  • The purpose of this study is to figure out the effect of pressurized grouting on the pullout resistance and the group effect of the compression ground anchor by performing pilot-scale chamber tests and field tests. The laboratory tests are carried out for 3-types of soils which are abundant in the Korean peninsular. Experimental results showed that the enlargement of anchor diameters estimated from the cavity expansion theory matches reasonable well with that obtained from experiments. Moreover, the required injection time as a function of the coefficient of permeability of each soil type was proposed. A series of in-situ anchor pullout tests were also performed to experimentally figure out the effect of pressurized grouting on the pullout resistance. Experimental results also showed that the effect of the pressurized grouting is more prominent in a softer ground with smaller SPT-N value in all of the following three aspects: increase in anchor diameter; pullout resistance; and surface roughness. The pressurized grouting effect in comparison with gravitational grouting was found to be almost nil if the SPT-N value is more than 50. Based on experimental results, a new equation to estimate the pullout resistance as a function of the SPT-N value was proposed. And based on in-situ group anchor pullout tests results, a new group effect equation was proposed which might be applicable to decomposed residual soils which are abundant in the Korean peninsular.

  • Parts of damaged trees are being transplanted in accordance with the Environmental Impact Assessment Manual. Problems such as death or poor growth are constantly being addressed in the process of transplanting trees from the forest they originally inhabited to temporary and final transplant sites. The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in soil properties in the surrounding forest, the temporary transplant site, and the construction site and to suggest methods for improving the soil to make it suitable for the growth of transplanted trees. For 10 development projects, 2 soil samples were sampled from the surrounding forest, temporary transplant site, and construction site. A total of 60 soil samples were analyzed for physical and chemical properties. Among the physical properties such as coefficient of permeability, available moisture, and hardness, and chemical properties such as acidity, organic matter content, total nitrogen, and available P showed significant differences among groups. The soil of the construction site is harder than the surrounding forest because of construction equipments, the coefficient of permeability is higherthan the surrounding forest because of high sand content, and the available moisture was low. It does not retain the moisture necessary for plants in the soil and drains immediately. It is necessary to implement tillage to improve the physical properties and structure of the soil. In addition, it is necessary to cover the surface with wood chips or fallen leaves after adding mature organic matter to improve the physical and chemical properties of the soil together.

  • Objective: We aimed to investigate whether image standardization using deep learning-based computed tomography (CT) image conversion would improve the performance of deep learning-based automated hepatic segmentation across various reconstruction methods. Materials and Methods: We collected contrast-enhanced dual-energy CT of the abdomen that was obtained using various reconstruction methods, including filtered back projection, iterative reconstruction, optimum contrast, and monoenergetic images with 40, 60, and 80 keV. A deep learning based image conversion algorithm was developed to standardize the CT images using 142 CT examinations (128 for training and 14 for tuning). A separate set of 43 CT examinations from 42 patients (mean age, 10.1 years) was used as the test data. A commercial software program (MEDIP PRO v2.0.0.0, MEDICALIP Co. Ltd.) based on 2D U-NET was used to create liver segmentation masks with liver volume. The original 80 keV images were used as the ground truth. We used the paired t-test to compare the segmentation performance in the Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) and difference ratio of the liver volume relative to the ground truth volume before and after image standardization. The concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) was used to assess the agreement between the segmented liver volume and ground-truth volume. Results: The original CT images showed variable and poor segmentation performances. The standardized images achieved significantly higher DSCs for liver segmentation than the original images (DSC [original, 5.40%-91.27%] vs. [standardized, 93.16%-96.74%], all P < 0.001). The difference ratio of liver volume also decreased significantly after image conversion (original, 9.84%-91.37% vs. standardized, 1.99%-4.41%). In all protocols, CCCs improved after image conversion (original, -0.006-0.964 vs. standardized, 0.990-0.998). Conclusion: Deep learning-based CT image standardization can improve the performance of automated hepatic segmentation using CT images reconstructed using various methods. Deep learning-based CT image conversion may have the potential to improve the generalizability of the segmentation network.

  • Predictive growth model of putrefactive bacteria of surimi-based imitation crab in the modified surimi-based imitation crab (MIC) broth was investigated. The growth curves of putrefactive bacteria were obtained by measuring cell number in MIC broth under different conditions (Initial cell number, $1.0{\times}10^2,\;1.0{\times}10^3$ and $1.0{\times}10^4$ colony forming unit (CFU)/mL; temperature, $15^{\circ}C,\;20^{\circ}C\;and\;25^{\circ}C$) and applied them to Gompertz model. The microbial growth indicators, maximum specific growth rate constant (k), lag time (LT) and generation time (GT), were calculated from Gompertz model. Maximum specific growth rate (k) of putrefactive bacteria was become fast with rising temperature and fastest at $25^{\circ}C$. LT and GT were become short with rising temperature and shortest at $25^{\circ}C$. There were not significant differences in k, LT and GT by initial cell number (p>0.05). Polynomial model, $k=-0.2160+0.0241T-0.0199A_0$, and square root model, $\sqrt{k}=0.02669$ (T-3.5689), were developed to express the combination effects of temperature and initial cell number, The relative coefficient of experimental k and predicted k of polynomial model was 0.87 from response surface model. The relative coefficient of experimental k and predicted k of square root model was 0.88. From above results, we found that the growth of putrefactive bacteria was mainly affected by temperature and the square root model was more credible than the polynomial model for the prediction of the growth of putrefactive bacteria.

  • In this study, the fluorinated carbon blacks(CB) were used to reduce the negative temperature coefficient (NTC) phenomenon of the CB-filled high density polyethylene(HDPE) compounds in the fluorination pressure of 0.1-0.4 MPa. The changes in surface properties of the CB were investigated by using FT-IR, XPS and contact angle measurements. From the FT-IR results, the fluorinated CB showed the C-F absorption peak at 1400-1000 cm$^{-1}$ and the peak intensity was increased with increasing the fluorination pressure. Also, the analysis of XPS spectra of the fluorinated CB indicated that fluorine content was increased with increasing the fluorination pressure. Meanwhile, the surface free energy of the fluorinated CB was decreased with increasing the fluorination pressure. Consequently, the increase of fluorine contents on CB made a disappearance of NTC behaviors of CB/HDPE compounds, which was probably due to the reduction of CB reaggregation after melting point of the HDPE, resulting from decreasing the surface free energy of CB particles.

  • Diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a typical application field of cordierite (Mg2Al4Si5O18) honeycomb. Green body for DPF honeycomb was extruded using slurry paste and sintered at the temperature range of 980~1450℃. Quantitative crystal phase analysis was carried out by using Rietveld refinement method for powder XRD data. In conjunction with the quantitative Rietveld analysis, SEM-EDS analysis was carried for the crystal phases (indialite, cordierite, cristobalite, alumina, spinel, mullite, pro-enstatite). After removing amorphous phase on the sintered surfaces by chemical etching method, the shape and composition of the crystal phases can be clearly identified by SEM-EDS method. By combining the Rietveld refinement method and SEM-EDS analysis, crystal phase evolution process in DPF cordierite ceramics could be clarified. In addition, the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of the DPF honeycombs were measured and compared with the calculated CTEs based on the quantitative crystal phase analysis results.

  • Field measurements of resistance to flow are analyzed for 739 rivers vegetated with grass (281 channels), shrubs (150 channels) and trees (308 channels). The measured distribution of Manning roughness coefficients ranges from 0.015~0.250 for grass, 0.016~0.250 for shrubs, 0.018~0.310 for trees. Significant trends are obtained between Darcy-Weisbach (or Manning roughness coefficients) and flow discharge, friction slope, and relative submergence. The regression equations for Darcy-Weisbach and Manning roughness coefficients in vegetated rivers are: $f_{veg}=0.436Q^{-0.363}$, $f_{veg}=3.305S_f^{0.508}$, and $n_{veg}=0.061Q^{-0.124}$, $n_{veg}=0.144S_f^{0.199}$, $V=5.3(h/d_{50})^{1/8.3}{\sqrt{ghS_f}}$, $\sqrt{8/f}(=V/u*)=5.75log(5h/d_{50})$, respectively. These semi-empirical relationships should be useful for hydraulic engineering practice.

  • This study aimed at comparing the performance of imported LX detergent cleaning solution (LX-CS) and the self-manufactured OC cleaning solution (OC-CS), based on functional and quantitative analysis. The functional analysis was carried out using apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values. For quantitative analysis, precision, linearity, and carry-over rates were measured with commercial control materials according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines. Using OC-Sensor PLEDIA (Eiken Chemical, Japan), the ADC value of all cuvettes satisfied the acceptance criteria. For quantitative analysis, precision was less than 5.0% for the two products, and carry-over rates were less than ±1.00%. The linearity slopes and r2 values were 1.0017 and 0.9982 in the LX-CS, and 0.9924 and 0.9996 in the OC-CS, respectively. The correlation coefficient (r) was found to be 0.9997. Also, the percent difference in correlation with 40 artificial-stool specimens was less than 10% and the p-value was less than 0.1. The result of standard deviation ratio (D: ±1 SD ratio) was similar for both products. In conclusion, the functional and quantitative analyses of the two products were compared and showed similar results. In the future, the self-manufactured OC-CS will be able to provide a much more stable and faster supply than the imported LX-CS.
