The purpose of this research was to find out the most explainable variables influencing fashion leadership. This research was carried out by both the theoretical and empirical study. For the theoretical study, the research of fashion leadership was based on the fashion opinion leadership and innovativeness. The study included the analysis of variables influencing fashion leadership, such as clothing importance, clothing conformity, clothing anticonformity, perceived risk of clothing, use of fashion information source and demographic variables. For the empirical study, fashion leadership was measured by fashion opinion leadership and innovativeness. The variables influencing on the fashion leadership were measured by self-image, social participation, clothing behaviors(clothing importance, normative conformity, identificational conformity, clothing anticonformity, clothing independance), demographic variables(major fields of students, year of education, family income). Data were obtained from 335 female college and university students in Chung-Buk area by self-administered questionaire. The data collected through the questionaire were analyzed by the stastical thechique-stepwise regression. The results of the study were as follow: 44.6 percent of the total variance of fashion leadership was explained by the five variables: Clothing importance, use of marketer-dominated fashion information source, identificational conformity, traditional-modern self image and clothing anticonformity. Family income and the major fields of students are significantly related to the fashion leadership.
This study applies framing theory to the presentation of trend or styling information in fashion journalism. A qualitative content analysis was conducted with three lifestyle magazines. The findings include attribute, attitude, and source-based frames. The attribute-based frame was used to increase the versatility and feasibility of design by emphasizing particular attributes of clothes. To increase versatility, an item could be presented either as a basic or trendy design. To increase feasibility, fashion information could be customized by price points (i.e., affordable frame) or body type (i.e., flattering frame). The attitude-based frame includes prescriptive and rule-breaking frames. The source-based frame offers a source of trend or styling information. Expert, celebrity, and consumer frame emerged under the source-based frame. Findings reveal how fashion and style information is defined and crafted.
This study analyzes the effect of clothing involvement using meta-analysis. Metal-analysis (the analysis of analyses) is widely used in various academic areas to integrate individual empirical studies and generalize the knowledge of a specific research field. Previous studies regarding clothing involvement published since 1990 were researched from the KISS database using clothing involvement and fashion involvement as a keyword; subsequently, 127 articles were identified. Studies that had insufficient statistics or included clothing involvement as a moderating (or intervening variable) were eliminated; subsequently, 36 articles provided a total of 75 data sets that were used for the final analysis. Dependent variables were grouped into 10 categories to compare the differences between high and low involvement groups. The effect size of clothing involvement was large in non-personal information source; however, it was small in utility, brand royalty and quality. In the 7 categories of relational studies that showed homogeneity, the relation size regarding conformity was smaller than the personal information source.
The purpose of this study was to compare clothing benefits and the types of fashion information sources according to family life cycle. Subjects were selected through stratified sampling technique in Seoul and suburban area. Collection of the research data was made using a self-administered questionnaire survey. Factor analysis, ANOVA, and Duncan test were used to conduct the data analysis on 562 out of 600 questionnaires. Clothing benefit variables were reduced to five factors : fashion/social status, individuality, function/comfort, figure flaws compensation, and economic value. The result showed significant differences on 3 clothing benefits(fashion/social status, individuality, and function/comfort) and 5 fashion information soures (celebrities, street fashion, T.V commercial, Internet/home shopping, fashion catalog) according to family life cycle.
The purposes of this study were to analyze the lifestyle of women in their 50's and 60's and to provide the basis for the efficient strategy of silver market by classifying women in their 50's and 60's according to lifestyle types and investigating the effect of consumers' lifestyle and demographic characteristics on consumers' clothing buying motived and information sources. In this study, a self-administered questionnaire was distributed to women in their 50's and 60's. 226 questionnaires of 350 were used in the following analysis. The data were analyzed with the SPSS package. The results of this study were as follows. First, lifestyle were analyzed to find out the underlying factors, and then the subjects were grouped according to factor scores by the cluster analysis. Four lifestyle types were defined. They were the traditional family-oriented, the ostentatious purchase, the economical material-oriented, the active economics-oriented type. Second, a consumer's buying motives and information sources in buying clothing were significantly different depending on the consumer's lifestyle. The ostentatious purchase type attached importance to impulse buying and in diversion in clothing buying motives and display in information sources. The economical material-oriented type tend to buy clothes to purchase economically during bargain sales. The active economics-oriented type attached importance to worn out clothing in buying motives.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the clothing pursuit benefits of female consumers in twenties, and explain the differences in underwear purchase behaviors among them. For data collection, research questionnaires were responded by 232 female consumers living in Busan. The collected data were analyzed by the frequency factor analysis using SPSS 12.0 for Windows, the factor analysis using Varimax, reliability analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test, and ${\chi}^2$-test. The results of this study were as follows: First, consumers' clothing pursuit benefit was drawn from six factors: Self-esteem, Individuality, Fashion, Brand, Practicality, and Price pursuit. The results of the factor analysis of clothing benefit were divided into four groups: Brand pursuit group, Fashion pursuit group, Self-esteem pursuit group, and Individuality/rationality pursuit group. Second, the results of analysing underwear purchase behaviors among clothing pursuit benefit groups showed significant differences in purchase motive, source of information, evaluation criteria, and purchase practices. The underwear purchase motives were significantly different in diversity purchase factor between the groups; sources of information used for underwear purchase were significantly different in the window display factor. The underwear evaluation criteria were significantly different among the groups in decoration and practicality factors, while purchase practices were significantly different among the groups only in underwear purchasing places.
The purpose of this study was to target digital generation consumers and determine potential effects of their demographic characteristics and variables concerning digital consumer information upon their characteristics in purchasing clothing. This study has its implications in the sense that it determines digital generation's awareness and reception of digital consumer information and their utilization of digital consumer information source, so that it can help understand digital generation consumers' behaviors of information search and the phenomena of digital market in this age of knowledge and information, and can ultimately provide reference data useful for guidance in favorable consumer life as well as consumer education based on digital devices. The results of this study can be summed up as follows: It is found that digital generation consumers reached higher level in the awareness of digital consumer information. The reception of digital consumer information and the utilization of digital consumer information source are found as middle level. Based on these results, this study can give the following suggestions for consumer education: Lately, digital devices have been widely popularized into larger number of users, so that we have more chances to buy desired products on the web or mobile device. In particular, the rate of clothing purchase on the web tends to increase year by year. However, our digital consumers still lack in their ability to utilize digital consumer information in terms of quantitatively increasing purchase of products on the basis of digital consumer information. Thus, it is necessary to provide consumers with a formulated education in their information search and shopping using digital devices, so that they will have better ability to use digital consumer information in the future.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of demographic characteristics and general buying characteristics of knitwear consumers on evaluation criteria and information source searching. In this study, a self-administered questionnaire was distributed to young career women and female undergraduate students. Of 580 questionnaires, 496 were used in the following analysis. The data was analyzed with the SPSS package. The research method used factor and reliability analysis to segment consumers by their knitwear evaluation criteria. T-test, one-way ANOVA and χ²were used to characterize the impact of characteristics of the consumer on knitwear evaluation criteria and information source searching in buying knitwear. The results of this study were as follows. First, the information sources of consumers were significantly different depending on their demographic characteristics(age). According to the difference in relationship between the age of consumers and information sources, the younger the consumer, the more information in fashion magazine, the older, in fashion advertisement on catalog. Second, the knitwear evaluation criteria of consumers was classified according to six characteristics - quality, price, aesthetic, situation, self-expression and external. Their knitwear evaluation criteria were significantly different depending on demographic characteristics(job, age, education, marital status) and the general buying characteristics of knitwear(annual knitwear/clothing buying expense and frequency). Career women and married women placed significant importance on practical aspects like quality and price characteristics, while undergraduate students and single women placed significant importance on practical aspects like quality and price characteristics, while undergraduate students and single women placed significant importance on aesthetic and self-expression characteristics. Also, a group with higher annual knitwear/clothing buying expense and frequency considered aesthetic and self-expression characteristics more important. The lower the annual knitwear/clothing buying expense and frequency, the higher a group considered quality and price characteristics more important.
The purposes of the study were to identify the general predictors of fashion leadership and to compare the fashion leadership predictors among different social groups. Thirty-one variables (thirteen fashion-related variables, five social variables, nine psychological variables, four demographic variables) were included in the regression analysis. Data were obtained from 446 women living in Seoul area by self-administered questionnaire. The results of the study were as follows: 1. Seven variables explained about 64 percent of the total variance of fashion leadership. The most important predictors of fashion leadership were fashion interest, use of marketer-dominated fashion information source, and 'stable-creative' self-image. 2. The predictors that consistently predict fashion leadership across different social groups (students, career women, housewives) were fashion interest and use of marketer-dominated information source. The predictors of innovativeness and opinion leadership were very different among groups.
This study is to compare clothing purchasing behaviors between Korean and American college students, especially men. A theoretical study was reviewed, then the survey was performed. 200 questionnaires were utilized for this study. The SPSS 12.0 was used to analyze the technical statistics like average, frequency, t-test, $X^2$, and factor analysis. The result showed, first there were some differences in most of all the clothing Purchasing behaviors such as the reason for the purchases, the purchasing information source, the standard of selecting clothes and the standards of selecting stores. There were slight differences in the reasons for the purchases between Korean and American college men. Both of them said that they purchase clothes to satisfy their needs and the situation. The American college men were slightly higher than the Korean college men for both the need.situation and impulse motive. Regarding the information sources for the purchase, The Korean college men were slightly higher than the American college men for the media information sources and lower than them for the human information sources. Regarding the standard for store selection, the college men from both countries considered product service to be the most important. The American college men considered the convenient and store services to be more important than Korean college men. Regarding the standard fur clothes selection, the Korean college men considered the clothing that matched their personal styles to be the most important standard, however, the American college men considered the attractive from the opposite sex as the important standard.
