The purpose of the study were first to propose and determine the influence of sensation seeking tendency on exploratory behavior related to clothing would be mediated by consumer's clothing involvement and second to examine whether sensation seeking tendency is applicable variable on segmenting market expecially using underlying factors of sensation seeking tendency. A questionaire was developed and data were collected from 342 women ranged in age from 0 to 34 years. They were conveniently selected as a proper sample for applying and examining sensation seeking tendency. Arousal seeking tendency scale(Mehrabian & Russel 1974) was selected for operationalizing sensation seeking tendency and exploratory behavior related to clothing. As a result of regression the indirect effect mediated by clothing involvement of sensation seeking tendency on exploratory behavior was larger than the direct one. The influences of factors of sensation-seeking tendency behavior was larger than the direct one. The influences of factors of sensation-seeking tendency were also investigated. The influence of change-seeking tendency and new enviornment seeking tendency was considerably mediated by clothing involvement but that of risk-seeing tendency was not. Artistic sensation seeking tendency had little effect on clothing involvement and exploratory behavior related to clothing. As a result of regression the indirect effect mediated by clothing involvement of sensation seeking tendency on exploratory behavior was larger than influence of change-seeking tendency and new enviornment seeking tendency was considerably mediated by clothing involvement but that of risk-seeking tendency was not. Artistic sensation seeking tendency had little effect on clothing involvement and exploratory behavior related to clothing.
The purpose of this study was to identify Chinese new generation women's clothing exploratory behavior according to their sensitivity pursuit propensity. The respondents were 500 Chinese new generation women residing in Soju City, China. Frequencies, percent, mean, one-way ANOVA, factor analysis, Chi-square test, and cluster analysis were done by use of SPSS PC+. The results were as follows; 1. The factors of sensitivity pursuit propensity were adventure & diversity, change, new atmosphere, and artistic sensitivity. And factors of clothing exploratory behavior were brand turnover, innovative clothing purchasing or wearing, clothing information collection through visiting store, and clothing information collection through contacting neighbors or advertisement. 2. The Chinese new generation women were classified into the creativity pursuit, the adventure & change pursuit, the multi-sensation pursuit, and the sensation retard according to their sensitivity pursuit propensity. 3. The creativity pursuit explored clothing for brand turnover and information through visiting store, communication, or advertisement, were found more among the unmarried late 20's with higher education and jobs. The adventure & change pursuit explored clothing information through visiting store, were found more among the unmarried university students in early 20's. The multi-sensation pursuit explored innovative clothing purchasing, were found more among the unmarried early 20's with jobs or students. The sensation retard explored clothing information through communication or advertisement, considered quality more, were found more among the married early 30's with lower education level and jobs.
To pursue youth and agelessness can be regarded as a global trend today. The younger a woman recognizes herself to be, the more sensation seeking tendency and the more active fashion exploratory behavior of younger generation she would show. This study attempted to empirically examine the relationship between sensation seeking behavior and fashion exploratory behavior according to the difference age in women in their 30's to 50s'. After the survey, a total of 480 questionnaires was used for data analysis. The results of this study are as follows, 1. It was found that there was a very high correlation among cognitive ages, and the lower cognitive age a woman had, the higher difference age she showed. 2. Sensation seeking tendency of adult women was shown in two factors of change seeking and artistic sensation seeking, and these factors accounted for 73.99% of the total variances. Fashion exploratory behavior had 4 factors such as fashion leadership, behavior of hedonic shopping, behavior of clothing communication and behavior of clothing purchase with taking a risk, and these four factors accounted for 75.87% of the total variances. 3. The higher difference age and the higher tendency of sensation seeking an adult woman had, the higher fashion exploratory behavior was shown, and the higher the difference age, the higher tendency of change seeking and artistic sensation seeking.
The purposes of this study were to investigate the effects of clothing values, self-perceived physical attractiveness on sensuous clothing behavior(see-through, body emphasis, body exposure, skinny), and also to figure out if any causal relationships existed among variables and whether demographic variables affected these relationships. For data collection, a questionnaire was administrated to 500 female college students in Gwangju City, Korea. The results were summarized as follows. First, clothing values were divided into six factors: religious clothing value, political clothing value, exploratory clothing value, social clothing value, economic clothing value, aesthetic clothing value. Sensuous clothing behaviors were divided into four factors: see-through, body emphasis, body exposure, skinny. Overall clothing values had positive effects on sensuous clothing behaviors. Second, self-perceived physical attractiveness turned out to have significant effects on overall sensuous clothing behaviors. Third, clothing values turned out to have significant effects on overall self-perceived physical attractiveness. This study confirmed that clothing values and self-perceived physical attractiveness turned out to have significant effects on sensuous clothing behavior.
This study explores the determinants of clothing disposition and examines their effect on the dimensions of clothing disposition behavior. The data of 316 women were collected nationwide using an online self-administered questionnaire. This study initially identified five types of disposition behavior as revising, permanent separation, giving away, selling, and donating to charity. Exploratory and confirmative factor analysis identified the underlying determinants of clothing disposition as self-concept, reusability, economic factor, social environment, affective association, storage, fashionableness, and a sense of belongingness. Structural equation modeling was conducted to examine the relationships between variables. The results demonstrated that six out of eight determinants significantly affected clothing disposition behavior. The effects of social environment and a sense of belongingness were relatively strong determinants that influenced the four types of disposition behaviors. However, self-concept and affective association did not influence the disposition behaviors. A series of one-way MANOVA was conducted to determine the effect of the eight demographic variables on the four modes of clothing disposition. Giving away, permanent separation, and donating to charity differed significantly in the groups of three demographic variables such as age, monthly income, and marital status. This study empirically elucidates what criteria consumers use when confronted with unused clothing and how the determinants of clothing disposition influence the modes of clothing disposition behavior. This study provides a framework for clothing disposition behavior and its determinants as well as suggests a new approach to clothing disposition behavior and improvements in marketing decisions.
This study is intended to help internet marketers by trying to segment consumer who had experience in buying clothing in internet shopping-malls. Concrete purpose of this study was 1)to segment by Buying Motives of Internet Clothing Buyer, 2) to identify demographic traits of segmented groups and 3) to identify buying behavior traits, internet shopping-mall choice criteria of segmented groups. The data of 500 respondents were collected by questionnaires in internet survey site. The results were as follows : 1) 5 factors; convenience, informational, hedonic, economic, easiness of refund were revealed by factor analysis, 2) 3 group types by buying motives; information-oriented, hedonic, convenience-oriented were identified by cluster analysis, 3) 3 groups were different in demographic traits, 4) goal-directed/experience-directed behavior and shopping-mall choice criteria of three groups were different. And then marketing implications were discussed.
In 2000s, the rapid growth of domestic and foreign fast fashion brands led to an increase in the frequency of shopping for consumers and a significant reduction in the average life span of fashion products. As the kinds and quantity of fashion products owned by individuals increase, the problem of rational clothing management becomes a new concern. The purpose of this study was to investigate the demographic, socio-psychological and purchase behavior factors influencing the frequency of closet cleanup behavior. A total of 278 questionnaires were analyzed. Frequency, exploratory factor analysis, reliability, t-test and regression analysis were used for data analysis using SPSS 22.0. This study results were as follows. First, the frequency of women's closet cleanup behavior was higher than that of men's closet cleanup behavior. Second, the number of brothers and sisters significantly affected the frequency of closet cleanup behavior. Third, the stronger the attachment to fashion products, the higher the frequency of closet cleanup behavior. Fourth, the lower the fashion product retention tendency, the higher the frequency of closet cleanup behavior. Fifth, the higher the frequency of purchasing fashion products, the higher the frequency of closet cleanup behavior. The results of current study provide various implications for educators and marketers who are interested in reasonable management behavior of fashion goods.
Most of established study about consumer behavior was directly connected abstract value with concrete purchase behavior, nevertheless several recognizable process is intervened between abstract concept and concept behavior. Of course researchers suggest hierarchical causality through means-end chain model. However empirical study is insufficient. And it's not certain whether the consumer's personal value affects actual evaluation about product attributes. Thus the purpose of this paper was to explore hierarchical causality of personal value, benefits sought and clothing product attributes and to suggest an alternative approach method. For the empircial study the data sets were collected through 150 female consumers living in Pusan and SAS and LISREL VIII were used for statistical analysis. As the result, hierarchical causality suggested by means-end chain model was positively substantiated. That is, benefits sought is differentiated according to personal value, and actual product attributes are indirectly influenced by personal value through benefits sought. Benefits sought are found to be key mediating variables.
This study aims to investigate the relationship between consumers’ clothing consumption values, demographic features, and clothing disposal behaviors. The data were collected from 300 women aged between 20 and 59 through the online survey with the self-administered questionnaire. A series of exploratory and confirmative factor analysis was conducted to identify the dimensions of clothing consumption values and clothing disposition behaviors. Clothing consumption values consisted of six dimensions including conditional value, individuality value, fashion value, social value, practical value, and self-expression value. Clothing disposition behaviors were discovered as four dimensions such as discarding, giving, selling, and donating. A structural equation modeling analysis was employed to examine the relationship between clothing consumption values and disposition behaviors. While individuality value, fashion value, and practical value had a significantly positive impact on donating, giving, and discarding behaviors, both practical value and self-expression value negatively influenced discarding behavior. Fashion value negatively affected giving behavior. Employing a series of MANOVA, one-way ANOVA and sheffe's multiple range test, this study found that there were significant effects of age, marital status, monthly income, and monthly clothing expenses on giving and donating behaviors. This study suggests that fashion firms should be aware of clothing disposition in terms of social and environmental concerns and understand diverse consumer disposal behaviors and utilize them as a social marketing strategy.
This study attempted to understand post-purchase consumer return experiences which had not received much attention in consumer behavior research. As a first step to understand return experiences from consumers' viewpoint, the study took an exploratory approach and identified themes and patterns from subjective consumer experiences. Whenever possible, attribution theory was applied to interpret the identified patterns. A total of 99 cases were collected from an open-ended questionnaire and analyzed based on a qualitative method. The reasons of product return was classified into five groups: changing mind; product defects; unsuitable products; products not expected; and for a better deal. External attribution was observed for return decisions caused by consumers' changed mind as well as by product defects. Dissatisfaction with defected products seemed to be intensified or reduced by service failure or success in the post-purchase service encounter. Consumer expectation and situations seemed to affect this process. Overall, the study supported attribution theory in the post-purchase return experience, and insights for research questions were proposed.
