  • Recently, following the commercialization and market entry of smart clothes with diverse functions, smart clothes have been changing from technology-centered products to user-centered products. However, the analysis of consumer demand centered on actual commercialized products is lacking. Therefore, this study classified commercialized smart clothes by function and analyzed the demand and requirements of smart clothes according to sports/outdoor clothes consumption behaviors. As a result, consumers were classified according to their sports/outdoor clothes consumption behaviors into an outdoor leading group with high consumption propensity, an outdoor pursuit group with medium consumption propensity, and an outdoor following group with low consumption propensity. Among the commercialized smart clothes, those with a heartbeat measuring function, those with a heating function, and those with a light-emitting function were presented and demand analysis was conducted. According to the results, the outdoor leading group and the outdoor pursuit group had higher levels of awareness, preference, and purchase intentions than the outdoor following group. In addition, the outdoor leading group showed the highest level of purchase price acceptance while the outdoor following group showed the lowest level of purchase price acceptance. However, this study has a limitation that the acceptance for smart clothes were analyzed with consumers who had experience in sports outdoor clothes consumption. Therefore, in future, studies will be conducted with a wide range of consumers.

  • This research analyzes the status of clothes purchase and the size fit of the clothes for kindergarten children in the Daegu city area. The total of 344 questionnaires were analyzed. The summary and the conclusion are as follows: First, the frequency of accompanying children when purchasing appeared mostly 'sometimes accompany'. Second, the parents appeared 'sometimes reflect children's opinions'. Third, the main information source was 'store display'. The main place of purchase was large discount stores, internet home-shopping, and department stores (respectively) with significant differences in the age of the parent(p<.05) and monthly incomes(p<.001). In the clothes size selection, 72.1% of the parents selected 'one size larger' at time purchase and showed asignificant difference by monthly income. Repair-experience after purchase appeared in 31.4% of the samples because of the inadequate length and width of the clothes. The unfit clothes parts were in the order of pant length, sleeve length, waist part, jacket length, pant width, hip part, and crotch, which showed a significant difference in children based on gender. The salient purchasing point for child clothing was in the order of 'size fit', 'color and pattern', 'design' and 'convenience in action'. It is important to consider that kindergarten children need adequate size for growing and convenient pattern designs (that include materials at stretching parts) for positive acting because they are in a period of frequent activity and growth.

For the data analysis, crosstabs, factor analysis, and one-way ANOVA were used. The results were as follows; first, middle-aged women were observed to purchase down-aging clothes "to look younger" and not purchase clothes "due to the lack of right sizes." For women who answered to 'not purchase clothes', they also acknowledged that they intended to purchase down-aging clothes in the future if the right size is available. Second, people in their early 40s significantly considered perceptual qualities such as fashion and brand names while people in their late 50s placed the most importance in practicality and wearability. For body shapes, people with overweight body types were found to significantly consider physical performance, practicality, and wearability. Third, the examination of purchase satisfaction levels by age groups showed that younger age groups had high satisfaction level for wear functionality related items that included size and activity however, the late 50s group had the lowest satisfaction level. Middle-aged women purchased clothes to look younger however, they simultaneously wear clothes that are plain and conservative or respectable and graceful. Therefore, the development of products reflect the analysis of designs that can help create a more youthful appearance and women's preferred styles are needed in addition to the establishment of a differentiated sizing system for middle-aged female consumers in the incorporation of the characteristics of middle-aged women's body parts.

Clothing purchase intention in internet shopping correlated significantly with home orientation in males, and with digital orientation in females. Subjects high in fun orientation placed importance on design as clothing purchase criteria. Males high in positive activity placed importance on price, color, sewing, brand, and wearing appearance. Females high in digital orientation believed design, color, material, refundment condition, and fashionability were important as purchase criteria. The level of digital orientation of dress purchasers in internet shopping-mall was higher than that of non-purchasers in case of males, and that of fun orientation was higher than that of non-purchasers in case of females.
