Co-firing Characteristics and Slagging Behavior of Sewage Sludge with Coal and Wood Pellet in a Bubbling Fluidized Bed (기포 유동층 반응기를 이용한 하수 슬러지와 석탄 및 우드 펠렛의 혼소 특성 및 슬래깅 성향 연구)

  • The results of an experimental investigation on the co-firing characteristics and slagging behavior of dried and hydrothermal carbonization sewage sludge, sub-bituminous coal, and wood pellet in a fluidized bed were presented. Combustion tests were conducted in a lab-scale bubbling fluidized bed system at the uniform fuel-air equivalence ratio, air flow rate, and initial bed temperature to measure bed temperature distribution and combustion gas composition. 4 different fuel blending cases were prepared by mixing sewage sludge fuels with coal and wood pellet with the ratio of 50 : 50 by the heating value. $NO_x$ was mostly NO than $NO_2$ and measured in the range of 400 to 600 ppm in all cases. $SO_2$ was considered to be affected mostly by the sulfur content of the sewage sludge fuels. The cases of hydrothermal carbonization sewage sludge mixture showed slightly less $SO_2$ emission but higher fuel-N conversion than the dried sewage sludge mixing cases. The result of fly ash composition analysis implied that the sewage sludge fuels would increase the possibility of slagging/fouling considering the contents of alkali species, such as Na, K, P. Between the two different sewage sludge fuels, dried sewage sludge fuel was expected to have the more severe impact on slagging/fouling behavior than hydrothermal carbonization sewage sludge fuel.

The Effect of a Au Based Bonding Agent Coating on Non-Precious Metals-Ceramic Bond Strength (비귀금속 합금에 적용한 Au Based Bonding Agent가 금속-도재 결합에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study investigated the effect of Au coating on adhesion between porcelain matrix and metal substructure interface. Titanium, Ni-Cr alloy and Co-Cr alloy are well known as proper metal for the dental restorations. The success of a porcelain fused to metal (PFM) restoration depends upon the quality of the porcelain-metal bond. However, adhesion between dental alloys and porcelain is related to diffusion of oxygen during ceramic firing. The excessive oxidized layers make hard adhesion between dental alloy and ceramic. Ni-Cr and Co-Cr specimens were divided into test and a control group and Titanium specimens were divided into three test groups and a control group. Each group had 20 specimens. The adhesion characteristics of porcelain and metal with Au coating layer and without Au coating layer were observed with scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The adhesion was evaluated by a biaxial flexure test and volume fraction of adherent porcelain was determined by SEM/EDS analysis. Result of this study suggest that Au coating layer is effective barrier to diffuse oxide layer completely protect non-precious alloys from oxidation during the porcelain firing. The SEM photomicrographs of cross-section specimens showed a smooth interface between Au coating layer and metals and porcelain which suggested proper chemical bonding, and no gap, porosity were observed. The mode of failure was mainly adhesive for Ti tested specimens, but mixed failures with adhesive and cohesive were observed in Ni-Cr and Co-Cr specimens. The adhesion between non-precious metals and porcelain would not be improved by Au coating agent. However, It is suggested that the continuous study is required further investigation and development.

Modified Ramp-Reset Waveform Robust for Variable Panel Temperature and its Discharge Characteristics

  • By the voltage threshold (Vt) close-curve measurement method, the changes in the discharge characteristics such as a firing voltage and IR emission among the three electrodes were examined relative to the low or high panel temperature ranging from -10 to $80^{\circ}$. The variation in the panel temperature was found significantly influence the surface discharge between the MgO surfaces rather than the plate gap discharge between the MgO and phosphor layers. Based on this experimental observation, a modified reset waveform that alleviates the surface discharge during a ramp-up and -down period was deeloped. By adopting the proposed reset waveform, a stable address discharge could be obtained irrespective of the panel temperature variation.

  • The load characteristics of engine main bearing are very important in the design of crankshaft and engine block. The stiffness of crankshaft and block, or the optimal dimension of the bearing can be determined according to the load level. This paper presents the load characteristics of engine main bearing. Two components of the main bearing load are measured during engine firing and motoring. The vertical and horizontal load components are measured by using the dynamic load cell mounted in each main bearing cap bolt. The measured main bearing loads are compared with calculated results by using the statically determinate method. The theoretical results, provided in this study, agreed well with the experimental results. The presented results are very useful for achieving optimal design of engine.

  • 결정질 실리콘 태양전지에서 전극 형성 공정은 Voc(Open-circuit voltage), Isc(Short-circuit current), Rser(Series resistance), Rshunt(Shunt resistance), FF(Fill factor) 특성에 영향을 주기 때문에 매우 중요하다. 하지만 paste와 선 공정에서의 조건에 따라 특성이 바뀌기 때문에 소성 공정을 최적화하기는 쉽지 않다. 본 연구에서는 Gravure Off-set printing 방식을 이용하여 결정질 실리콘 기판 표면에 미세 전극 형성 공정을 하고 소성 조건 최적화를 위해 peak 온도와 ramp-up 속도를 변화시켜 각 조건별 특성을 비교하였다. Peak 온도가 커질수록, contact resistance의 감소에 따라 Rser가 줄어들었다. 본 연구를 통해 Voc는 619mV, FF는 77.9%로 측정되는 Gravure Off-set 태양전지에 최적화된 소성 공정 조건을 확보하였다.

  • The vacuum sealing method is adopted to minimize the residual impurity gas by enhancing a base vacuum level, and the resultant changes in the reset, address, and sustain discharge characteristics, such as a firing voltage, IR emission, and ICCD image, were examined in comparison with the conventional sealing method in the 42-in. AC-PDP. In the PDP cells fabricated by the vacuum sealing method, the ICCD observation illustrates that the discharge is initiated and extinguished very fast and its IR emission intensity is high.

  • Scandium-doped zirconium, ScSZ-based electrolyte, provides higher oxygen conductivity than YSZ and nano-based electrolyte materials are ideal for fabricating thin film electrolyte membrane of SOFC unit cell. Moreover, it may be applied to anode and cathode as well as electrolyte as ionic conductor. In this report, nano-based ScSZ-based electrolyte powder was prepared by co-precipitation synthesis. The particle size, surface area and morphology of the powder were observed by SEM and BET. Thin film electrolyte of under $10{\mu}m$ was fabricated by tape casting and co-firing using the synthesized ScSZ-based powders, and ionic conductivity and gas permeability of electrolyte film were evaluated. Finally, the SOFC unit cell was fabricated using the anode-supported electrolyte prepared by a tape casting method and co-sintering. Electrochemical evaluations of the SOFC unit cell, including measurements such as power density and impedance, were performed and analyzed.

CO2 Laser micro-structuring of optical fiber with negative conical shape (CO2 레이저를 이용한 음각 원뿔 구조 광섬유 팁 가공 최적화 연구)

  • A helical fabricating method using $CO_2$ laser was utilized for producing cone-shaped structure on a silica substrate. Output power and the number of scanning radiation were modified in order to control the structure. The experiment shows that the depth and width of cone-shape were increased with higher output power of the laser and the number of scanning. We demonstrate fabrication of multidirectional side-firing optical fiber with diameter of 440 um using the $CO_2$ laser fabrication technique.

  • In the three phase full-wave thyristor rectifier, heat radiation concentrated at a few thyristor(s), while equipment's output is normal. That is very important on the predictive maintenance or checking including replacement of parts(or modules). Therefore, this report explains the method of effective diagnosis and the reason that firing control modules have to be adjusted accuratly on each phase.

Characteristics of Nano-Sized, α-2ZrO2·P2O5 Powder Prepared by Polyvinyl Alcohol Solution Method (Polyvinyl Alcohol 용액법에 의해 제조된 나노크기 α-2ZrO2·P2O5 분말의 특성 연구)

  • $2ZrO_2{\cdot}P_2O_5$ powder, which is not synthesized by solid reaction method, was successfully synthesized through PVA solution method. In this process, the firing temperature and the PVA content strongly affected the crystallization behavior and final particle size. A stable ${\alpha}$-phase $2ZrO_2{\cdot}P_2O_5$ was synthesized at a firing temperature of $1200^{\circ}C$ and holding time of 4 h. ${\beta}$-phase $2ZrO_2{\cdot}P_2O_5$ was observed, with un-reacted $ZrO_2$ phases, for firing temperatures lower than $1200^{\circ}C$. In terms of the PVA content effect, the powder prepared with a PVA mixing ratio of 12:1 showed stable ${\alpha}$-phase $2ZrO_2{\cdot}P_2O_5$; however, the ${\beta}$-phase was found to co-exist at relatively higher PVA content. The synthesized ${\alpha}$-phase $2ZrO_2{\cdot}P_2O_5$ powder showed an average particle size of 100~250 nm and an average thermal expansion coefficient of $-2.5{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ in the range of room temp. ${\sim}800^{\circ}C$.
