  • In mountainous area, Two parallel tunnels have been usually recognized as a road tunnel which has benefits in aspects of cost and stability. However, Design and construction of 2-Arch road tunnel are growing recently due to environmental destruction, compensation of land and difficulty of route separation. As studies are mainly undergoing on only guaranteeing stability and developing a waterproofing-drainage system to avoid water leakage through comprehension for characteristics of 2-arch tunnel behaviors, there is a tendency to evaluate quantity of support by empirical method with a tunnel which has a complicated cross-section and lack of construction ability. In this study, therefore, we made a plan of tunnel cross-section which had shown good construction ability and developed the waterproofing-drainage system which is able to solve the water leakage problem fundamentally by analyzing precedented 2-arch tunnels and investigating their sites in and out of nation. We also determined fixed quantity of support by a large-scale model test and numerical analysis. We want to contribute to 2-arch tunnel design hereafter introducing design procedure and method applied here.

  • Recent studies of science and technology "in-the-making" revealed that the process of designing material artifacts is not a straightforward application of prior images or theories by one (or more) person(s) isolated from his or her (their) environment. Rather, designing is a process contingent on the social and material setting for both engineering designers and students. Over the past decade, designing technological artifacts has emerged as an important learning environment in science classrooms. Through the analyses of a large database concerning an innovative simple machines curriculum for sixth-and seventh-grade students, we accumulated valid evidence for the nature of the designing process and science learning through it. In this paper, we show that design actions intertwine with the transformation of the objectified raw materials and artifact, the designer collective, and the mediating tools enabling that transformation, which constitute the elements of an activity from the perspective of cultural-historical activity theory. We conceptualize the continuous change of relation between material artifacts, designers, and tools throughout the design activity as co-evolution. Two episodes were selected to exemplify synchronic and diachronic change of relations inherent in co-evolving activity system. Finally, we discuss the implications of co-evolution during design activity for science learning.

  • The trend of current urban redevelopment and new city development project shows that the superstructure of building is getting larger and higher in consequence of a limited plottage condition. For this reason, it is definitely required to extend pile diameter and install more deep foundation(Mega foundation) to support superstructure. The existing precast pile construction method causes construction-related problems such as increasing quantities, difficulty of storage & transportation material and decreasing design load while construct pile in deep foundation. The drilled shaft method has applied to minimize those problems. This article will be presented construction case study of design & construction of R.C.D method for a large building foundation work on the inside and outside of the country.

  • CO2 electroreduction is considered as a means to overcome climate change by converting CO2 into value-added chemicals and liquid fuels. Although numerous researchers have screened versatile metal for the use of electrodes, and looked into the reaction mechanism, it is still required to develop highly enhanced electrocatalyst for CO2 reduction to reach beyond lab-scale. Plasma treatment applying onto the surface of meal electrodes could improve activity, selectivity and stability of the electrocatalysts. This review highlights the effect of plasma pretreatment, and provides insight to design suitable CO2 electrocatalyst.

  • Twin screw extruders are the heart of the polymer processing industry. They are used at some stage in nearly all polymer processing operations. This paper is concerned with the basic elements of the extruder design. The proper design of the geometry of the extruder screw is of crucial importance to the proper functioning of the extruder. If the material transport instabilities occur as a result of improper screw geometry, even the most sophisticated computerized control system cannot solve the problem. For this purpose, a characteristic design on the screw flights shape of the closely intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder. This paper presents design parameters of double flighted screw and triple flighted screw elements, and characteristics of various screw channel area versus screw diameter ratio, K value, in the barrel of screw extruder.

  • We performed semiempirical (AMl and ZINDO) and ab initio (HF and DFT) calculations, to investigate molecular structures and optical properties of DCM and its derivatives. DCM and its derivatives are used as a red fluorescent dopant of the organic electroluminescent host materials, $Alq_3$. We have studied the relationship between the molecular structure and the optical properties of these molecules for the improvement of EL efficiencies. Wavelength at the absorption maximum was found to be red-shifted when the molecule is substituted with both strong electron donating and withdrawing functional groups. A new red fluorescent dye was predicted by QSPR study based on calculations and experimental data.
