Interrelationship between Kimchi Ripening and CO2 Concentration of the Headspace in Flexible Packages Included with CO2 Absorber (CO2 흡수제 함유 김치포장에서 CO2 농도와 제품 숙성도의 상호관련성)

  • CO2 concentration in kimchi package has emerged recently as a potential index of product ripening to be monitored or sensed in intelligent packaging. Considering that addition of CO2 absorber into the flexible kimchi package changes behavior of its CO2 concentration, ripening of kimchi in total acidity, package CO2 concentration in partial pressure (PCO2) and package volume at 10℃ were estimated by mathematical model for two size packages included with different CO2 absorbers. In small size package containing 0.5 kg of kimchi, relatively less gas permeable low density polyethylene (LDPE) sachet of the absorber was found to give rise of PCO2 linearly correlated with acidity at acceptable conditions of absorber amount and size. The levels of PCO2 at optimum ripening were different with absorber amount. However, highly gas permeable microporous spunbonded film (Tyvek) sachet did not show the linear relationship except a condition of 1.5 g of CO2 absorbent. In large size package containing 2.0 kg, absorber sachets of LDPE and Tyvek could give the linear relationship between product acidity and package PCO2 but at different levels (PCO2 of package with LDPE sachet: 0.46~0.79 bar, PCO2 of package with Tyvek sachet: 0.00~0.75 bar). The PCO2 at optimal ripening was found to be less variable with LDPE sachets than with Tyvek ones. Use of package CO2 concentration as an indicator of kimchi ripening was shown to be possible on the limited conditions where the linear relationship between them is established or confirmed.

A Study on the Recovery of Li2CO3 from Cathode Active Material NCM(LiNiCoMnO2) of Spent Lithium Ion Batteries

  • In this study, an experiment is performed to recover the Li in $Li_2CO_3$ phase from the cathode active material NMC ($LiNiCoMnO_2$) in waste lithium ion batteries. Firstly, carbonation is performed to convert the LiNiO, LiCoO, and $Li_2MnO_3$ phases within the powder to $Li_2CO_3$ and NiO, CoO, and MnO. The carbonation for phase separation proceeds at a temperature range of $600^{\circ}C{\sim}800^{\circ}C$ in a $CO_2$ gas (300 cc/min) atmosphere. At $600{\sim}700^{\circ}C$, $Li_2CO_3$ and NiO, CoO, and MnO are not completely separated, while Li and other metallic compounds remain. At $800^{\circ}C$, we can confirm that LiNiO, LiCoO, and $Li_2MnO_3$ phases are separated into $Li_2CO_3$ and NiO, CoO, and MnO phases. After completing the phase separation, by using the solubility difference of $Li_2CO_3$ and NiO, CoO, and MnO, we set the ratio of solution (distilled water) to powder after carbonation as 30:1. Subsequently, water leaching is carried out. Then, the $Li_2CO_3$ within the solution melts and concentrates, while NiO, MnO, and CoO phases remain after filtering. Thus, $Li_2CO_3$ can be recovered.

  • Magnetic and structural properties of CoFeZr alloy films as a function of Zr concentration and magnetoresistive properties of spin valves incorporated with amorphous CoFeZr alloy films have been studied. Magnetization and coercivity of CoFeZr alloy films decreased as the Zr content increased. A single amorphous CoFeZr phase was formed when the Zr content is about above 18 at%. Magnetoresistance ratio and exchange coupling field of spin valves with amorphous CoFeZr were reduced slightly as compared with spin valves with CoFe because the resistance of amophous CoFeZr is higher than that of crystalline CoFe. However, the ${\Delta}{\rho}$ of spin valves with amorphous CoFeZr was improved due to reduction of current shunting.

Co/Ti 다층 박막 구조 시스템에서의 계면반응

  • Co/Ti 다층 박막을 제조하기 위해 직류원 마그네트론 스퍼터링 시스템을 이용하여 (100)실리콘 단결정 기판위에 Co와 Ti층을 각각 2/2, 5/5, 10/10 nm 정도의 두께로 조절하여 세가지 조성의 Co/Ti 다층 박막을 제조하였다. 이러한 Co/Ti 다층 박막의 후속 열처리는 Ar 가스분위기 하에서 Tube furnace를 이용하여 20$0^{\circ}C$와 30$0^{\circ}C$, 40$0^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 진행하였다. 증착초기에서부터 후속 열처리 공정을 진행하는 동안, Co/Ti 다층 박막에서의 계면반응을 미세 구조 변화 및 전기, 자기적 특성변화와 연관지어 관찰하였다. Co/Ti 다층 박막의 결정 구조와 미세 구조 변화를 관찰하기 위해 각각 X-선 회절기와 투과 전자 현미경을 사용하였고, 다층 박막의 전기적, 자기적 특성 변화를 관찰하기 위해 각각 4점 탐침기, 진동 시료형 자속계를 이용하였다. Co/Ti 다층 박막을 20$0^{\circ}C$의 저온에서 열처리를 한 경우에는 증착 초기의 계면반응에 의해 형성된 비정질 층이 성장하였고, 30$0^{\circ}C$와 40$0^{\circ}C$의 고온에서 열처리를 하는 경우에는 비정질 측의 성장보다는 새로운 화합물 CoTi 결정상이 형성되면서 비정질상은 오히려 감소하였다. 즉, Co/Ti 다층 박막의 계면 반응은 결정질 Co와 Ti을 계면 반응물로 소모시키면서 비정질 층을 성장시키는 비정질화 반응이 활발히 일어났다. 특히, 소모된 계면 반응물로 소모시키면서 비정질 층을 성장시키는 비정질화 반응일 활발히 일어났다. 특히, 계면 반응물로 소모시키면서 비정질 층을 성장시키는 비정질화 반응일 활발히 일어났다. 특히, 소모된 계면 반응물 Co와 Ti 중에서 Ti의 소모속도가 더 빠르게 관찰되었다. 이로부터 Ti 이 증착초기에서 저온 열처리 과정동안 Co/Ti 다층 박막의 계면에서 일어나는 비정질화 반응의 주 확산자로 작용했다는 것을 알 수 있다. 한편, 30$0^{\circ}C$와 40$0^{\circ}C$의 고온에서 열처리한 Co/Ti 다층 박막의 계면 반응은, 비정질 반응에 의한 비정질층의 형성보다는 새로운 화합물 결정질 CoTi상을 형성시키는 결정화 반응이 우세했다. Co/Ti 다층 박막의 전기적 저항은, 열처리에 의한 비정질 층의 생성 및 성장으로 인해 증가하였고 새로운 저저항 CoTi 결정상의 형성으로 인해 감소하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 Co/Ti 다층 박막의 포화 자화값은, 열처리에 의한 계면에서의 비정질화 반응과 CoTi 결정화 반응으로 인해 강자성체인 Co 결정상이 감소됨에 따라 감소하는 경향을 나타냈다.

  • Carbon dioxide enrichment for greenhouse crops has generally been a standard commercial practice for many years. Vegetable crops such as tomato, cucumber, and lettuce respond positively to the $CO_2$ enrichment. But improper $CO_2$ enrichment leads to physiological damage and economical loss. This study was carried out to develop a $CO_2$ concentration control algorithm considering growth stage and efficiency. The measurand was $CO_2$ consumption rate and top fresh weight that represents growth stage. The weight of top fresh lettuce as a whole in the tray was measured through a non-destructive method. The demand in $CO_2$ concentration according to growth stage was investigated. The results are summarized as follows. 1. The $CO_2$ consumption rate could be measured within the error of $\pm$ 15.4mg$CO_2$/hr in the range of $CO_2$ concentration of 500-1500ppm. 2. The weight of top fresh lettuce could be measured within the error $\pm$ 4.3g in the range of 0-1400g. 3. The $CO_2$ control model developed could determine an economical $CO_2$ supply rate considering $CO_2$ consumption rate and leakage rate. 4. The $CO_2$ control algorithm based on the control model was composed of feedforward control for maintaining a stable $CO_2$ concentration level, and feedback control with $CO_2$ consumption rate and top fresh weight for adapting to the change in $CO_2$ demand by growth stage. 5. For the performance test with the developed control algorithm on lettuce the decrease in $CO_2$ supply rate was obtained without a significant decrease in top fresh weight.

Effects of Permalloy Multilayered Schemes and CoZrNb Intermediate Layer on Recording Characteristics of CoCr/NiFe Media (Permalloy 다층화와 CoZrNb 중간층이 CoCr/NiFe 매체의 기록특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The read/write characteristics of CoCr/NiFe double layered media are strongly affected by the magnetic properties of NiFe magnetic soft layer as well as those of CoCr recording layer. Modification of the permalloy layer by NiFe/Ge multilayer scheme resulted in the higher recording sensitivity and the higher reproduced voltage of CoCr/NiFe medium and this is attributed to the higher permeability of the back layer and high perpendicular anisotropy of the CoCr recording layer. Although higher permeability of back layer results in higher recording sensitivity, the increment of the reproduced voltage was not remarkable, which can be confirmed in the FEM numerical analysis. On the contrary, peak shift characteristics of the CoCr/NiFe medium with the NiFe multi back layer was deteriorated compared to that of the CoCr/NiFe medium with NiFe single back layer. Insertion of ferromagnetic thin CoZrNb intermediate layer between CoCr and NiFe layer was effective to ensure large reproduced voltage and low peak shift. These recoridng characteristics were also discussed in connection with microstructural characteristics.

  • Standard Protocol Optimized for Resource-Constrained IoT Environment Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) supports web-based communication between a sensor node in the IoT environment and a client on the Internet. The CoAP is a Request / Response model that responds to the client's CoAP Request message by responding with a CoAP Response message from the server. CoAP recommends the use of CoAP-DTLS for message protection. However, validation of the use of DTLS in the IoT environment is underway. We analyze CoAP and DTLS security mode, evaluate performance of secure channel creation time, security channel creation step time, and RAM / ROM consumption through Cooja simulator and evaluate the possibility of real environment application.

Spatio-Temporal Monitoring of Soil CO2 Fluxes and Concentrations after Artificial CO2 Release (인위적 CO2 누출에 따른 토양 CO2 플럭스와 농도의 시공간적 모니터링)

  • CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) is a technical process to capture $CO_2$ from industrial and energy-based sources, to transfer and sequestrate impressed $CO_2$ in geological formations, oceans, or mineral carbonates. However, potential $CO_2$ leakage exists and causes environmental problems. Thus, this study was conducted to analyze the spatial and temporal variations of $CO_2$ fluxes and concentrations after artificial $CO_2$ release. The Environmental Impact Evaluation Test Facility (EIT) was built in Eumseong, Korea in 2015. Approximately 34kg $CO_2$ /day/zone were injected at Zones 2, 3, and 4 among the total of 5 zones from October 26 to 30, 2015. $CO_2$ fluxes were measured every 30 minutes at the surface at 0m, 1.5m, 2.5m, and 10m from the $CO_2$ releasing well using LI-8100A until November 13, 2015, and $CO_2$ concentrations were measured once a day at 15cm, 30cm, and 60cm depths at every 0m, 1.5m, 2.5m, 5m, and 10m from the well using GA5000 until November 28, 2015. $CO_2$ flux at 0m from the well started increasing on the fifth day after $CO_2$ release started, and continued to increase until November 13 even though the artificial $CO_2$ release stopped. $CO_2$ fluxes measured at 2.5m, 5.0m, and 10m from the well were not significantly different with each other. On the other hand, soil $CO_2$ concentration was shown as 38.4% at 60cm depth at 0m from the well in Zone 3 on the next day after $CO_2$ release started. Soil $CO_2$ was horizontally spreaded overtime, and detected up to 5m away from the well in all zones until $CO_2$ release stopped. Also, soil $CO_2$ concentrations at 30cm and 60cm depths at 0m from the well were measured similarly as $50.6{\pm}25.4%$ and $55.3{\pm}25.6%$, respectively, followed by 30cm depth ($31.3{\pm}17.2%$) which was significantly lower than those measured at the other depths on the final day of $CO_2$ release period. Soil $CO_2$ concentrations at all depths in all zones were gradually decreased for about 1 month after $CO_2$ release stopped, but still higher than those of the first day after $CO_2$ release stared. In conclusion, the closer the distance from the well and the deeper the depth, the higher $CO_2$ fluxes and concentrations occurred. Also, long-term monitoring should be required because the leaked $CO_2$ gas can remains in the soil for a long time even if the leakage stopped.

Reactive transport modeling of the $CO_2-H_2O$-cement reaction in a $CO_2$ injection well for $CO_2$ geological storage ($CO_2$ 지중저장 주입정에서의 $CO_2-H_2O$-시멘트 반응 운송 모델링)

  • $CO_2$ leakage from a geological formation utilized for $CO_2$ storage could result in failure of the facility and threaten the environment, as well as human safety and health. A reactive transport model of a $CO_2-H_2O$-cement reaction was constructed to understand chemical changes in the case of $CO_2$ leakage through a cement crack in an injection well, which is the most probable leakage pathway during geological storage. The model results showed the dissolution of portlandite and CSH (calcium silicate hydrate) within the cement paste, and the precipitation of secondary CSH and calcite as the $CO_2$ plume migrated along the crack. Calcite occupied most of the crack after 3 year of reaction, which could be maintained until 30 years after crack development. The present results could be applied in the development of technology to prevent $CO_2$ leakage and to enhance the integrity of wells constructed for $CO_2$ geological storage.

  • Objectives : Cnidium officinale(CO) has been used for medication for stroke in the Oriental Medicine. So this study was planned to investigate the effects of CO on the focal ischemia-induced by Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion(MCAO) in rats Materials and methods : The focal ischemia was induced by MCAO. CO extracts through oral administration and herbal acupuncture at GB2l was carried out during 3 weeks after focal ischemia-induced. Eight-arm radial maze was used for the behavioral task. For the neuroprotective effect of CO, we investigated AchE, ChAT, and NGF-expression by immnohistochemical method. Results : The error rate in the eight-arm radial maze task was significantly decreased in normal group compared to control group on 1-6days, OA-CO1(CO oral administration, 0.8g/kg) group on 1-6days, OA-CO2(CO oral administration, 1.6g/kg) group on 1-3,5,6days, HA-CO1(CO herbal acupuncture, 0.016g/kg) group on 2,3,6days, HA-CO2(CO herbal acupuncture, 0.008g/kg) group on 1-3,5,6days. The rate of correct choice was significantly increased in OA-CO1, HA-CO2. The density of neurons in the hippocampal CA1 was the most increased in OA-CO1, HA-CO1, HA-CO2. The density of ChAT in the hippocampal CA1 was increased in OA-CO1, HA-CO2. The density of ChAT in the hippocampal CA1 was significantly increased in OA-CO1, HA-CO2. The density of NGE in the hippocampal CAI was significantly increased in OA-CO1, OA-CO2, HA-CO2. Conclusions : These results suggest that CO oral administration with 0.8g/kg and CO herbal acupuncture with 0.008g/kg might be used as a regulator of cell death of cholinergic system induced by stroke.
