Artificial Neural Network for Quantitative Posture Classification in Thai Sign Language Translation System

  • In this paper, a problem of Thai sign language recognition using a neural network is considered. The paper addresses the problem in classifying certain signs conveying quantitative meaning, e.g., large or small. By treating those signs corresponding to different quantities as derived from different classes, the recognition error rate of the standard multi-layer Perceptron increases if the precision in recognizing different quantities is increased. This is due the fact that, to increase the quantitative recognition precision of those signs, the number of (increasingly similar) classes must also be increased. This leads to an increase in false classification. The problem is due to misinterpreting the amount of quantity the quantitative signs convey. In this paper, instead of treating those signs conveying quantitative attribute of the same quantity type (such as 'size' or 'amount') as derived from different classes, here they are considered instances of the same class. Those signs of the same quantity type are then further divided into different subclasses according to the level of quantity each sign is associated with. By using this two-level classification, false classification among main gesture classes is made independent to the level of precision needed in recognizing different quantitative levels. Moreover, precision of quantitative level classification can be made higher during the recognition phase, as compared to that used in the training phase. A standard multi-layer Perceptron with a back propagation learning algorithm was adapted in the study to implement this two-level classification of quantitative gesture signs. Experimental results obtained using an electronic glove measurement of hand postures are included.

태극침지표에 따른 사상체질감별에 대한 객관적 방법연구 (Classification of Sa-sang typology based on index signs for Tae-Geuk acupuncture: a narrative review)

  • Objectives: There are substantial variations on the methods of identifying Sa-sang typology in clinical practice. This review aimed to describe the clinical experiences on the classification of Sa-sang typology based on index signs for practice of Tae-Geuk acupuncture. Methods: Core physical signs and interpretation of treatment response for the classification of Sa-sang typology are suggested based on 42-year clinical experiences of the expert (the first author). Results: Epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound are the most important physical sign in the classification of Sa-sang typology. Clinical experiences indicate that there may be a positive association between the presence of epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound. Four sets of acupuncture points are matched for four types of Sa-sang institution, respectively. Appropriate match will resolve epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound, while this will not happen if inappropriate match is employed. Conclusion: I suggest that two physical signs (i.e., epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound) are essential for the classification of Sa-sang typology in Tae-Geuk acupuncture.

전수 학습을 이용한 도로교통표지 데이터 분류 효율성 향상 연구 (Research on the Efficiency of Classification of Traffic Signs Using Transfer Learning)

  • 본 연구에서는 1/1,000 수치지형도 및 정밀도로지도 제작에 있어서 도로 레이어를 구성하고 있는 교통안전표지 및 도로표지의 제작 공정에 있어서 딥러닝의 적용방안을 탐색하였다. 딥러닝의 이미지 분류에서 활용하는 전수학습을 이용하여 취득한 영상에 대한 학습자료 구축을 통해 도로 표지정보의 자동분류를 수행하였다. 분석결과 주의, 규제, 지시, 보조는 촬영된 이미지의 품질 및 형태 등 여러 가지 요소에 의해 정확도가 불규칙하게 나타났지만, 안내표지의 경우는 정확도가 97% 이상으로 높게 나타났다. 수치지도제작에 있어 전수학습을 이용한 이미지 자동분류 방식은 교통안전표지를 포함한 다양한 레이어들에 대한 자료 취득과 분류에 있어서 활용이 증가할 것으로 기대한다.

급성 후두개염 환자의 Scope Classification에 따른 특성 비교 (Comparison of Characteristics of Acute Epiglottitis According to Scope Classification)

  • Background and Objectives Scope classification is designed to classify acute epiglottitis according to laryngoscopic findings. There is no report about the utility of classification; the difference between the diagnosis and the prognosis by the Scope classification was not found. The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of Scope classification in patients with acute epiglottitis. Subject and Method 127 patients who had been admitted to our hospital were diagnosed with acute epiglottitis. The patients were classified by the Scope classification. We compared demographic characteristics, clinical symptoms and signs, laboratory findings, and clinical course among the patient groups and divided the results according to the Scope classification. Results There are no significant differences among the groups in demographic characteristics, clinical symptoms and signs, laboratory findings, and clinical course. Conclusion The Scope classification of acute epiglottitis does not seem to be a method to evaluate the severity of acute epiglottitis. Thus, we need to develop multidisciplinary approaches for acute epiglottitis.

초등학교 수학에서 취급하는 식의 정의와 분류에 관한 연구 (A Study on Definition and Classification of Expressions Dealt with in Elementary Mathematics)

  • 우리나라 초등학교 수학에서 다양한 식을 취급하고 있음에도 불구하고, 식 지도 내용의 체계화는 아직 미흡하다. 이것은 기본적으로 초등학교 수학에서 취급하는 식의 정체를 명확하게 드러내지 못하고 있기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 이 상황을 개선하기 위한 기초 작업으로, 식에 ${\square}$, ${\triangle}$ 등과 단어 또는 연어(連語)와 같은 과도기적 기호를 사용하는 초등학교 수학을 고려하는 입장에서, 먼저 식을 구성하는 요소로서의 기호를 분류하고, 그것에 바탕을 두어 식을 정의하고 분류하였다. 이러한 정의와 분류를 통해 초등학교 수학에서의 식 지도 내용의 체계화를 도모하는데 도움을 줄 수 있는 다음 네 가지 판단이 가능하다는 것을 결론으로 제시할 수 있다. 첫째, 식의 정체를 명확히 함으로써, 어떠한 표현이 식인지 아닌지 판별할 수 있다. 둘째, 식의 양태를 파악할 수 있다. 셋째, 식 지도 내용을 체계적으로 파악할 수 있다. 넷째, 식 지도 내용 사이의 위계를 파악할 수 있다.

  • In recent years, retinal disorders have become a serious health concern. Retinal disorders develop slowly and without obvious signs. To avoid vision deterioration, early detection and treatment are critical. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive and non-contact medical imaging technique used to acquire informative and high-resolution image of retinal area and underlying layers. Disease signs are difficult to detect because OCT images have many areas which are not related to any disease. In this paper, we present a deep learning-based method to perform multi-label classification on a long-tailed OCT dataset. Our method first extracts the region of interest and then performs the classification task. We achieve 98% accuracy, 92% sensitivity, and 99% specificity on our private OCT dataset. Using the heatmap generated from trained convolutional neural network, our method is more robust and explainable than previous approaches because it focuses on areas that contain disease signs.

중국 논문에 나타난 건선의 변증 분석 및 변증체계에 대한 고찰 (A Review on Patterns and Classification Criteria of Psoriasis by analyzing Chinese Theses)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to explore the types of pattern identification (PI, 辨證) and the differential points of PI used for the treatment of psoriasis in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) based on the Chinese references and to provide the evidences applying PI for the treatment of psoriasis in clinical practice. Methods : This study extracted patterns of psoriasis through database CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure) and analysis the patterns and classification criteria of the patterns. Those examined in the study are dermal symptoms, general symptoms, formula and herbs which are different depending on the patterns. Results : Total 60 studies were selected and 44 pattern types were extracted from them. We categorized the main pattern types on psoriasis used in TCM as 'blood-heat syndrome(BHS, 血熱證)', blood-stasis syndrome(BSS, 血瘀證), and 'blood-dryness syndrome(BDS, 血燥證)', 'dampness-heat syndrome(DHS, 濕熱證)' and 'yang-deficiency syndrome(YDS, 陽虛證)'. Among these patterns, BHS was the most common. In TCM, the pattern of BHS tended to have skin symptoms and signs related to inflammatory erythema and heat. Both BSS and BDS were characterized by long disease duration and poor healing. In addition, DHS tended to have the skin symptoms and signs such as oozing and severe itching. The symptoms and signs related to coldness mainly showed in YDS. For PI criteria, 'qi-blood-essence criteria(氣血津液辨證)' and 'eight-doctrine criteria(八鋼辨證) are commonly used. Conclusions : Our findings show that each PI on psoriasis in TCM has different characteristics related to dermal and general symptoms or signs. Further studies are needed to develop the diagnostic tool of PI on psoriasis reflecting on clinical practices in Korean Medicine by referring to the findings of this study about PI on psoriasis in TCM.

호흡기능장애와 관련된 간호진단의 타당도 조사 (Validity of Nursing Diagnoses Related to Difficulty in Respiratory Function)

  • This study was done to verify validity of nursing diagnoses related to difficulty in respiratory function. First, content validity was examined by an expert group considering the etiology and the signs / symptoms of three nursing diagnoses - ineffective airway clearance, ineffective breathing pattern, impaired gas exchange. Second, clinical validity was examined by comparing the frequencies of the etiologies and signs / symptoms of the three nursing diagnoses in clinical case studies with the results of the content validity. This study was a descriptive study. The sample consisted of 23 experts (professors, head nurses and clinical instructors) who had had a variety of experiences using nursing diagnoses in clinical practice, and 102 case reports done by senior student nurses of the college of nursing of Y-university. These reports were part of their clinical practice in the ICU. The instrument used for this study was a checklist for etiologies and signs and symptoms based on the literature, Doenges and Moorhouse (1988), Kim, McFarland, McLane (1991), Lee Won Hee et al. (1987), Kim Cho Ja et at. (1988). The data was collected over four month period from May 1992 to Aug. 1992. Data were analyzed using frequencies done with the SPSS / PC+ package. The results of this study are summarized as follows : 1. General Characteristics of the Expert Group A bachelor degree was held by 43.5% and a master or doctoral degree by 56.5% of the expert group. The average age of the expert group was 35.3 years. Their average clinical experience was 9.3 years and their average experience in clinical practice was 5.9 years. The general characteristics of the patients showed that there were more women than men, that the age range was from 1 to over 80. Most of their medical diagnoses were diagnoses related to the respiratory. system, circulation or neurologic system, and 50% or more of them had a ventilator with intubation or a tracheostomy. The number of cases for each nursing diagnoses was : · Ineffective airway clearance, 92 cases. · Ineffective breathing pattern, 18 cases. · Impaired gas exchange, 22 cases. 2. The opinion of the expert group as to the classification of the etiology, and signs and symptoms of the three nursing diagnoses was as follows : · In 31.8% of the cases the classification of etiology was clear. · In 22.7%, the classification of signs and symptoms was clear. · In 17.4%, the classification of nursing interventions was clear. 3. In the expert group 80% or mere agreed to ‘dysp-nea’as a common sign and symptom of the three nursing diagnoses. The distinguishing signs and symptoms of (Ineffective airway clearance) were ‘sputum’, ‘cough’, ‘abnormal respiratory sounds : rales’. The distinguishing sings and symptoms of (Ineffective breathing pattern) were ‘tachypnea’, ‘use of accessory muscle of respiration’, ‘orthopnea’ and for (Impaired gas exchange) it was ‘abnormal arterial blood gas’, 4. The distribution of etiology, and signs and symptoms of the three nursing diagnoses was as follows : · There was a high frequency of ‘increased secretion from the bronchus and trachea’ in both the expert group and the case reports as the etiology of ineffective airway clearance. · For the etiologies for ineffective breathing pat-tern, ‘rain’, ‘anxiety’, ‘fear’, ‘obstructions of the tract, ca and bronchus’ had a high ratio in the ex-pert group and ‘decreased expansion of lung’ in the case reports. · For the etiologies for impaired gas exchanges, ‘altered oxygen -carrying capacity of the blood’ and ‘excess accumulation of interstitial fluid in lung’ had a high ratio in the expert group and ‘altered oxygen supply’ in the case reports. · For signs and symptoms for ineffective airway clearance, ‘dyspnea’, ‘altered amount and character of sputum’ were included by 100% of the expert group. ‘Abnormal respiratory. sound(rate, rhonchi)’ were included by a high ratio of the expert group. · For the signs and symptoms for ineffective breathing pattern. ‘dyspnea’, ‘shortness of breath’ were included by 100% of the expert group. In the case reports, ‘dyspnea’ and ‘tachypnea’ were reported as signs and symptoms. · For the sign and symptoms for impaired gas exchange, ‘hypoxia’ and ‘cyanosis’ had a high ratio in the expert group. In the case report, ‘hypercapnia’, ‘hypoxia’ and ‘inability to remove secretions’ were reported as signs and symptoms. In summary, the similarity of the etiologies and signs and symptoms of the three nursing diagnoses related to difficulty in respiratory function makes it difficult to distinguish among them But the clinical validity of three nursing diagnoses was established through this study, and at last one sign and symp-tom was defined for each diagnosis.

소음인(少陰人) 병증(病證) 분류체계와 표준증후 연구 (The Research on the Classification of Soeumin Symptomatology and the Standardized Symptom)

Objective This study is aimed to present the effective classification of Soeumin symptomatology and the standardized signs for classification which can be applied for KCD, ICD and the insurance codification system. 2. Methods 1) Differentiate Soeumin symptomatology based on exterior-interior patterns, favorable-unfavorable patterns, and mild-severe-dangerous-urgent patterns. 2) Investigate the standard signs and symptoms to claasify Soeumin symptomatology based on exterior-interior patterns, favorable-unfavorable patterns, and mild-severe-dangerous-urgent patterns. 3. Results and Conclusions 1) The diagnosis criteria for Soeumin exterior-interior disease is based upon signs & symptoms of cold/heat, condition of stool, state of digestive system(such as digestion and appetite)among others. 2) The diagnosis criteria for Soeumin favorable-unfavorable disease is generally based upon whether the vital force of the spleen is damaged or not. More specifically, for the exterior disease, whether or not sweating is present. For the interior disease, whether or not dry mouth, body ache(a main symptom of the exterior state), and anxiousness are present. 3) For the Soeumin Wool-gwang disease, the diagnosis criteria of mild-severe disease is whether or not chills is present and the degree of body fever. 4) For Soeumin Mang-yang disease, the diagnosis criteria of dangerous-urgent disease is whether or not chills is, the degree of sweating and urine condition. 5) For the Soeumin Greater-Yin disease, Abdominal-pain bowel irritability pattern and Epigastric discomfort pattern are early state signs, Jaundice pattern is mild-state sign, edema & Greater-Yang disease Yin-toxin pattern are terminal state signs. 6) For the Soeumin interior disease, Abdominal-pain bowel irritability pattern and Epigastric discomfort pattern are of the dangerous state pattern, Jang-gual and Exuberant-Yin-repelling-Yang pattern are of the urgent state patterns.

웨어러블 생체신호 모니터링을 위한 스마트텍스타일센서의 분류 및 고찰 (The Classification and Investigation of Smart Textile Sensors for Wearable Vital Signs Monitoring)

  • This review paper deals with materials, classification, and a current article investigation on smart textile sensors for wearable vital signs monitoring (WVSM). Smart textile sensors can lose electrical conductivity during vital signs monitoring when applying them to clothing. Because they should have to endure severe conditions (bending, folding, and distortion) when wearing. Imparting electrical conductivity for application is a critical consideration when manufacturing smart textile sensors. Smart textile sensors fabricate by utilizing electro-conductive materials such as metals, allotrope of carbon, and intrinsically conductive polymers (ICPs). It classifies as performance level, fabric structure, intrinsic/extrinsic modification, and sensing mechanism. The classification of smart textile sensors by sensing mechanism includes pressure/force sensors, strain sensors, electrodes, optical sensors, biosensors, and temperature/humidity sensors. In the previous study, pressure/force sensors perform well despite the small capacitance changes of 1-2 pF. Strain sensors work reliably at 1 ㏀/cm or lower. Electrodes require an electrical resistance of less than 10 Ω/cm. Optical sensors using plastic optical fibers (POF) coupled with light sources need light in-coupling efficiency values that are over 40%. Biosensors can quantify by wicking rate and/or colorimetry as the reactivity between the bioreceptor and transducer. Temperature/humidity sensors require actuating triggers that show the flap opening of shape memory polymer or with a color-changing time of thermochromic pigment lower than 17 seconds.
