Detection and Synthesis of Transition Parts of The Speech Signal

  • For the efficient coding and transmission, the speech signal can be classified into three distinctive classes: voiced, unvoiced, and transition classes. At low bit rate coding below 4 kbit/s, conventional sinusoidal transform coders synthesize speech of high quality for the purely voiced and unvoiced classes, whereas not for the transition class. The transition class including plosive sound and abrupt voiced-onset has the lack of periodicity, thus it is often classified and synthesized as the unvoiced class. In this paper, the efficient algorithm for the transition class detection is proposed, which demonstrates superior detection performance not only for clean speech but for noisy speech. For the detected transition frame, phase information is transmitted instead of magnitude information for speech synthesis. From the listening test, it was shown that the proposed algorithm produces better speech quality than the conventional one.

  • In this paper, we consider a multi-class queueing system in which different classes of customers have different arrival rates, service rates and class-transition probabilities. We use the fast simulation method to estimate the overflow probability and the expected number of customers of each class at the first time the total number of customers hits a high level. We also discuss the overflow probabilities and the expected number of customers at different loads, respectively.

The Gentan Probability, A Model for the Improvement of the Normal Wood Concept and for the Forest Planning

  • A Gentan probability q(j) is the probability that a newly planted forest will be felled at age-class j. A future change in growing stock and yield of the forests can be predicted by means of this probability. On the other hand a state of the forests is described in terms of an n-vector whose components are the areas of each age-class. This vector, called age-class vector, flows in a n-1 dimensional simplex by means of $n{\times}n$ matrices, whose components are the age-class transition probabilities derived from the Gentan probabilities. In the simplex there exists a fixed point, into which an arbitrary forest age vector sinks. Theoretically this point means a normal state of the forest. To each age-class-transition matrix there corresponds a single normal state; this means that there are infinitely many normal states of the forests.

  • This study proposes generalized models of joint latent class analysis (JLCA) for longitudinal data in two approaches, a JLCA with latent profile (JLCPA) and a JLCA with latent transition (JLTA). Our models reflect cross-sectional as well as longitudinal dependence among multiple latent classes and track multiple class-sequences over time. For the identifiability and meaningful inference, EM algorithm produces maximum-likelihood estimates under local independence assumptions. As an empirical analysis, we apply our models to track the joint patterns of adolescent depression and anxiety among US adolescents and show that both JLCPA and JLTA identify three adolescent emotional well-being subgroups. In addition, JLCPA classifies two representative profiles for these emotional well-being subgroups across time, and these profiles have different tendencies according to the parent-adolescent-relationship subgroups.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the traditional costume colors in ancient Korea. The results of this study can be summarized follows : The traditional costume colors in ancient Korea was affected on Chineses goverment official\`s costume colors, specially in Tongil Silla Dynasty. Goverment official\`s costume colors were purple(紫), red(赤), yeoolw(黃), blue(靑). The traditional Korean colors for clothes were devided in the white costume for low class and the colored costume of high class. The traditional Korean colors for colthes became fixed in the later Chosun dynasty, According to developing of dyeing technic, the prohibition of red costume for low class made for wear red undercloth. And on account of costume color in sumptuary law occured the transition of costume color. As transition of costume color, yellow(黃) changed in light in light yellow(松花色), purple(紫) did in dark green purple(茶割) Also it was found that the traditional Korean color for clothes was many kinds of soft, deep, natural colors out of red(紫)·yellow(黃)·white(白)·black(黑)·blue(靑).

Transition of Japanese Kimono Design (일본 기모노 의장(意匠)의 변천)

  • This study investigate the transition about Japanese national costume kimono. The prototype of the present kimono is a kosode. The origin of kosode dates back to the mid-Heian period, when this type of kimono served as the everyday wear of commoners and an undergarment for court nobles, both men and women. In the Muromachi period, particularly after the Onin war, the kosode began to be by people of all classes. In the Muromachi period, kosode consisted mainly of woven textiles. In the Momoyama period, kosode became very elaborate, employing such various techniques as tie-dyeing, embroidery, metallic leaf(surihaku) and free-hand painting. These were further combined resulting in such techniques as tsujigahana dyeing and nuihaku, which are now considered to epitomize Momoyama-period textile design. A category of kosode of the early Edo period, known as Keicho kosode, is fashioned mainly from black, white, or red figured satin(rinzu), or from figured satin segmented in these three colors. Books of kosode designs began to be published in the Kambun era, when the merchant class was becoming economically powerful, kosode began to reflect its taste. During its final stage of development in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, yuzen dyeing achieved wide acceptance. From the late 18th century toward the early 19th century, kosode worn by the merchant class underwent drastic changes, while those worn by the samurai class changed little. In the after the late 18th century, clear differences in design and decorative methods appeared between the kosode worn by rich merchants and those worn by middle and lower class merchants.

Design of Domestic Induction Cooker based on Optimal Operation Class-E Inverter with Parallel Load Network under Large-Signal Excitation

  • A design of a Class-E inverter with only one inductor and one capacitor is presented. It is operated at the optimal operation mode for domestic cooker. The design principle is based on the zero-voltage derivative switching (ZVDS) of the Class-E inverter with a parallel load network, which is a parallel resonant equivalent circuit. An induction load characterization is obtained from a large-signal excitation test bench, which is the key to an accurate design of the induction cooker system. Consequently, the proposed scheme provides a more systematic, simple, accurate, and feasible solution than the conventional quasi-resonant inverter analysis based on series load network methodology. The derivative of the switch voltage is zero at the turn-on transition, and its absolute value is relatively small at the turn-off transition. Switching losses and noise are reduced. The parameters of the ZVDS Class-E inverter for the domestic induction cooker must be selected properly, and details of the design of the components of this Class-E inverter need to be addressed. A 1,200 W prototype is designed and evaluated to verify the validation of the proposed topology.

An Analysis of the Family/Kinship Rites in Urban Area (도시지역의 가조/친족의례 실태 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate actual conditions of family/kin ritual transition and to find out relationships to socio-economic variables. For this purpose, 716 subjects of urban family were interviewed with questionnaires. The results of this study may be summarized as follows: 1. It was discovered the pervasive themes of family/kin ritual transition: westernization, commercialization, socialization, and cultural anomie. 2. In contemporary family/kin rites, traditional structure coexists with external westernized aspects under the influnce of industrialization and commercialization. The rites were continued to provide a place where participants reproduce the ideology of patriarchal family group, especially the strong parent-child ties and narrow kin relationships. 3. Respondents who support traditional ritual style are old, lower class, and Buddhist. 4. Respondents who support westernization and socialization of family/kin rites are young, higher class, and Christian. But family/kin rites are not affected by sex relatively.

  • A class of standard optimization techniques to estimate the stationary transition probabilities among states is discussed. With the use of aggregate time series data on employed labor in industrial sectors, the alternative restricted estimates including minimum absolute deviation, unweighted, weighted, generalized inverse, minimum chi-square and maximum likelihood are evaluated and compared. Analytic and numerical results are shown favorably with the viewpoint of the validity and predictive potentiality of model.
