledge within the organization, defines the expert profile structure and proposes the efficient method to automate the process to collect and update the expert profile information based on the profile structure defined. To increase the satisfaction level of users, additional intelligent search features are defined and users can be given the list of experts in related or similar expert fields when they perform expert searches based on the expert database being built. To enable automatic profiling of the organizational experts as well as intelligent expert searches, the subject field hierarchy, upon which the expert profiles are classified and expert searches for similar fields are performed, should be predefined. In this paper, we propose the WordNet library method that first eliminates the ambiguity of the senses of nominal data values, constructs the subject field hierarchy by overlapping the hypernym of the remaining senses, and lastly adjusts the derived hierarchy to the preference of users. Based on the proposed methodology, we expect to avoid the prohibitive costs in building large subject field hierarchies when manually done as well as maintain the objectivity of the hierarchies.

  • This study analyzed the effects of auricular acupressure on improving sleep disorders of the elderly. The data was collected from domestic and foreign databases. The keywords were 'auricular,' 'sleep,' 'insomnia, and so on. RoB and RoBANS were used to evaluate the risk of bias in the selected literature. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3. Seven of 386 studies were selected. Regarding the sleep score, those studies with an intervention period of less than four weeks showed WMD of 25.66 (95% CI; 20.18 to 31.14), which was significantly higher than that of the control group. Similarly, the studies with an intervention period longer than four weeks had significantly higher WMD than that of the control group, and the former exhibited WMD of 8.59 (95% CI: 6.26 to 10.92). In contrast, sleep satisfaction was significantly higher in the studies with a maintenance period of three days or less, which resulted in SMD of 13.37 (95% CI: 5.29 to 21.45). The score in the studies with a maintenance period longer than four days was significantly higher than that of the control group with SMD of 2.27 (95% CI: 1.82 to 2.72). Auricular acupressure was effective in alleviating sleep disorders among the elderly in terms of both sleep quality and sleep satisfaction.
